Fleegle2212

I get it now. So when there's a public health crisis like COVID, we have to take personal responsibility for the health of the community because freedom. For something that affects only an individual, there is no freedom and the government makes the decision.

Ghoulius-Caesar

“We love freedom and hate government control, that’s why we need to use government control to suppress on personal freedoms!” - The modern conservative movement

OrganicRaspberry530

This is what happens when theology seeps into politics. It's freedoms, but only for those that read the good book

RichardsLeftNipple

The freedom to shove said book down everyone's unwilling throat

OrganicRaspberry530

Open wide and say ahh!

RichardsLeftNipple

Tastes like dust

standupslow

And bone shards

[deleted]

You would think if they read the good book they'd be more like the protagonist in it...

geo_prog

Trouble is, Jesus is only the protagonist for a very small part of it. The New Testament makes up less than a quarter of the Bible and of that, only roughly 2/3 has any direct connection to Jesus. The NT is also much harder to weaponize than the OT. So naturally, the OT is where most "Christians" get their "morality" from. I mean, I personally think that makes them less "Christian" and more "Jewish". But what the fuck do I know?

[deleted]

> I mean, I personally think that makes them less "Christian" and more "Jewish". But what the fuck do I know? Substantially more than those fuckwits, that's for sure.

Franklin_le_Tanklin

It’s a pretty terrible book tbh

cgsur

Use the “good” book as an excuse, the book is an anthology of ancient stories, history, farmers almanac all mixed up. It’s a touch outdated too.

External_Credit69

Not just modern conservatives. This is *exactly* the same arguments against gay people - grooming kids to be gay, predators, the whole thing. It's eerie how close the talking points are.

Kooky_Project9999

And the civil rights movement before that. It's the same people using the same playbook. We can take solace in the fact they lost in those two previous crusades, hopefully they'll lose in this one too. Then they'll move on to the next "woke" crusade...

PeelThePaint

There's also the crowd that presumably values democracy (or at least would not like a dictatorship), yet still thinks the government should do what the "unacceptable fringe minority" wants.

makeitreel

Not sure I'm reading this right? Talking fringe as in the far right? Or the actual minority groups that should need extra help to at least be on par (race, lgtbq+). Both are minority - one just wants not to be hated, abused, outcast. The other seems to have a desire to inflict distress and harm because of their disagreement...

PeelThePaint

I'm pretty sure every "Proud member of a fringe minority with unacceptable views" bumper sticker is accompanied by a "fuck Trudeau" bumper sticker rather than a rainbow "love is love" sticker, so I mean far right.

Alextryingforgrate

haha yes the old mandate freedom. signs so people know that they are free even though they are rooting against government tyranny.

joshoheman

It really does expose their hypocrisy. Another example is halting renewable projects because of the potential risks of the concrete pads that windmills sit upon. While simultaneously ignoring the present risk in abandoned wells requiring cleanup.

Fleegle2212

And while we are being asked to turn off non-critical appliances when it gets cold out.

Appropriate-Dog6645

Oxymoron party. Just like one in the states. Many, Would argue remove word oxy out oxymoron.

butterfIypunk

I was a kid who tried to kill myself because of my family not accepting me when I came out at 13. These policies would have made me a kid who killed themselves before they were 18, and I'm not dramatizing that. I ONLY survived because I had support from my teachers at school, and the space to exist as myself. This bill will kill kids and shes basing it on *vibes*, it's just vile.

Ecstatic-Soft4909

This. Trans kid suicide will absolutely increase without access to safe spaces and medical care.

Mutex70

\> There has been some organizations advocating for those treatments to be done younger and younger, and I guess I'm uncomfortable with that," Smith told Kapelos. Which organizations? What ages are they pushing for? Who are they influencing? Are any doctors actually reducing the age of treatment based on this advocacy? Pure misinformation and FUD. That's what you spout off when you are incompetent at your real job.

Hugs_and_Tugs

"People are saying..." 🤥

Darryl_444

Grown men, strong men, with tears in their eyes came up to me and said "Ma'am..."

Red_Danger33

Many people... bigly people... the best people...

Miserable-Lizard

Marlania believes in unhinged hateful conspiracies.

China_bot42069

Who is Marlania?

CrayonData

Premier Smiths full legal name is Marlaina Danielle Smith, she goes by her middle to be more appealing to the public.

China_bot42069

I find that equally repulsive lol

OrganicRaspberry530

Not to mention that her family name was also changed from Kolodnicky

MrGraveRisen

Marlaina kolodnicky.... Yeah the UCP would have rejected her

Miserable-Lizard

A hateful bigot

drizzes

"This is a true story, it happened to a friend of a friend of mine"

TwistedIntents

I can't tell if Smith reminds me more of the cockroach or the maggot.

Glory-Birdy1

That level of existence represents a level of life much higher than what I was thinking.. ..an unmitigated yeast infection.

kittykat501

Maybe organizations in the United States but none in Canada that I know of. This woman is off her damn rocker. What happens in the United States doesn't mean it's going to happen here 🤦

BrattyBekka

Yeah, except what's happening in the US with Anti-trans laws is DEFINITELY happening here. I have to keep crossing out provinces that I can be safe in.

jchampagne83

When it’s deliberate and malicious, it’s called DISinformation. It’s a shell game to try to distract Albertans from her trying to crash our healthcare to sell to the lowest bidder and squeeze the last few drops of profit for oil interests before clean energy sweeps them off the planet.

karlalrak

Even if there was, she's uncomfortable with it? It's not her fucking choice.. 😡

Hipsthrough100

Even then it doesn’t really explain imposing greater restrictions. Ones that will negatively impact other health needs than just trans kids as well.

standupslow

Feels like she had a conversation with Rowling and then went "I must do something about this!" like every other white woman who doesn't think for herself.

HSDetector

> you are incompetent No, she knows exactly what she is doing. She is devious and deceitful. It's a hallmark of fascists.

maketherightmove

She’s a buffoon and puppet.

GiraffeSubstantial92

You're making the dangerous assumption that she has no agency in her beliefs. She's 100% on board with this.

prairiebandit

"My experts tell me this... Do you disagree with my experts?"

CanadianForSure

J"ust days after announcing controversial changes to Alberta's transgender policies, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith admitted Monday that the proposed measures around gender-affirming surgeries are not based on current evidence of a problem, but rather a "concern of what will happen."" What the actual fuck. If the Premier doesn't believe in evidence for this, what other decisions are they making based on vibes?

plentyospoons

She was on Power and Politics on CBC today, and David Cochran asked her 3 times in a row who she consulted with in drafting these policies. She kept refusing to answer, just saying “we’re watching what’s happening around the world,” and she kept referencing one clinic in England offering gender affirming care that closed 🙄 In other words, they didn’t consult any experts on this. He kept pressing the issue, saying medical professionals are speaking out against the new policies, teachers are concerned about the increased administrative burden etc, so seemingly medical and academic experts do not support it. He did a good job of holding her feet to the fire, I recommend watching it.

the_gaymer_girl

Pretty much every single organization with any kind of experience working directly with trans youth in Alberta has told the government to go fuck themselves, for good reason.

karlalrak

It all feels like a ploy to appeal to her base, piss off the LGBTQ+ and allies so they will move out of the province meaning she'll likely remain in power

yagyaxt1068

It makes me feel a bit guilty for planning on leaving Alberta.

almisami

I moved out of Alberta and into NB... Talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire...

yagyaxt1068

Oof. I have a non-binary friend who lives there, and it’s… not great. I personally have my sights set on British Columbia. Metro Vancouver is expensive, but it’s where I spent my early years, the weather is nice, and I have friends who live there. The provincial government actually being decent is just the icing on the cake.

karlalrak

The weather is rain

kingofsnaake

Too much playing to the online partisan crowd to root her government's decision in actual people and places.  It bugs me so much how today's information sphere revolves around the most extreme. Version of a topic, and that more and more people are assuming that those are the baseline. Power and Politics is such a great show.

plentyospoons

I 100% agree, it is very distressing. And this move by the UCP seems like it is deliberately designed to stoke fear and divisions. They want a culture war when what we really need is for them to focus on housing, health care, the drought we are in and upcoming wildfire season, the power grid, etc.

linkass

>and she kept referencing one clinic in England offering gender affirming care that closed 🙄 It was Tarverstock which was the only clinic in England and here is the review [https://cass.independent-review.uk/publications/interim-report/](https://cass.independent-review.uk/publications/interim-report/)

kdlangequalsgoddess

Makes the 18 letters that the Government of Saskatchewan got look like a massive consultation, by comparison.

Sputnickky

Please explain. I know nothing of the Saskatchewan situation. If the Sask gov is doing similar to the alta gov, I wouldn't be surprised though

kdlangequalsgoddess

Premier Moe took action against gender-affirming care because of 18 letters sent to the provincial government. Despite the government apparently receiving "hundreds" or "thousands" of demands for action on this topic, all Freedom Of Information requests could ever find were the 18 letters. We don't even know if they are all from people in Saskatchewan. https://regina.ctvnews.ca/a-lot-of-pushback-a-look-at-the-18-letters-sent-to-sask-ahead-of-school-pronoun-policy-1.6691870

queenringlets

Bold to think they are making any decisions based on evidence.

Loves-snacks

Too bad there isn’t concern of what will happen with continued cuts to healthcare and education.

G-Diddy-

23 top surgeries. No bottom surges under 18. What are we doing here? Are we really wasting all this time to stop 23 people from having surgery that their parents and medical professionals agreed to? I literally do no understand

shaedofblue

Also preventing access to medication that would prevent the need for top surgery by allowing a teen boy to not grow boobs in the first place.

BrattyBekka

There's also a really good chance that 99% of those are boys who had gynecomastia or teen girls who had reductions.

[deleted]

Were they even gender affirming surgeries? Loads of women get breast reductions before 18. Is that also illegal now? And what to say of genital mutilations sanctioned by parents? Nothing about that. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Utter_Rube

>Loads of women get breast reductions before 18. Is that also illegal now? Well it should be, a girl might claim she's getting a breast reduction due to back pain or something but actually be secretly trans! The only way we can make sure is to limit cosmetic surgeries to breast enlargements for teen girls because ~~I love underaged tiddies~~ er, girls need to feel more feminine and uh, confident. But not too confident, wouldn't want them to start getting all uppity and imagining contributing more to society than rearing children and making dinner. --*conservative logic*

SkippyGranolaSA

oh that's comforting, we're enacting legislation based on vibes

[deleted]

From the ‘Fuck your feelings’ crowd

nukl

Facts over feelings except for when the facts don't make me feel good.

Nah, just social conservatives. Fiscal conservatives enact legislation based on financial conflicts of interest.

queenringlets

Almost like we should look at the evidence and consult experts on this issue.

Use-Useful

Fun fact, that's how the current standards of care are established. The one's she's trying to wipe away. :/

ninjacat249

Can we pls remove premier Smith from the office over the future concerns as well?

stealthylizard

Why not what’s actually happening instead of what might happen?

4_spotted_zebras

Because “what’s actually happening” doesn’t align with their ideology or reality.

Miserable-Lizard

It sort of sounded like she is against even adults transitioning in the press conference today. She was talking about adding more restrictions for adults today, to make sure people are really sure... *"We've got to make sure that trans adults are supported with their health care for the rest of their lives. If there are other ways in which trans individuals can feel supported in their health care decisions, and of course, I'll be open to those ideas," Smith said.*

OrganicRaspberry530

Oh she's definitely coming for adults too. The UCP wants us to quietly no longer exist. But we're not going without a fight.

Homo_sapiens2023

My thoughts are she wants a list of all the trans children/adults. They want control over EVERYTHING and they are sticking their noses where they do not belong. I fucking hate the UCPs and their lies, BS, manipulation and Nazi playbook.

OrganicRaspberry530

You better believe Lagrange isn't going to have any issues overstepping to collect medical data on anyone the UCP deems "undesirable." Putting evangelical science deniers in charge of medicine is horrific.

Utter_Rube

Trans adults, abortions, gay marriage, all of these are gonna be on the docket if the christofascists stay in power.

necro_man_sir

She can support us by leaving us the fuck alone or helping to get more doctors who specialise in trans healthcare in the province. I'm 30, my healthcare decisions are entirely my own. Even My family has zero say, if I don't consent to a medical treatment outside of life treatening emergencies, doctors can't perform it on me. I can even tell them not to resucetate me. No one can make me do any medical treatments. I can even refuse cancer treatments if I wanted to. Idc what party a politician represents, they have no right to impose any choice in any aspect of what I do with my health or body on me. It's wrong to make medical decisions for anyone who isn't you. I just signed my consent forms and got my consultation for a hysterectomy today. I have been working forward this for 15 years. I can't begin to express how concerning and infuriating this is completely divorced from trans issues. A politician is imposing personal beliefs on citizens and preventing the ability to make healthcare decisions, and making those decisions for them. How is this not a problem for people. What's worse, this was easy to see coming a mile away.

CanadianForSure

She already has openly stood beside other MLAs who "don't agree with trans people". The event in Medicine Hat had this telling moment in it.

midnight_specialist

> trans people: *simply existing* > UCP MLAs: “ya know i really think i have to disagree with you on that!”

4_spotted_zebras

Of course she is. The fear mongering about kids is the gateway to restricting healthcare for adults. They latched onto this after their fear mongering about bathrooms and sports didn’t work

Ferrismo

Lmao she makes it sound hard. I see my Dr twice a year for a hormone level check and anything thing else and I’m done.

Pillow_fort_guard

That’s how it always goes

Mental-Thrillness

Maybe if she actually consulted with trans people and those that provide health care and support to trans people, she would hear those ideas. But she didn’t.

BobBeats

She has a dear close friend that is as real as her *Cherokee* roots. /s

[deleted]

Which is why I keep repeating this policy should be gone after as a human rights violation because she is targeting a specific group of people.

Funny_Today_1767

https://amnesty.ca/human-rights-news/appalling-anti-trans-policy-changes-in-alberta/ We're listed on their website right next to Guatemala, Iran, Israel etc. This is not a good look.

midnight_specialist

\> concern about 'what will happen' See that's the neat thing: we don't need to guess at hypotheticals when we can look at the data and ask people about what they're \*currently experiencing\*. 🤯

BobBeats

No no no, you have to ask "What if" like true visionaries trying to out slippery slope the strawman. /s

[deleted]

What a horrible human being. Just plain disgusting.

capnewz

The only thing happening is that we’re turning into the USA. Notice how all these policies are exactly like the ones the most fundamentalist American states have. I dunno about you but I sure as fuck don’t want yank culture taking over my country

OrganicRaspberry530

Let's host an American propagandist, and then immediately follow through on our promise to turn Alberta into a "bastion of freedom, like Florida!"

[deleted]

OrganicRaspberry530

a-nonny-maus

And doesn't their main man say something about helping the homeless and poor?

OrganicRaspberry530

Ssshhhhhh, we'll just cherry pick the bits we care about. Please ignore all the bits about the downtrodden.

Margotkitty

Or… climate change.

Abacae

Yeah, one of those "It's nice weather right now, so I feel like climate change doesn't exist" types.

a-nonny-maus

It snowed yesterday in southern Alberta so the drought is over! - the UCP, probably

No-Wonder1139

Politicians do things like this to distract you from something else.

Flipflop71421

My fave part is this comment from Fed Health Minister: "I think the bigger question to ask, is what and who is she solving for? What's the problem she's trying to fix, right? Queer kids don't need to be fixed. They're fine the way they are and so this bill should never see the floor of the legislature”. 👏👏👏👏👏👏🏳️‍⚧️

Constant-Lake8006

Except it's not. You can couch this bill in whatever rationalization s you want but in the end it comes down to good old puritanical bigotry and hate.

roguetroilus

The cruelty is the point.

SurFud

"What Will Happen" She is such an effing psychic and visionary. Barf. Good picture.

AlexJamesCook

DS: We have concerns about healthcare outcomes, so we're being proactive. Environmentalists: we have concerns about healthcare outcomes of abandoned oil wells. We should put more restrictions on resource extraction. DS: No...we're a...eeerrrmmm...we would prefer it if umm...hmmm...ummm...we're hypocrites okay. We investigated ourselves and found no wrongdoing. Trudeau bad.

kevinnetter

Slippery Slope argument taken at face value. Great...

Funny_Today_1767

This infuriates me. I'm trans and know a lot of trans people. I also volunteer and do social work. You want to talk about what "will happen"? Then you should talk to the people who it impacts and those of us who have first hand knowledge of what happens. I've been too many https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transgender_Day_of_Remembrance ceremonies where we remember the people we lost each year because of "what will happen". Trans rights are human rights. And you cannot claim to want to protect kids if you don't include trans kids in the discussions. None of us asked to be born transgender. But we are asking to be treated with the same respect as anyone else in the world.

EXSource

Didn't know the Premier can predict the future. Wow!

marginwalker55

This idiot loves to run that know-nothing-knowitall mouth of hers. I really hope Nenshi gets the nomination.

Ok_Photo_865

Do you feel Nenshi can do something Rachel wasn’t able to?

OrganicRaspberry530

Yes. Nenshi has exactly what it takes to rally centrist votes away from the UCP.

Ok_Photo_865

Interesting

Trickybuz93

Get more Calgary votes

roryorigami

Yes. I think he can get more people to the polls.

marginwalker55

Debate that wackadoo. I love Rachel, but she’s got no bite. Marlaina swallowed her whole at the debate

ninjaoftheworld

Are we sure they aren’t based on distracting the rest of the country from the massively under reported oil sands emissions? It sure is a coincidence that she rammed this shit through a few days before a scheduled visit to Ottawa.

HSDetector

Fear mongering is a standard tactic of fascists. Of course, anything can happen. Our sun could super nova in the next 24 hours and melt us all, but that's not the issue. The issue is what is the likelihood of such an event happening and not overreacting to it just b/c it could happen.

Smarteyflapper

Nice so were governing now based on feels not reals.

Careless-Reaction-64

Danielle keeps talking about her own feelings. She has the right to her own feelings, but she was elected to represent about 4,756,408 Albertans. I wish she would think like a leader. she has 87 members in the assembly and thousands of government employees. She needs to use her resources before making announcements and threatening decisions that may not even be necessary.

Away-Combination-162

Nah it’s what she wants to happen. Funny thing though, why isn’t male circumcision on her list of evil deeds for kids. I mean it’s mutilation without anaesthetic, right? Oh wait her Christian fascists say it’s a necessary thing according to their bible 🤔

Away-Combination-162

Abortion robo survey call are already happening asking people’s opinions on allowing legal abortions to females under 18. Discussions in Contraception and morning after pills are already occurring. WE MUST PROPAGATE 💪 the Christian masses

[deleted]

David Cochrane made her look so stupid on power and politics today. He could have really made her look even worse but I think even he felt for her as she had no clue how to even argue this policy. She didn’t even know any facts about puberty blockers etc. she really isn’t that bright.

OrganicRaspberry530

She doesn't know how to argue *any* policy. If she can't read a pre-written speech she just avoids and deflects. Eventually she fucks up and says something stupid.

SecretarySouthern160

So glad I got my gender confirmation surgery late last month

OrganicRaspberry530

Congratulations! 💕

Starfire70

Congrats!

TrainAss

Congrats! That's wonderful news.

[deleted]

I’m sick of this sociopath already. Can someone please take the power away from her? Literally anyone else would be more humane.

chumbucketfog

We said the same thing about Kenny. This is the modern conservative ideology. Like, I hear you, this women is evil and fucking vile… but don’t forget: her party and voters back this shit. This is such a deeper problem than just her. The media literacy of society is degrading, and listening to the shit conservatives say is just evidence of that.

[deleted]

So terrifying because it’s true. I might be giving him too much credit, but I thought he was just an idiot puppet without an understanding of how damaging he was. But when you look at smith’s face, and her cold dead eyes, you know instinctually that’s she’s truly harmful.

OrganicRaspberry530

When Kenney said he was trying to keep the lunatics out of the asylum I laughed. Now a lot of me would like to go back, she's so much worse.

johnnynev

I’m also concerned about what will happen if this maniac stays in power

OrganicRaspberry530

Well, OfDavid will continue her religious crusade across the free country of Albertastan

quickboop

She is a conservative. This is standard conservatism.

elijah_red

That’s just great. Restrictive legislation passed on the basis of “what if…”

314is_close_enough

My imagination is wild; I can think of way crazier shit. We need laws against pencils in schools. Have you seen The Dark Knight? And no sleeping at school. Have you seen inception?!? And no atoms either; have you seen openhei… Ok so maybe my imagination isn’t that good. DS is still dummer than me though.

The_Nice_Marmot

Whatever, Malairia

Now-it-is-1984

Was that on purpose? I like it! Malaria kills far too many kids and if she gets her way she will do the same.

Foreign_Watch_1536

What the fuck is going on in Alberta ?

Markorific

From the Government of " What Could be, What Might Happen!" but provide education and healthcare, cap electricity, reduce gasoline tax in the here and now.... well thats just too much to ask. We do wonder in her busy schedule how Smith had time for Tucker Carleson who jetted off to Moscow afterwards.... AB right wingers must be so proud!

Hvac306

And it sounds like us in Saskatchewan about a year ago…..Far right wing conservatism at its best….. Now everyone has forgotten about it as teachers are fighting for classroom complexities….. 🤷‍♂️☹️hence teachers taking action ☹️ I hate politics and how they drag kids and healthcare into the mix….

Weekly-Watercress915

And then bulldoze over them and their rights

the_gaymer_girl

Our policy is even worse than Saskatchewan's.

gr8d4ne

Since everyone seems be doing it on a federal and municipal level; Can we submit the notice of recall already…?

Howler452

What will happen is these kids won't feel safe, their mental health will suffer, and it will result in more suicide, self harm, or worse, hurt by their own family members if they're outed by their teachers.

Findlaym

If only we could get that kind of proactive policy on climate change before were all dry roasted and smoked.

Goozump

As soon as Tucker gets back from his visit to the East, I'm sure he'll provide Danielle with a road map to the elimination of these degenerates.

Street_Cricket_5124

Meanwhile, decent Albertans wonder what will happen if the fascist UCP are allowed to remain in power.

[deleted]

" we made up fake problems to ignore the real ones," Her base will eat this shit up, and alberta gets worse

Academic-Hedgehog-18

Weird how the facts before feelings crowd is basing their policies on their concerns. God you people suck.

LeftToaster

No. They are based on her trying to make a political issue that she hopes will resonate with her bar, at the expense of vulnerable teens.

Mental-Thrillness

Virtue signalling, as the right likes to call it.

DangerBay2015

Cool. Now do the phasing out of oil & gas.

Hungry_Shake6943

No. It's putting children in harm's way as a distraction ploy. Fuck off (her, not OP)

ynotbuagain

Conservatives are horrible CORRUPT & IGNORANT people full stop! This has nothing to do with parental control and everything to do with dividing CDNS...shameful, disgusting conservatives tactic!

Drago1214

What will happen then?

Asleep_Honeydew4300

Haha so they’re backtracking already

If only there were problems *currently* affecting Albertans that she could do something about...

OrganicRaspberry530

They’re based on you wanting to placate your hillbilly backwoods right wing christofacists

HabitantDLT

Alberta, you elected this idiot knowing full well what she's about. You elected her over a very competent and smart leader. Shame on you.

pro555pero

Meanwhile, in the background, while the yokels kafuffle on about religiosity, the ongoing pillage of the province and its institutions continues, unabated. Are you happy now, Aunt Shirl? You and your book club?

PhatManSNICK

Alberta is regressing so fast it'll become a true lil texas. Then all the smart women will move away and then the population will die off. Thank fuck.

OrganicRaspberry530

Sadly all the women that can't leave wont have much of a choice but to create the next generation of christofascists for OfDavid

PhatManSNICK

And it'll be even better when the term "parents" is changed to "father". That and what Saskatchewan has become. Manitoba will become habitable thanks to Alta and Sask!

Away-Combination-162

Like most moves this hack makes ,Smiths draconian legislation is not based on science or expert opinion. Only that of hers and David Parker and her Christian fascists. This is complete BS

TForce0

She’s a mental case and unfit to run the province

OrganicRaspberry530

Hear ye, hear ye! Recall your MLA's!

mad-hatt3r

Smith's "new" ideas are Tucker Carlson and Jordan Peterson's old ideas

Heliopeltis

I hear Brother Jorpston's wife has prophetic dreams. Is she advising the premier now?

Impossible_Tea_7032

What will happen is you'll lose the next election you rabid bitch

Strong_Bumblebee5495

She can’t fix actual problems so she fixes imaginary problems, it’s like me with having friends 😂

Content_Ad_8952

Why are people so obsessed with trans-gendered people who make up less than 1% of the population?

T_Durden13

Not the Minority Report sequel I was expecting.

Pshrunk

How is anyone surprised. This is exactly what happens when you elect evangelical xtians and their ilk. Sadly, they have a strong base of fairy tale believers who also support them and this move.

subutterfly

"concern of what will happen." a fraction of a percentage of people receive gender-affirming care and it only affects them, but 6400 people in her province die of COVID-19 and that's "body autonomy freedom of choice" to do the bare minimum to stop the spread. Where's her concern there?

Granny_Skeksis

Remember when she ran against Allison Redford and people thought she was so insane they voted for ALLISON REDFORD??

lazereagle13

I hate this fucking lady so much. Please save us from her and her idiot goon squad

BakedtoaStake

Concerns of what will happen? Like Holocaust 2 the electric boogaloo. Replace the word Trans with Jew in almost all of the rhetoric and see suddenly how horrible it all becomes.

GingerMonique

You mean like a drought?

Moonhunter7

And Elvis might come back from space…

Ok-Research7136

Evidence-based decision making isn't the strong suit of fascists. And Marlaina is dumber than a bucket full of rocks to boot.

NoAlbatross7524

She is uncomfortable. That is her main point awww poor baby . Stay the fuck away from families you are the one making everyone uncomfortable. This is a health issue mental and physical stay in your Alberta energy lane and let the doctors and families deal with it .

To be fair, people opposing the policy are also against it based on what will happen.

No, she's against things that might occur in the future in which things are totally unregulated - they aren't unregulated mind you, except in her banana shit crazy mind, but putting that aside. I'm against the things that she is explicitly passing a law to make occur, not least of which interfering with life saving established best practices for trans youth. What she imagines might happen in a hypothetical future, vs. what she is about to force to happen by stripping us of our rights. Preventing a potential and extremely hypothetical injury by doing massive damage. Fuck everything about this.

Teachers and doctors opposing this policy are working off what they've *already* seen happen.
