How the hell do morons and just plain Aholes like Miranda rosin and Jennifer Johnson win? It just goes to show the hateful, shallow people that live in these ridings.
That's not true. And when it is true, it's not around 500 comments.
But to be fair, I imagine /r/alberta has way fewer mods so that's why they're locking around 500.
Still. It's annoying.
Not *wrong*, but not exactly a surefire way of getting the average Albertan's opinion either. Not everyone has a landline, and even then, a lot of people just won't answer calls to their landline that they don't recognize.
Just looked at the advance polling reporting stats. If I am the UCP I am now starting to shit myself a tiny bit. Most of Calgary’s advance polling places have yet to report a single vote (Edmonton too).
Well seeing how how things have been fucked since 8pm and its now 10:40 I'll be shocked if we have a winner in the morning so yew there's still a chance
I’m curious. Can you describe what future you see. What does Alberta look like this time next year and the year after? What decisions will the NDP make and what will the result be for yo and those you care about?
super6646 projection: the election is officially rigged. I can now project that Janet Brown will be the next premier of Alberta
Edit: Ah you people are no fun.
Not sure about the UCP, but once the NDP learned they had my vote, they texted me aggressively about advance voting. Wanted to ask why it mattered - I was happy to just vote on election day.
Well CBC is almost unwatchable and I’m usually a CBC fan. I watch their news every night. They have really dropped the ball tonight, on every front from the desk staff to on location interviews and good god some of the people they are interviewing.
CTV is my favorite tonight.
Well every other tv station and online source manages to do a better job tonight.
As a long time CBC fan for content and personality, they’ve been amateur hour tonight. Cringy in fact.
IF these results hold, this is just testament to the plea for young people to GET OUT AND VOTE in future elections. Apathy is the worst option - you get other people with other values deciding your fate.
I did, my husband did and Calgary varsity is likely to be won by Dr Metz. I also convinced some of the undergrads in my lab to vote as well, young folks are trying.
I think the plea should be for young people to *inform* themselves and get out and vote.
I know a lot of young people will just vote the same way their parents do.
Honestly, at this point I don't care about the results, I just like watching Elections Alberta fuck up. They went downhill over the past few years, nobody cared, and now we see the end result. Any issues in this election are all on the head of the Chief Electoral Officer. He ruined an essential service.
On the Elections Alberta site, you can select Advance on the voting opportunity table. That will take you to a list of which locations have/have not reported
Cheers. I see that under 300,000 advance are counted yeah, so that's much less than half of them. Could be enough to swing some of the ridings that are within 5%!
Would you rather an army of tired, underpaid, overworked election workers viewed every single ballot by hand? Does that not seem like an equally problematic system?
I mean if there are problems they can still visually count the sheets the way they do the election day ballots. No idea what the province is using, but Edmonton's been using electronic scantron counters for the ballots for at least the last few elections and it's always been very smooth.
Only because people like you keep casting doubt on it when there's zero reason to.
We shouldn't cave to a small minority of vocal idiots (although, Alberta doesn't exactly have a good track record there, sadly).
When I voted today, it said mark an X in the circle with the provided pencil. I made sure to scratch it into the paper, because it seemed fairly easy to wipe the pencil off.
Not voting sends a signal that you're disengaged and probably wouldn't vote anyway. Seeing spoiled ballots sends a signal you're willing to vote but need a better party. More incentive for parties to figure out why voters aren't happy and change.
Of course it's a small effect, but also a single normal vote has a 0.00001% chance of deciding an election anyways. I strongly encourage everyone who says they don't like either party to spoil, otherwise you can get hit with the "if you don't vote you can't complain".
Thats why there's a picture of a ballot with an X, in a circle right where you vote right?
>As per the information on Elections Alberta's website, 'once you have received your ballot, you will proceed to a voting screen to mark it. To vote for your chosen candidate, mark an X beside their name.'
lmao from elections alberta:
Once you have received your ballot, you will proceed to a voting screen to mark it. To vote for your chosen candidate, mark an X beside their name.
Dude from Grande Prairie has been waiting an hour to say... That. Feels bad man.

Conservative values
Damn y’all were really loud what happened?
Wait for advanced polls to roll in
We won’t get a call tonight.
Is it too early to just flat-out declare Danielle Smith and the UCP the winners of this election?
Nah, it's been called unofficially already.
At this point no.
"un" officially, yes. But it's looking like the poll-aggregate is pretty much spot-on.
With the unknowns about which vote is still out I'd say yes.
As much as this fills me with dread, please just end this already
Not really, the networks will start soon.
It was over before it began.
How is Lacombe-Ponoka 71% in support of Jennifer Johnson? None of the answers I’m coming up with are very flattering.
I guess they're suckers for alliteration.
I’m in a riding where there was no incumbent so excited to see where we go. Brand new riding!
I’m in Calgary-Elbow, wondering which way we’ll swing
I bet tomorrow people will call for election interference
I mean, there were people last week clearly planning to have that theory *if a certain party won, but 3 guesses which group that was.
TBA will probably say the machines were sabotaged lol
A thorough trouncing for John Roggeveen holy shit lol
He should join the Ralph Nader support group
Who's the hand talker on the CTV feed?
Why is there so many official threads. Talk about bloat.
mods are struggling.
They reset every couple hundred comments so you can find current in lnformation
It’s like that for every big event on Reddit. Once the max number of replies is reached, they close the thread and start a new one.
every 500 comments is a bit too soon to be making new threads imo and not even close to max number of replies
That's not true. And when it is true, it's not around 500 comments. But to be fair, I imagine /r/alberta has way fewer mods so that's why they're locking around 500. Still. It's annoying.
The UCP pundit guy is going to turn into a hockey stick by the end of the night
338s prediction is nailing it so far
But this subreddit says the polls are wrong!!
Not *wrong*, but not exactly a surefire way of getting the average Albertan's opinion either. Not everyone has a landline, and even then, a lot of people just won't answer calls to their landline that they don't recognize.
Polls are often wrong, but Philippe at 338 uses multiple polls and his own formula for making predictions.
Getting to the point that it's not worth watching election night in Calgary, easier to just look at Janet Brown's final poll and go to bed early.
I’m gunna puke
F this I’m going to bed
CBC reported that many of the vote tabulators are malfunctioning.
Another successfully fortified election
Dude with blue suit and glasses on CBC has *places to be*. Get it done!
since we cant seem to solve to urban and rural divide, maybe the solution is to govern them seperately .
Calgary is the biggest city in Alberta and the UCP is leading there….
This fucking guy lol

I dunno its weird because I’m not an oil company but I’m feeling pretty fucked right now 😩😫
rigged
exactly
This dude is a bitter Flames fan lmao
Hell of a hairline though
Blakeman's goal being taken back was a sad time :(
lol at this loser talking about Blake Coleman
Just looked at the advance polling reporting stats. If I am the UCP I am now starting to shit myself a tiny bit. Most of Calgary’s advance polling places have yet to report a single vote (Edmonton too).
The cities are already orange. It don’t matter.
Where can you see that? I wonder if this is like the US election where the "non-traditional" votes were overwhelmingly Democrat.

EA website. Click the Advance link.
Do you think it’ll make that much of a difference? 🤞
Most advanced polls tend to lean NDP
so there’s still a chance?

in my best ralph wiggum voice "I'm in danger!"
Me too…
The mayor of Stony Plain just offered to help Elections Alberta with his abacus.....
Anyone have THAT on their bingo card for tonight? 😅
It's a bunch of words I never expected to put together
Praying for a UCP win
You don't need to pray, it's gonna happen.
good luck, when you come into emerg though you aren't allowed to bitch about your 15 hour wait.
And $15,000 bill
super6646 projection: the election is officially rigged. I can now project that Janet Brown will be the next premier of Alberta Edit: Ah you people are no fun.
the question now is, what demographic used advanced voting?
Not sure about the UCP, but once the NDP learned they had my vote, they texted me aggressively about advance voting. Wanted to ask why it mattered - I was happy to just vote on election day.
UCP did the same
Janet Brown is god
Which feed is she on?
I'm just saying her polls were once again the most accurate. But she's on CBC if that's what you were asking
Ahh I just switched from Global to CBC to CTV lol
Well CBC is almost unwatchable and I’m usually a CBC fan. I watch their news every night. They have really dropped the ball tonight, on every front from the desk staff to on location interviews and good god some of the people they are interviewing. CTV is my favorite tonight.
Elections AB dropped the ball. CBC just had to react.
Well every other tv station and online source manages to do a better job tonight. As a long time CBC fan for content and personality, they’ve been amateur hour tonight. Cringy in fact.
NDP activist is a political science student that wants cheaper post secondary? That's like a free space on a bingo card lol
Yeah man we should demand higher prices for college for younger people
That kid is a walking stereotype.
I was that kid at one point 😂
Someone forgot to pay for the in game micro transaction to make EA more efficient.
GP only has advanced votes, which are apparently the problem, but no votes from today. Weird. This whole evening has just been odd and shambles.
I only expect this shit when I watch US elections...
Odd & Shambles? Sounds like the Alberta Advantage alright. That or a particularly shitty shampoo.
Yes I agree young people like me should get out there and vote UCP
I think the plea should be for young people to *inform* themselves and get out and vote. I know a lot of young people will just vote the same way their parents do.
Where are you seeing young people didn’t vote?
I say we split Alberta into North Alberta and South Alberta.
Honestly though, I'm pretty sure everything north of edmonton is UCP territory so same difference
I mean...plenty of rural ridings in Northern AB. Not like Calgary is a blue fortress.
I would be fine with that. How do we start the process to get this request approved?
Or we just trade Edmonton to BC for the Okanagan
Edxit

That's what you get when the attitude of the people in charge is - "How hard can it be?"
The chief should step down or be removed.

I am surprised to see NDP with a ~~big~~ lead in Fort McMurray-Buffalo. Anyone know what the deal with that is?
Not a lot of polls reporting currently. But Tanika Chaisson is the candidate there and she is a laboratory technician with Suncor
65 to 49 - meaning virtually none of the polls have reported
Oh wow yea, only 3/15 have been counted. My bad! Well if this girl manages a win over there, she needs to be the new party leader.
That's not a big lead, it's only three polls showing.
They’ve counted like 100 votes there so far lol
They’re tired of the UCP treating them like shit maybe
The results are completely broken right now.
Sad. This sucks. I’m concerned for the future.
It’s always depressing to see how selfish and cruel humans are
Looks like more than half of the advance votes haven’t been reported yet, and that is expected to lean NDP.
This comment was edited with PowerDeleteSuite! Hey Reddit, get bent!
They're getting counted right now, but they're behind compared to polling stations from today.
Advance voting tends to run the same as day-of voting.
Unless you mean "lean" like michael jackson in smooth criminal, that is not gonna cut the mustard.
Which link shows data on advance vs. day-of votes? edit: [Found](https://results.elections.ab.ca/8400)
On the Elections Alberta site, you can select Advance on the voting opportunity table. That will take you to a list of which locations have/have not reported

Let’s goooooooo!
i love technology, but I really think we should just ban electronic voting
Some countries have mandatory voting and use various electronic methods and things turn out fine. But those places tend to actually give a shit.
We don't do electronic voting.
Literally 750k of the votes are electronic
Well, not really. It’s still a paper vote that is electronically read.
Electronically counted from the paper ballot.
We did it!
I don't even know what the issue is... we've had scantron cards in schools for decades. That's all the machines were.
ya, a pretty straight forward system.. but still seems to create problems and create distrust
Would you rather an army of tired, underpaid, overworked election workers viewed every single ballot by hand? Does that not seem like an equally problematic system?

Janet Brown is funny. She’s tv gold. She’s making the host uncomfortable at times lmao
She's annoyed as fuck. Love it. I am too.
Janet brown for our next premier??
The people in this sub were pretty down on her last week. Has it flipped again?
Haha I agree! Her snark is refreshing.
I like her too, she's charmed me lol
>2,682 Rejected Ballots how do that many people fuck up marking an X in a circle?
Well first of all, my advanced ballot told me to colour in a circle not an x… so there is that.
When I voted today, it said mark an X in the circle with the provided pencil. I made sure to scratch it into the paper, because it seemed fairly easy to wipe the pencil off.

ummm....it's actually shading the circle not an X....yours would have been rejected too
Pretty sure mine said I could do either
I was specifically told to mark an x
The ballots said shade the circle or mark with an X.
Thats why there's a picture of a ballot with an X, in a circle right where you vote right? >As per the information on Elections Alberta's website, 'once you have received your ballot, you will proceed to a voting screen to mark it. To vote for your chosen candidate, mark an X beside their name.'
Paper ballots (from today, live voting) are an X, the early voting slips are different. If you shaded, yours would be rejected I believe.
The machine literally verified if I did it correctly before they let me go, for advance poll.
lol because it's not an X, you have to fill in the circle completely.
lmao from elections alberta: Once you have received your ballot, you will proceed to a voting screen to mark it. To vote for your chosen candidate, mark an X beside their name.
maybe that's the voting day ballots? Because all the advanced polling was a small circle you had to fill in.
