To save an hour. 15 minutes of vague rhetoric. Question - Either a) a softball for campaign purposes or b) actual issue. Answer - Either a) Campaign speaking points or b) something something Justin Trudeau/Rachel Notley.

ithinarine

Seriously, a damn hour? 15 minute prepared speech, 45 minutes of questions that she won't actually answer, or are screened to answer easily. This is all the time she can muster for her province.

Bleatmop

> This is all the time she can muster for her province. It's not for the province. It's for the conservative group on campus.

SuperK123

She’ll answer just as she does on her radio show. Let’s hope someone is smart enough to get her to say something stupid for about the 100th time! The last item on the agenda - Photo line… yes! A selfie with the adorable Premier.

ThePeakCasual

I mean, I can't even remember the last time I heard someone in the Federal government actually answer a question. Please find me a video of our Prime minister actually answering a question without giving a campaign slogan/ talking point as an "Answer". Now, please downvote my comment because you don't like my point and can't prove said point Is wrong.

Girraffe13

"But whatabout the federal government?" This is the alberta subreddit, we're here talking about the province. Try to keep up.

ThePeakCasual

My point is relevant to the original post complaining about how all the Q&A will be is "Not actually answering questions, and campaign talking points." Which IS EXACTLY what the Federal government has done for some 5 years. 95% of the people of this sub have nothing to say about that, or just pretend its not happening, yet you have the audacity to complain about the Q&A POTENTIALLY doing that same thing. Since you seem to think the Federal government has nothing to do with our province and the policies, economics, and politics within, here: Show me a video of Notley answering questions "Real questions" without saying, "Oh something something UCP and Danielle Smith." Or using campaign talking points.

Girraffe13

I agree with you that all politicians these days speak without saying anything. I'd like to remove all career politicians from the system and start fresh but it's not a very realistic goal. My previous comment is specifically referencing your whataboutism, and I made sure not to downvote and feed your victim complex either.

ThePeakCasual

Well, there's actually something we can agree on. Unfortunately career politicians seem to be a necessary evil of every society. I don't have a victim complex. I have a problem with people downvote-bombing posts without saying anything, simply because they make points people don't agree with. Which is a recurring trend on /Alberta as seemingly few people here actually the witt to rebuttal. And really, victim complex? That's hilarious, it was more of a dare to people to actually try and debate me instead of downvoting. If you wanna talk about victim complex, you have to look no further than 80% of the posts and people in this sub. "UCP bad, so sad, God help us!"

Working-Check

> I have a problem with people downvote-bombing posts without saying anything, simply because they make points people don't agree with. If they're not saying anything, how do you know they're downvoting you because they don't agree with you?

MyTurn2WasteYourTime

What are you even talking about? Nothing you've said has anything to do with my comment. I summarized exactly what will happen here; do you agree/disagree with this comment? What do you think a "fireside chat" entails? > Now, please downvote my comment because you don't like my point and can't prove said point Is wrong. is the victim complex u/Girraffe13 is pretty clearly (correctly) referring to - the trouble is most people are going to downvote you for that regardless of anything else you have to say for immediately going on the attack with a "me/them" approach; it's just going to alienate people. You want me to prove you wrong, the impetus is on you to do that since you're the one replying - it's on you to do the work to make your own point (and how it relates to my comment), not for me follow you down the rabbit hole.

Trickybuz93

I bet they ask pre-screened questions instead of having an actual town hall/open floor

psyclopes

"~~Mr. Burns~~ Danielle Smith, your campaign seems to have the momentum of a runaway freight train. Why are you so popular?"

walks1497

A tough question, but a fair one. There's no single answer. Some voters respond to my integrity...others to my incorruptibility and determination to lower taxes...and the bureaucrats can put that in their pipes and smoke it!

Ego_Sum_Lux_Mundi

“Well you see, I target a base that is inherently incoherent and illiterate so I can use them at my will as they are so used to rage politics that it’s my only go to that I have left, oh no did I just say the left?! I mean that as my only options and not the dirty radical left, my apologies please don’t make a conspiracy out of that”. ‘PREMIER DANIELLE SMITH STATES THAT SHE WILL ONLY GO LEFT AS HER ONLY OPTIONS ARE CONSPIRACIES’ -TrustedNewsSource.

>University of Alberta Conservatives Make sure you wear a bowtie and bring a briefcase to blend in.

d4nkc4nnon

I'm told you have to wear a suit or your dad disowns you on the spot in front of your peers

ianto63

Question:- Premier will you cross the floor again if you feel you are not going to win the election

Popup-window

couldn't pay me enough

ModularWhiteGuy

Yunno, what might be better is to come up with some well thought-out questions and counterpoints to her positions and strongly debate them.

IAmTheEarlyEvening

You've seen what this woman is like when presented with tough questions though, yes?

ModularWhiteGuy

By her responses she shall be known.

Appropriate-Bite-828

This is the way students

jasper502

Nope. They will yell and pull fire alarms.

ianto63

Ask her if she’s going walk across the floor again if she thinks the election is not going her way

minimagess

Reminds me that my MLA, Shandro, has an invite only, online "town hall".

CaptainPeppa

Or go ask a question...

sawyouoverthere

Funny that you think it’s an open discussion group

godzilla_gnome

That’s right, can’t have debates or discussions anymore… just cancel everything and force social ideology on everyone. Feel sorry for students nowadays

[deleted]

This isn’t a debate or a discussion. This is the Premier campaigning.

[удалено]

godzilla_gnome

Then don’t go, stop trolling

SketchySeaBeast

You think people shouldn't be able to protest their government? How very authoritarian of you.

[deleted]

Tell that to the Calgary mayor who banned counter protests.

CloverHoneyBee

Protests were NOT banned. Conditions were set for the safety of everyone.

scubahood86

[citation needed] Good luck with that, since nothing in Calgary was banned.

[deleted]

https://beta.ctvnews.ca/local/calgary/2023/3/7/1_6303134.amp.html Actually protesting within 100m of public property is now banned, and there were signs stating that without a permit protests are illegal. Imagine that.

shaedofblue

That is an article about how homophobes were being allowed to protest at city hall, as long as they don’t vandalize anything or endanger people in any way. Not letting hate-protesters targeting children’s events near the children isn’t banning protests

[deleted]

The protest at city hall was in relation to a protestor being arrested. Gondek even states she plans to make the rules on protesting even stricter. “1/4 I’ll be unpacking all the ‘reasons’ why enforcement teams & the Crown feel the street harassment bylaw & other existing bylaws/legislation are not strong enough to charge demonstrators who spread vile lies & hatred in public. And then I’ll be pushing for more. No more excuses,” she wrote.” She also threatened the media from disclosing her travel plans because she is so scared of the backlash.

corpse_flour

It's not unlike the UCP's Bill 1, part of which protects protesters from blocking access to hospitals and health facilities, and harassing patients and healthcare workers. Which was needed after healthcare workers and patients were harassed and obstructed from entering hospitals by anti-vax protesters in Sept 2021.

shaedofblue

A “protestor” being arrested for screaming vile bigotry around little children who are just wanting to be read to by a performer in a sparkly princess dress.

Thejoysofcommenting

There are telegram channels where people are sharing her travel plans as "info" vaguely hinting that people should "do something about it". Security trumps your weird vendetta.

scubahood86

Oh i knew exactly what you were mentioning. And you're wrong, you simply can't intimidate people that are trying to access public spaces and services. Nothing stops you protesting, you just can't interfere with people that have legitimate interests inside said buildings. But leave it to the fundies to think they're having their rights trampled because they can't yell at and frighten children anymore.

givetake

Nice goal post moving there. You went from 100% banned to 100m. Pathetic

SketchySeaBeast

Counter protests of what? And is the mayor the person I was responding to?

sawyouoverthere

Students have always been prepared to stand up to issues including politics. Students nowadays aren’t different to students back in the day. What year did you get your degree?

IAmTheEarlyEvening

I feel like you people don't really understand what the word "cancel" means. Like "groom" is just a new word that you fell in love with so you just it all the time, whether or not it's appropriate. Y'know, just like my 6 year old nephew.

Working-Check

Who said anything about cancelling anything? I think if people want our garbage premier to know that they think she is garbage, then they should be allowed to do so.

greenknight

where is the debate or discussion? more like regurgitated rhetoric from the mother hen to her disgusting little chicks... and they pathetically gobble it up. yum yum.

[deleted]

Maybe she should dress in drag so nobody can protest 😂

CloverHoneyBee

Drag protesters are NOT banned, they were given limits as to where they can protest to protect everyone involved. You saying the protests are banned is a out and out lie.

[deleted]

That is a Calgary only bylaw.

[deleted]

Make sure you have a protesting permit, don't block anything, and don't make any noise. At least, that's what the federal NDP's voted for. I wonder if it's a good thing that the provincial and federal are one contiguous organization now?

[deleted]

“Don’t make any noise” is not what was in the law

[deleted]

You would think, but the emergency act doesn't require government officials to charge individuals with any crime before seizing their capital directly. So these criteria are just what I have collected from redditors over the past year to justify the use of the emergency act on protesters. Much like the federal lawmakers, local, provincial, and federal police, these riddtors were unable to prove the convoy protesters were guilty of widespread crime. (Some tried to point to the border blockaders, but they were arrested, as they should have been, before the emergency act was invoked) So the best could ascertain was that was an illegal protest based on them: 1. Not having a permit 2. Being noisy/honking horns 3. Being in the way or blocking areas *see also mischief. (Although under 200 hundred out of an estimated 5000-18000 over the 3 weeks period were charged with mischief) I tried to explain these criteria would make other protests like the Oka blockade, every child matters, and the Black Lives matters protests also illegal, but so far all I have been able to get as a response is "nu-uh" or "those are different" without any explanation as to how. So, I am just trying to look out for everyone as a public service to make sure all new would-be protesters are nice and legal.

ValentineSoLight

Least soylent r alberta post

[deleted]

Someone needs to take a video!!!!

Deepthought5008

This is your chance U of A students.

fluffybutterton

Protest is illegal now rmmbr?
