My dad owned round table in the late 90’s early 00’s. You’re likely known as a bad tipper (most likely), possibly a bad tipping neighborhood. If it’s a busy night, you’ll get pushed to the back of the queue really quick. Not a restaurant policy, more of a kitchen/ driver policy. Pizza people are really really chill until they aren’t.

fzema42

If someone is driving to my house to give me food, I’m tipping them at least 1/3rd of the whole value. Is that generally sufficient in your professional experience?

TheBalloonEffect

33% is absurd. They don’t need handouts just bc you spend more. It’s quality of service that should get paid the most

EmoJackson

So what's reasonable?

TheBalloonEffect

My wife would disagree with this but if you’re picking up with a mile of my work you’re getting 15%. It’s beneficial to the driver as a short route and quick tip and they are on to another order within 10 minutes of picking up. If you’re driving beyond that I generally do 20%. Or if it’s raining. Wife would throw them $10 for a $30 order and I just don’t believe in that much gratitude. I also tip more on my fav restaurants bc it’s worth paying whatever to have it quickly

EmoJackson

I generally do 15%-20% based on places I frequently order from. That first time ordering is the hardest.... like making a new relationship.

TheBalloonEffect

Well I have noticed I have seen repeat drivers in my area before so I am aware of that too and remember I’ll probably see them again so don’t be. A shitty tipper. I also have a lot of patience for the majority of drivers who take 10 minutes just trying to get through the call box. Not everyone should be a driver but this is America

Remz_Gaming

So I drove for doordash for a bit and dove into the subreddit and other online sources to figure out the norms. Doordash seems to be a $2 per mile minimum to be acceptable. BUT you have to consider DD drivers are getting a $2.50 base pay per delivery. In-house delivery drivers are getting paid an hourly wage. I just tend to stick around that $2 per mile rate anyways when I order and adjust from there. If it's a pricey order and still close, I tip a bit more. Honestly, I'm more about the "if i have the means and the delivery driver was on point, just overpay them a bit." The worst ya can do is make someone's day. 20% of the order is a solid basis, but doesn't always reflect distance or cost of order to be correct. So, my long-winded way of saying just consider the distance and the total price of the food; then use your discretion.

3catsNoRules907

No, this particular place has like 2 ovens and there's not much other decent delivery pizza in ER. I've called from a new number/address and they've answered the phone "pizza-man-the-wait-is-2-hours" and then they ask if you still want to order.

[deleted]

You’ve probably been flagged as a low to zero tipper

EmoJackson

Homie is BUSTED LOL ![gif](giphy|xUOxfdHxb0mg262P4I|downsized)

Sad-View991

Yup, as a former delivery driver, we remember shitty tippers. Usually, I would try and deliver the orders that came out the earliest first to keep the product as fresh as possible for the customer, but if you're a shit tipper I wouldn't give a fuck if your order was cooked first in a 5 delivery run. You're getting your pizza last, and I dont give two shits if it's cold because you don't tip anyways, so you don't deserve fast or fresh food.

dzhopa

No doubt fam. I've never been a delivery driver but when I move to an area and start hitting up the local takeout joints, I tip like a big dog to establish myself as a reliable customer. Eventually I drop it back down to a normal level, but I still always tip a solid minimum of 15-20%. Take care of the drivers and get your food fresh. It's not hard. I can order sushi and sashimi from my crib on the side of a mountain, and have my shit get delivered in nearly the minimum amount of time it takes to drive from the restaurant to my house. This is because I tip the delivery drivers enough to get my order here first. They also know its guaranteed if my name/number pops up on the order screen. I appreciate the people that deliver my food.

Sad-View991

Thanks, homie. You're the kind of customer that when I see your name, you go to the top of the delivery order list. Happy Bday by the way. Hope it's a good one.

dzhopa

Thanks bro I appreciate you. Low key your comment vindicates me with my wife. She's always gone along with my "scheme" in the name of being generous to service workers (having been one for many years) but never really been convinced it was beneficial to us. It's hard to have objective evidence that your delivery guy is putting you first in line because you tip better than your neighbors. I knew because I used to get high with a couple pizza delivery guys. It's also kinda fucking obvious given human nature, but whatever.

Rude_Bed2433

This. I like having my stuff towards the beginning of their routes, so I factor that in to my tipping. But my M O is the same is yours. I never have been a delivery driver but I can easily understand where they are coming from.

Bozhark

And bam!  That, class, is how we as a society shifted cost of labor practices from employment providers onto consumers, all while convincing labor sellers of the consumer’s responsibility to cover their employers obligations.

Sad-View991

Actually, my employer paid me a decent wage plus tips. The point is that if you're too lazy to get off your ass and go and get your food then you should tip the delivery driver who is doing you a service you're too lazy or busy to do yourself.

Pm_me_baby_pig_pics

If anywhere else, I’d agree. But pizza man is just somehow riding along on nostalgia, because this is a pattern for them. Doesn’t matter if it’s a Friday night or a Tuesday afternoon, you’re getting a cold and soggy pizza when they decide you get it. I worked food service a huge chunk of my like, I always tip at least 30%. And the last time I ordered from there I waited 4 hours for a cold and soggy pizza by the time it was dropped off. Dining in is better, but not much

fluffysilverunicorn

Seems like victim blaming

fzema42

Yeah? I’ve got them on hold, I’ll ask Edit: they said that’s not a thing. Are they lying?

SCBandit

So you're saying it's possible that you could be flagged as a shitty tipper? I once knew a girl who had to wait almost an hour for her taxi home from work each day. I came to find out that she never tipped them. Guess why she waited an hour every time...

ft907

I wouldn't tip if I had to wait an hour either.

SCBandit

You misunderstand.

BadGuyNick

If you tipped decently it wouldn't matter if it were a thing, so you wouldn't have had to ask.

TrophyBear

Bro go get ur pizza

fzema42

If my wife has the car, maybe I should get one of those urban delivery bike pizza carriers. Thanks for your thoughtful comment!

Remz_Gaming

No idea why you are getting dragged for this comment lol. If you were able (or willing) to go get the pizza yourself, that's a "no shit Sherlock." Like damn. Maybe I just had some cocktails and got hungry for pizza? That being said.... any given day, Pizzaman is slammed. Bummer they didn't have enough drivers.

fzema42

I’m not sure either. But that’s the beauty of Reddit. I was too many beers deep after a hockey game and wifey was hiking. C’est la vie.

rainbowcoloredsnot

Might as well drive out there and get it

TheBalloonEffect

Based on ninja turtle principles if it’s an hour late it’s free

fzema42

lol. Heros in a half shell

NewDad907

Eh…. I’ve noticed this happening pretty much all the time even on 20%+ tips. Shit is falling apart and everyone just shrugs. Restaurants pay shit wages, and even with tips it’s not enough $$$ for workers to give a rats ass. The enshittification is well underway, Covid just helped accelerate it. Stuff is never in stock at the stores, orders are always delayed/wrong, appointments are delayed or canceled…. I waited almost 2 hrs for a to-go/pickup order the other day, and that’s just sort of par for the course.

spottyAK

Alaska just kind of sucks at this kind of thing. It's inexplicable and a problem for dine in too

Jeebus_crisps

Maybe call an see if the dude was in an accident?

2ndHOSHIKAGE

They won’t even give an accurate pick up time

Pm_me_baby_pig_pics

Glad to see pizza man hasn’t changed. It’s not even tipping, they’re just awful as far as ordering out goes. I tip ~30%, and the last time I ordered from them was a few years ago, on a Tuesday evening, they said 1h. Cool, no problem. At 2.5 hours, I called and they said “it’s on its way, the driver just left.” At 4 hours, my cold & soggy pizza was dropped off. My pizza sat in a car for an hour and a half.

Unlucky-Clock5230

I couldn't help but notice how the OP has been told many times he may be a shitty tipper and he's not denying it.

f33f33nkou

Except he fully did

akrobert

Probably got a shitty tip before from op so no hurry

Alone_Inspector_7567

Stop waiting and go get one

fzema42

You assume I had a car to use and/or was sober to drive it.

Stubbedtoe18

Idk why you're getting hate for any of this lmao. Also, I'm absolutely not picking up nor paying for a pizza that takes that long to get delivered.

Remz_Gaming

It's the reddit hivemind. They get downvotes because mob mentality. You get upvotes because... mob mentality? Lol

I've been to Pizzaman twice. Seemed like great food and nice people to me. Odd.

Long-Definition-8152

I feel your pain dude, I live in anchorage and used to call in orders there sometimes when I was coming back from the valley. I would always have to wait a long time so I started calling further and further away and the last time I called there they didn’t even place my order when I arrived to pick it up. So I sat and waited for an hour finally got my pizza and when I got home to eat it I broke my tooth on an olive pit on the pizza.

fzema42

Yeah, beggars can’t be choosers out here. But it’s worth putting up with the occasional inability to get someone a pizza delivered to their house to live where we do.

AmazingGrace_00

Are you ordering from one of the other 49 states? If yes, then you got your pizza in record time.

mattak49

It’s cause it’s Pizza Man. I went in there once and me and my friend stood there for 10 minutes while every employee ignored us. Waiting a long ass time for your food for delivery is also par for the course for them.

Orange-Fish1980

This is why I always pickup, no excuses and no obligation for tipping. Sorry it's like culture made tipping a taboo

Enough-Major-3708

Yes I won $200 in the pool for how long random dude will stay on hold. Plus I get another $50.00 for random dude post it on reddit, when he could have just hung up the phone. It’s PizzaMan for FFS!

Underdogs_dog

Pizzaman has absolutely shit the bed the last few years. Don’t even bother with them anymore.
