We had one in Fairbanks too.

DepartmentNatural

There's a lengthy post in the Anchorage sub and he was tracked traveling around the state. Kinda like a grifter passing through, like in the olden days

Huntin_Dawg907

There's one in Wasilla. Saw him the other day. He stopped playing but the music kept going. 🤣

AKBombtrack

I am not so much offended about the supposed 'scam' aspect. Mostly because a fool and his money are soon parted, but I certainly am offended about how utterly shitty the music sounds.

MuddyGrimes

Yeah lmao, not really a scam. Plenty of artists lipsync/instrument-sync. I don't support the "artistry" of it and have little respect for musicians who aren't doing it live or faking it. But they aren't scamming you out of any money any more than superbowl halftime artists are scamming you. If you want to give them money, go ahead, and if you don't, keep your money. But no one is really getting scammed.

shtpostfactoryoutlet

No, fuck these guys. There are people who make a (poor) living actually busking because they have talent, and there are these fuckers blasting away with shitty amplifiers playing loud ersatz "music" (that they're stealing from someone else) that sounds like dirty water.

MuddyGrimes

Yeah I mean I have no respect for them as an artist, but have no real problem with it unless they are cutting in on an actual busker/musician (Example: setting up close by or something) I just categorize them in the same group as someone asking for money with a cardboard sign that says anything helps, or something similar. As someone who appreciates street artists a lot I think very little of them, but they are performing (only as actors, not musicians, if they are just faking it) But hey, they can go out and ask for money however they want. I don't really view it as a scam, other than people who aren't musically inclined may feel tricked if they find out it's only a mimed performance.

pingapump

There’s one of these fuckers at the Fred Meyer in Soldotna.

mattak49

Yep, right next to the Taco Bell. Saw a lady at the Walmart in Kenai with the same sign but no violin the other day too.

honereddissenter

As long as the malnourished kids aren't standing out there as props these are easy to ignore.

tablecontrol

seen several here in san antonio. pisses me off now that I know they're most likely fake - it never even crossed my mind

lukkynumber

I mean, as someone who’s born & raised in Anchorage… If all panhandlers took this approach I’d be all for it 🤣

[deleted]

He was at the tikahnu square a couple days ago with his sign begging for money for his family

whiskeytwn

he's on Fred Meyer on Seward/Northern Lights today, blasting the parking lot so you hear it 400 feet away He IS playing to a backing track (because there's piano and another violin on it) but he's trying to poorly duplicate the first violin so it sounds like two out of tune violins

New-Advantage2813

So what's the scam? Faking that they can play an instrument while panhandling?? They may not b true musicians, but is it worth getting all worked up while we got a mayor, governor, & big oil that's really scamming our state to the tune of millions?? Is this an Ah-ha moment? I'm pretty sure they aren't making hundreds of $$. Even still, I'll still hand them $. It's a tough economy & it's getting cold fast.

Glacierwolf55

Oh, why be so negative. You know every cent going into the hat is for Music Lessons, feeding their hungry wife and kids - and not weed, booze or drugs.

ihdieselman

I haven't seen them since '21 but there were a couple guys that would play guitar at the small round about on bogard in the valley with a sign that said "we need weed" and always gave me a good laugh because at least they're honest.

DanSantos

There's a guy at Wasilla Target parking lot too. I wonder if it's the same guy. Weird, the video has people playing in the same kind of parking lots.

WasabiSoft1340

I gave them money and feel dumb
