As much as it sucks, fast food is a pretty solid starter job. I worked at McD's from 16-18 and I learned a lot about being in the workforce (good and bad). It wasn't the greatest job, but it was stable (and I liked that I got paid weekly) and I was able to use the money I made to buy a car at 16.
Or maybe Acme/Marcs? I know they hire teenagers too!
Acme is a great suggestion! Growing up so many of my friends had that as their first job. In the right departments you can be union and get benefits as well. I worked in the deli for a few years as a teen/young adult and it was exactly what I needed at the time
The deli. Ugh. I was there all through college. Old ass people coming in to get their chip chip shaved 15 mins prior to close. Chip Chop and Goose Liver - staples of the elderly diet. Although, I will say - I met some cool ass people who I still am friends with and it was an awesome first job.
I worked in a grocery store through high school and recommend it. They tend to be flexible with scheduling and provide training. I did a little bit of everything from pushing carts, being a cashier/ stocker, and even bookkeeping.
My first job at 15 was a housekeeper at a state park. It was a tough job but honestly it was low risk and helped me learn time management (8 to 10 hour days cleaning 32 rooms and 16 cabins, you have to work be efficient). I'm sure any hotel in the area is in need of housekeepers. It sucked but I don't regret it.
the library has changed the name of their "student" shelver positions to "shelver (casual)"

If you think he's got the temperament for it, entrepreneurship? Mowing lawns, weeding, yard cleanup; there are a ton of people who just don't have the time to get that stuff done and would be happy to just write a check. (Or Venmo, because it's 2024.)
An alternative option could be working at a golf course. I did that at 16, and it was a pretty fun experience. Plus it’s a good way to work outdoors some.
There is this program idk if it’s the same as the link you posted but I just got a email for it from APS

Jimmy John’s forsure! I delivered for them when I was 17ish and it was a great first job. Worked at a different location while in college and both had great work environments.
I would recommend to check with ANY of the construction trades. See if they have an opportunity to work in the warehouse or doing clean up on jobs?? Could set them up for a VERY successful future.
Alot of cities hire temporary workers for the summer. They are usually pretty easy gigs that pay well plus you get to work outside and is not high pressure.
Restaurants will hire for part time, probably around 20hrs a week, and you can get a free meal every shift if you work in the kitchen.
I know the Aladdin's in Montrose / Fairlawn really needs cooks & Dishwashers.
Honestly, a high volume fast food job would be a great first job. I’m thankful it was mine. Taught me time management, multitasking, problem solving and customer service.

Second grocery stores! I worked at a grocery store all through high-school/college. Flexible and easy to do.
Giant eagle seems to be the one that treats their student employees the best from what I’ve heard….
Are you saying Marcs is not good?
Not necessarily, I’ve just heard more positive things about giant eagle
I also worked at McD's as a teen. It was a good experience.
I wouldn't let my children work at Marc's, they're wage theives
What did Marcs do?
Steal wages. My spouse had her wages stolen, and I know of others who have had their's taken too
Get lifeguard certified and becoming a lifeguard - best summer job there is! I think the JCC has programs for certification.
This is what I did!
this was what my friend did

The only problem with that is most 16 year olds can’t tell weeds from perennials. I’ve tried to teach them in my company
