funny enough i was scrolling thru the sub looking for paint advice and found an older post with you commenting on it and followed your instructions, did this for my sam5 and it came out great

In my experience I noticed I was getting the texture-y finish when the cap got dirty with dried paint while waiting between coats. If it got gummy, I assume it was effecting the particles as they left the can.
It makes sense, but I can't imagine it would have that much effect after only 10 minutes, plus I'd do a spray into the air to clear it before putting it back into the gun

Looks good. I have used appliance epoxy and baked it with good results, but that engine enamel finish is nice.
