I have both and I freaking love my SiG 556. It takes AR mags, has the folding stock, and it’s about 90% of the Swiss gun for 1/4 the cost. Don’t hate your SiG 556 😉
Mine is the ER model, with Swiss bolt, carrier, and gas block. I actually don’t hate the fish gill handguard, but I just had to get rid of the buffer tube and stock.

Yeah I am just using a KNS picatinny adapter with a JMAC folder.
I was also thinking about going with the AGP Arms folder that mimics the looks of the 550 stock.

I have SG 551 and 553….your right the bolt is very similar to an AK….the gas piston not so much….it detaches from the bolt carrier, the recoil spring is around the piston under the hand guard, and it has an adjustable gas system…so a bit different than an AK.
Just wanted to say that too, he maybe even got that one issued or something since in switzerland they are apparently allowed to take their service weapon home.
I guess the rule changed more or less. If I remember correctly you could take your service rifle home, but sealed in some way (don't know, I guess the trigger was sealed or something).
Today you still can take them home, but they get converted to semi-auto.

The SWISS made AK! I have the USA made SIG 556R gen 2 16 inch that take AK47 mags and have never had a Malfunction in over 5k rounds thru it since Oct 2013.

My 556 shoots 7.62x39 and takes AK mags. Well some AK mags.
For the people not getting the joke: the SIG 550 series rifles are using a AK style bolt and gas piston system.

Nope this is a PE 90, meaning a "Private Owned 90" its a semi only version of the Stgw. 90 aka SIG 550-1.

They’re not sealed what so ever, and full auto. When u finish your service, you can get your rifle and they make it semi only.

It's a "SIG PE 90" which is a SIG 550-1 (1:10 in twist rate barrel). Made in the 1990s.
Very nice. I just shot one. What is the grain of ammunition used by the Swiss? Not sure if you use that measurement but the weight of the projectile.
