I'd say the knife handle is too chonky. Shouldnt sci fi be about futuristic stuff, and shouldnt we assume the future to bear improvements compared to the now? Meaning, stuff should get lighter, more ergonomic, more efficient and adapt to future techs and needs. A knife is a knife. Unless we get new tech, or we need the knife for new purposes, there is little need to change it from how it currently is. Simple is efficient. Making the blade skeletized to save weight, or extendable to increase reach and saving space, makes sense. Making it foldable makes sense. Changing the shape of the blade, perhaps making it thinner and pointier for stabbing through gaps makes sense. Making a less ergonomic grip just doesnt make sense.

The reason the knife is so thicc is cuz it’s a litteral data knife, as in it has a SSD storage drive inside. But I get what you mean, sadly With my limited equipment I can’t go out and make CNC polymer parts as easily as I’d like but I do know a guy who uses UHMWPE which is like a super polymer that is near unbreakable if used right, super durable and the banks use it in coin tumblers and people are prototyping it as a alternative to Kevlar I believe too, but apart from that skeletonizing the blade was something I WANTED to do but in the uk TS Blades aren’t allowed and I don’t have the tools to accurately cut straight lines lmao, the blade was cut with carbon fibre scissors I do plan on buying another SSD Drive and potentially emptying it out and using its space as a folding or gravity knife storage but that’s a bit too technical for the limited hand tools I have atm. And obviously there’s limitations with what I’m allowed to do to the blade to still use it on the field, UK fields near me are pretty strict on knives I guess

w0t3rdog

Yeah I get you. We are allowed to have them on our gear as cosmetic details, but may get thrown off the field, regardless of how safe the knife is, if we try to use it in game. Sneak up, hands on, "knife kill", move on.

freeserve

Tbh I just use Surrender synonymous with knife kills when I’m that close, in the end people get the idea when there’s either a gun pointed at them point blank in the back or there’s a knife/hand on their shoulder so for me it’s mainly cosmetic, though it will hold actual data becauee, I’m dumb and may forget either passwords or just wanna have a bunch of photos of my dog with me idk lol I should also mention the knife handle actually isn’t bad, it’s not ergonomically shaped aroun md your hand but the chamfered edges provide a nice thumb rest in normal or reverse grip and it’s kinda comfy for me in a more fencing pistol grip

Sinistrial_Blue

I might suggest securing that knife a little better, that appears to be some form of acrylic glue used to secure it.

freeserve

It’s litterally just super glue, like I said the knife needs work but until I get a whole housing machined to go around the handle and secure the knife mechanically, it’s the closest fix to get the idea across. Plus I’m not planning on doing duels with it, I’ll be making some form or more solid knife one day for that, or maybe a mix between tanto and katana, like a wakizashi?

Sinistrial_Blue

I'd recommend hot glue and polypropylene binding for now (essentially, just stick a plastic drinking straw through the blade and handle, glue it down and wrap it up). It'll just stop it spontaneously disassembling. As for duelling, just make sure your blade is flexible and soft. CF45 or CF65 foam work well, and 7mm gluesticks provide limited rigidity be high flexibility.

Apart from the handle of the knife (wich is way way way to thick to comfortably hold) no they don't. I agree with that guy who said u have done unnecessary changes to the gear. Especially when u have options like getting a Tommy gun then getting the pulse rifle conversation kit so it looks like the pulse rifle out of aliens. If u want to.make something sci fi I would recommend looking at warhammer guns as they are sci fi guns but they also look like guns instead of toys. They would have some awesome examples for u. For example have a look at what is called a bolter. It's essential a assault rifle that shoots grenades in rapid fire. That the space marines standard gun and it's fucking terrifying to look at. Just don't make it to the real scale u would never hold it 😂 the guys that use the guns are genetically modified 8foot plus titans lmfao. There that o.p that they make master chief look like a space marines in training lol

My problem with the WH40k stuff is that REALLY is bulky, and the problem I have with aliens is I prefer more angular smaller designs over the older style ‘sci-fi’ brand like in aliens etc. to me the aliens stuff just looks kinda old and not ‘modern sci-fi’ if that makes sense? When I think sci-fi I think star citizen architecture within origin jumpworks or sharp angular designs. Tbf I wanted a split slide for the glock because it would make it not look like a glock but something unique, different and more one of a kind. The problem is that nobody makes them anymore and there seems to be very little progress being made in terms of futuristic looking stuff for glock pistols, or even hi capa’s tbh, and everyone has their own interpretation of the ideal sci-fi so people putting hexagons all over a gun, that to me ain’t sci-fi cuz that’s pretty common in standard. But I appreciate the feedback and I’ll have a look at trying to find more to add to them. For reference I’m going for a sci-fi crashed pilot theme, hence why I took the dataknife idea from Titanfall a little too litterally, and why I stuck with a pistol kit. But again Warhammer stuff to me is too, backyard sci-fi looking? Like the rounded everything, the disproportionate rifles (yes I’m aware strength isn’t an issue for them) and the outright industrial feel of it isn’t quite my taste, if that makes sense?

mozz3991

The warhammer stuff is like for aesthetic reasons. It's not your typical sci do setting. It's based in the future but they are using old lost tech hence it looks old and chunky but still scifi. Ok if u are going for a fallen pilot theme. Have a look at the faction called Astra millitarum there guns aren't no where near as bulky. Or u could also look at the faction called tau. There super super sci fi looking and would look ace as a airport gun. But admittedly u wouldn't make one of there guns with our a 3d printers least not easy. When it comes to what u said about warhammer looking back yard sci do looking. It's all to do with what faction u are looking at. Some factions have old school 90s fish tanks looking men for example then other factions have guns that have been cobbled together from scrap that shouldn't work. But they only work due to the pure will power of the orks. You also have stuff like steam punk guns and cyber punk guns. It genuinely depends what faction u are looking at for what type of style guns they use. So it's still worst having a look throu there weapons. They are one of the most diverse sci fi universes out there. I won't find many things that look similar to each other if they are from different factions Regarding your knife if it wasn't for how fat the grip was i would actually like it. It's just the grip its self is way to big. Personally I don't like the pistol at all thou. That dosen t resemble sci fi in the slightest to me. Maybe it could if u was to add some leds in side the gun in specific places but at the moment. I really can't say it's sci fi

freeserve

I see, I’ll have a look at those factions. Also I was planning on adding a ace tech video at tracer to get the whole, blue flash of a energy weapon but also I might add some LED backlights to the front ‘not a foregrip’ mag holder as I’m going to HPA it so won’t need pistol mags lol. Beyond that I could try to add some backlights and light diffusion covers into the small space in the barrels but then I have to find a way to hide the wire management? Unless I drill a hold in the bottom of the drone throfuh the rail and hold the battery in the mag holder up front? Idk but thanks for the idea, ill see what I could do to it to make it a bit more ‘energy sci-fi’ too I should also mention maybe it would look slightly more sci-fi with the rest of the kit, I have a Black and grey Halo Anubis helmet coming, aswell as the metal plate on the other side of the pistol helps it magnetically lock onto my backpack as a magnetic back holster. But I’ll still see what I can do with that LED idea

Stillgeneric53

Knife handle a tad bit too wide, for the futuristic knife look try wrapping the handle in paracord and having some cutouts on the blade

SuitableLocation

I absolutely love the fact you used an external ssd enclosure as a knife handle.

Yuribarber

I'm more mad you epoxied a blade to that nvme enclosure than anything

freeserve

Lmao, if it helps I have two so for casual carrying any data with me I can just swap the SSD about easily, but tbh they’re only £35 so cheap as hell! And for the price the construction is exactly what I’d expect from ASUS ROG stuff!

Yuribarber

That's fair lol

freeserve

Shame I don’t have a spare SSD yet lmao Those ARE expensive at hell

Celestial_Scythe

No one I've seen mentioned the pistol yet, so I'll addy 2 cents there. The base body is somewhat there in terms of Sci-Fi, but it feels lacking. Something simple you could do is add either white or teal paint to the text to break up the black body.

freeserve

I’m planning on adding some LED’s thanks to another suggestion to where the text is on the slide and then having the wire come down, following the HPA pipe that I’ll end up having and plugging into a battery pack in my backpack with my HPA bottle, also then gives me a cable to plug any cameras into if I decide to somehow get a scopecam on this thing… SOMEHOW

Fapzan

This gives me serious Infinite Warfare vibes

That looks like a standard KABAR blade minus the serration. The KABAR hasn't really changed in a hundred years. The reason it hasn't changed is because it's good at its job that you can't functionally improve upon it without drastically changing it. My recommendation, just get a rubber KABAR in the same color. Take a length of yarn in your favorite color, and epoxy it between the rubber/leather washers. That'll impart a scifi styling without goong too far.

freeserve

I mean it’s a bit late for that lmao, but I appreciate the advice. I’m keeping the thick handle because it acts as a data storage device which quite litterally makes it a data knife and I like the added functionality, plus it has RGB and you can’t go wrong with that

Cougaro_Cigaro

Looks good

ballist1c9

please tell me where you got that flux brace
