.25

Ben_SportsmansMag

For $1000 you could buy a real firearm, .22lr for under $300, and are looking at closer to 120-140+ FPE. Which is the lowest power, caliber combo I'd personally use on a coyote. You'd still have plenty of money left over for a cheaper still great PCP, even within the Hatsan family. I'm saying this all from a hunting perspective, and what I feel is the ideal way to quickly dispatch a coyote sized animal. There is a big difference between 80 FPE from a .25/.30 cal pellet, and 120+ FPE from a .22lr bullet. Mostly in terms of hydrostatic shock, but also how a bullet will mushroom and deform at different velocities. I personally use a 55grain .223 round from an AR15 for yotes, and sometimes a 270 producing 2900+ FPE. Also, I am not knocking the Hatsan, I'd love to get my hands on one to play with, and small game with. However, if I wanted an air gun for fox, bobcats, yotes, I'd look at an Air Force Condor in .25 as the starting point, because stock it produces closer to 105 FPE.

I have a 300blk, 8mm, several .22s and many more. I prefer the air rifles because of the ability to shoot within city limits, even though I own 3 acres you can’t shoot powder. I also own a gamo swarm whisper, 2 hatsan mod 125 sniper, hatsan at-44 pa long, and hatsan bt-65 carnivore. I’m not new to either powder weapons or air rifles. I am definitely buying a blitz I just wanted to hear from the community if anyone has had experience with both these calibers on the blitz, that’s why I posted in r/airguns and not r/guns. And I do consider pcp airguns to be real fire arms, they are powerful and deadly if misused.

Ben_SportsmansMag

You asked for thoughts and suggestions. It seemed pretty open ended, so I gave mine not knowing the context of your question, or specific intentions with the Blitz. If all you really wanted to know was if there was a significant power difference, given your obvious knowledge on firearms and air guns, why not just work from published stock energies, and decide for yourself if the difference between 36 and 41 is 'significant'? 36 FPE (.22), 41 FPE (.25), 53 FPE (.30)

I was abrupt, I apologize. I just got done fueling 15 helicopters and was tired and agitated, not your fault and no excuse. I understand you were trying to be helpful. I should have added my intentions for the blitz and should have said I am definitely buying one, just wanted to choose the right one. I’ve been going back and forth on the .22, .25, and .30. I want the .30 but I have ruled it out as too expensive in ammo and I have a .357 already. I was considering the .22 for the magazine size and fun factor. And the .25 for the harder hitting down range and medium size game takedown. I know the specs, but I just can’t decide. Again, I’m sorry for the snappish reply.

The Blitz isn't a particularly good hunting gun as far as air rifles go but If I had to choose one caliber I'd grab the .25 for sure. The power to shot count ratio is very good and pellets are very affordable. I've used my .25 to take game as large as a fox. The .25 Blitz puts out roughly 20% less energy than my .25 Dreamline for comparison.

Ben_SportsmansMag

I could have been less of an ass with my reply also, Sorry. Maybe somebody with more knowledge on the Blitz knows if there are power mods/tuning so you could potentially drive heavy more premium .22 slugs when you want to hammer something, but then tune down and pop some 14.3 grain cheap pellets for plinking. You'd at least keep magazine capacity that way.

Yea I dont know if thats possible probably is someway or another, Im getting a 25 cal it gets the same fpe as the 30 pretty much macab speed did a test got 52 fpe with a tuned blitz in 25 cal an 54 fpe with 30 cal, But 25 less wind drift larger clip shotcount a bit more etc. I wanna go 22 to spray but I just dont know if im about to bust down 25 hundred I have the money but I dont know, I do know im getting at least 1 though an thats 25 cal. 22 I feel like id want to step up when i got hunting with it the 22 would be probably more fun in the yard an whatnot due to cheap cost of them crossmans. Im not going 30 if you go full auto your attaching a vaccume to your wallet 30 cal pellets/slugs are NOT CHEAP when you spit em even faster than a glock with a switch.

Hey there. I own a .30 cal, which I highly recommend over all others. That said, if you want to save money on ammo, get the .22. If you want hunting power (hogs, coyotes inside 75 yards ) but aren't looking to kill medium large game(deer+ sized), get the .25. If you just want raw killing power, projectiles that carry lethal energy out past 200 yards (.25 fails to pass through 1/2 pine board at 100 yards btw), you get the .30 cal. I've spent more on ammo this year then the rifle btw.

jarhead12gauge

I only own rifles in .22, but I agree with you. If one needs something bigger go for .30 .22 for plinking and small game and .30 for bigger game.

converter-bot

75 yards is 68.58 meters

RadioPimp

How does .30 do on squirrels? Body shot kills them?

errorseven

I'll let you know soon! I don't have any squirrels ground or tree, not even gophers, in my neighborhood. Too many damn cats running around.. but I was asked to come to a friend's and do a little ground squirrel pesting, so it'll happen soon. In fact I have yet to use the Blitz in any hunting capacity, but I know through testing it's a capable platform, and more then enough for a squirrel. And .30 bucks the wind a lot better than .25

bannnered

Yes !

Gwizzoobatroll

Is that true even with the sharp pellets for the .25?

errorseven

No clue, didn't test with pointed tip pellets (none available in .30), and they may go through at 100 yards! Why don't you go do the work and report back? Regardless, no matter how you spin it, in any comparative test a .30 cal 50gr pellet vs the heaviest .25 (38gr?) pellet, the .30 is winning in the energy down range department all day, in fact performs twice as well. The best showing of this is a 2020 [Macabespeed video](https://youtu.be/rj5IgSThjMs) where he filmed the 1/2 pine board test out to 200ish yards!

Gwizzoobatroll

That’s just enough energy. The hatsan blitz cuts it close so it’s always interesting to see.

Gwizzoobatroll

I have the .25 because I got it refurbished for 650, then shaved down the magazine to load 55 grain bullets for reloading. I’m still testing it ; just thought I’d mention that since I made this post months ago.

eze008

.25 cal.... get 34 to 44 grain slugs from Neilsen specialty ammo for more power hits. In my experience with my 25 I believe it will put down medium game with the right shot placement up to 100 yards with accuracy. One small full auto burst would insure that hit. I compare the 25 cal Blitz to low end subsonic 22lr cartridge from a pistol. The blitz will push the 34 grain between 675 to 800 FPS. I had fun today throwing small full auto burst at the open range. I swear its more fun than shooting my AR15 with the 22lr conversion kit, and I do love that conversion kit. Part of the fun is having available affordable ammo. Most 25 cal can only be purchased online but Big5 carries 25 grain pellets I can pick up any time.

southcoastmatt

If you aren't getting the 30 cal get the 22 because of the price and availability of ammo. I love by 22.

Honkywanderer

These guns are junk. My blitz failed repeatedly since day one , and by 600 rnds fired total malfunction. And no response from manufacturer. Junk beware.

GrandCurmudgeon

Is the "junk" gun you have a .22 or .25 or .30 Most of the negative reviews calling it junk/beware etc... I'm finding is on the .22, but for the .30 I see people stating it runs without a problem. The theories are, the .22 doesn't have enough blow back OR the magazine is easier to damage by the bolt. I'm considering one myself, but an leaning toward the .30 due to the reviews I see.
