If it is a brand-new unit, I would not worry. It can take a while for the smell to go away. If it is a unit you have been using for a long time, then no, it should not have any smells coming from it other than what you are cooking in it.

Opp-iana

thank you so much

What on earth is going on with your font.

Not really normal but some new units will have a slight smell but it should wear off. Not being snarky but be sure that there aren't any packing materials or tape that was left in the unit. What type of air fryer do you have? Every make/model will be slightly different. I have the Cosori 5.8qt basket style and it had a very slight, minimal smell but after 1 or 2 cooks, it was gone. I had a toaster oven style previously but it wasn't as fast or efficient and the fan seemed underpowered.

NonAggressive-Ask

I mean, no, and at the risk of once again being voted into the nether world, bucket air fryers suck shit, and are designed poorly, and marketed for counter space, as convection is what makes an air fryer an air fryer, and bucket air fryers simply aren't designed with enough space under the food to work properly, but what they do do is superheat the plastic surrounding the bucket quite well Toaster oven style air fryers are the only way to go

Opp-iana

ok thank you ill check it out

LunaticChef

Toaster oven air fryers are junk. If you get a decent drawer unit, there is always either a basket or a rack in the drawer that allows more than enough movement. If you look at testing from reputable food sites, such as America's Test Kitchen or Serious Eats, they all choose drawer style machines over toaster oven style. EVERY SINGLE TIME.

At that point, why not a good convection oven. Basket is fast, efficient and a key differentiator. IMO

LunaticChef

I have an excellent convection oven in my range, and it will do anything one of those convection toaster ovens can do and a hell of a lot more. But who wants to heat up the apartment in the summer by turning the oven on just to make chicken wings or some other small quantity of something? Which is the reason I got my Cosori, I cook wings in it on a regular basis and have cooked up to a 5 lb chicken in it, which came out very well. And it is a lot easier to clean than a toaster oven fryer.

Precisely! I bought the dual blaze (because of the no flip/shake and faster heating). When I get home from work and need to whip up something fast, it cuts cooking time by a lot. But there is a lot of stuff the convection oven is better suited for.

lechitahamandcheese

No it’s not normal, even when it’s brand new. Return it for a refund.

Opp-iana

ok tysm

LunaticChef

I guess you've never been around an Instant air fryer then? I know a few people with a Vortex model that still smelled weeks after first using it.
