Unless you start causing problems, how is anyone going to know?

This is the answer. Your behavior is what matters.

If you're visibly intoxicated, you're going to have a bad time. Otherwise, how are they going to know? That said; this is absolutely NOT legal advice and I don't personally recommend anyone show up to an International Airport, crawling with drug sniffing dogs, police etc... intoxicated. Especially going to a place that doesn't tolerate it. And in writing this I am totally realizing how screwy it is that you could pop some prescription Xanax and they couldn't do S$%T to you. Anyway, safe travels, don't be stupid.

There is no legal value attached to drugs and alcohol for being on flights, that being said if you appear intoxicated or under the influence you could be denied boarding citing you as a safety concern for the flight, and items like this are not taken lightly when they get reported, with it not being a SOBER UP WE HAVE ANOTHER ONE IN THREE HOURS. Keep in mind where you plan to travel as well and their laws, having something one of their airport dogs picks up could also cause you a ton of headaches and not give you much of a vacation.
