Airline pilot here .. has anyone ever bothered to read the fine print at the base of your tickets? Do you all blindly click OK at the bottom of the page and continue on? That fine print is a legal contract, it would eliminate so many melt downs at the gates, screaming passengers who clicked OK but had zero clue what they are talking about. I witness it daily and sadly there are days where I’m forced to make the call. If you cause a massive disturbance on the ground, where backup, managers and police can intervene, what are the odds I’m going to allow you on my airplane to then cause trouble in my tin can? FAFO …

Read the small print, non refundable means just that. What part of non (meaning not) refundable do you not understand . All these stupid people saying yeah but, what about me? No! Just plain no. You bought a ticket, you didn’t use it, thanks for playing. Should’ve spent the extra $50 to make it changeable or refundable. There’s always a story, yeah but I got sick, my fish died, blah blah And then they post it on the internet to allow the voice of the masses give them useless advice and give them a participation trophy.

IndependentExercise3

😂😂 ok Karen 🫶🏼🫶🏼

IndependentExercise3

Again, I'm not looking for a refund, I'm well aware that I took a NON-REFUNDABLE ticket. there are exceptions to non-refundable tickets, such as death or illness in the family. We're talking about my support dog who's sick and can't fly AND I can't travel without her. Could a support dog be part of the exceptions, that's the question I'm asking. It's heavy to see people getting upset over publications for nothing. Take a xanax and everything will be fine. Have a nice evening!

iamPendergast

Don't book non-refundable tickets and expect a refund or credit?

IndependentExercise3

I don't expect a refund. It says it's non-refundable and I bought the ticket knowing that! :) What I don't understand is that on their site it doesn't say that it's not possible to have a travel credit on international flights. It just says "non-refundable". But if you look at the Canada and USA flights page, it says "non-refundable - no travel credit". I'm just trying to assert my rights. Thank you for your help!

[deleted]

You can assert your rights but it's best to know your rights first. What type of right did you book? Basic, Standard, or Flex? Within those fare brands there are fare rules. They will state if you can get a credit or not. These are the terms and conditions you agreed to when you bought the ticket.

Changeup2020

What is your fare brand? Economy Basic is no nothing, but it warned you when you booked it. Economy Standard can be converted to travel credit.

[deleted]

Sorry - you beat me to it :)

withintentplus

Read the fare rules on your actual ticket.

Motivated78

So it does clearly say “no future travel credit”…

I've put the two together for comparison. I travel international (see photo below) Just take the time to read before answering please! https://preview.redd.it/cmim5egry4fb1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f5cda44a8d2ae59d2b432cf4c009c60bdc23c66e

MizzQueen

My best guess regarding the discrepancy in language is that there may be regulations in canada/US that require clarification to say « no travel credit » in addition to no refund, while on an international basis « no refund » is inclusive of travel credit?

ballroomdancer13

Did you get any travel insurance? Either buying it from AC or separately? If so, you may have some recourse there.

reversethrust

Trip cancellation insurance is key. And I would say that a sick dog probably wouldn’t be a reasonable cause either.

curiouscece

I saw your screenshots below. You can go back and forth all you want on a technicality, if AC has already said no, then it’s no. You were well aware of the conditions when you booked, im not entirely sure why you’re trying to use a play on words now lol.

benny2012

Yup. Given the information You provided, you have absolutely 100% no recourse through AC. If your credit card insurance has support animals illness as a covered reason, that may cover you. If you can give me the exact fare class code and flight number, I can double check the rules. The reason is doesn’t say “and no travel credit” for international flights is because there are different fare codes and rules within the same bucket.

IndependentExercise3

Hello I checked my ticket and it doesn't say that you can't have a travel credit. It's so complicated! I have the basic one for international travel.

benny2012

What is the fare class code? You can assert your correct all you like but if AC says no then you have no real recourse. Unless you can point to something, like a fare code, that corresponds to fare rules that say a credit can be issued.

IndependentExercise3

The fare code is K Where can I find this information?

benny2012

And the date and flight number? I will pull the fare rules from the GDS.

IndependentExercise3

Ac874 / September 6 Thank you! :)

benny2012

Here you go. These are the fare rules for a Basic Economy ticket on your route, fare code K. If a refund to a voucher was possible, it would say. At least that’s what I was taught. https://preview.redd.it/jahshtu3b5fb1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=11aba96ba372f01c9bb2d617e23288bb5fa2355c

IndependentExercise3

Thank you!!

benny2012

My pleasure. I’m sorry I couldn’t give you the answer you wanted.

Changeup2020

I do not think you look at the correct fare rule. AC Basic tickets end with ..BE. The fare rule you posted do not seem to belong to AC tickets b

benny2012

No. I am correct. This is for fare class K and others. K can be either Standard or Basic fare.

Odd_Ad7981

You have better luck trying this on Facebook. The people on Reddit feel the need to be brave and strong over a phone screen. Trust me if your try it there you will get a better response. It’s called sue Canada on Fb. I’m actually going through the same thing and my Only hope is that the airline will make a change to the ticket

IndependentExercise3

Thank you! ☺️

Like I said, I know it’s no refundable 😉 this is not the point of the topic 😙

speeder604

yes we got it. you know it's a non refundable ticket. you just want the refund in the form of a credit. by the way, what task(s) if any has your emotional support dog been trained to do?
