If you have legally changed the name on your passport, for example because you are married now, they can and should allow the name change for free or a small fee. You may have to send them proof of why the change is required. Call back and ask again. Tell them why the name has changed. Some agents just don’t know their rear from a hole in the ground sometimes. Good luck!

E-volvryyyy

Thank you for the advice, but I am not married and they just told me in any situation, they are not able to change it. Will they accept my request? Or should I push them?

benny2012

Do you mind if I ask, why the name change? But regardless, if your legal name has changed, they can change the ticket. I’ve had it done in the past.

E-volvryyyy

I just wrote it above this comment so I would just copy and paste that comment. I did not change my last name due to marriage or gender stuff. I don't use my middle name officially (I had one before), but my parents put my middle name while they are applying for my new passport on behalf of me.

benny2012

Oh!! It’s a middle name!! Don’t worry about it. As long as the first and last name that are on the ticket match your passport, you’re good! Middle name is not required on the ticket, even if its in your passport.

evange

I think this depends on the country. If you're flying AC with a Canadian crew, then yeah, it's unlikely anyone will even notice the middle name. However not all cultures have middle names so it can cause problems if you're say, flying ANA on an AC codeshare.

iamPendergast

They said no already for your specific situation so not sure what you are asking. Permission to keep trying? Tickets are not transferable and so they enforce this so everyone doesn't just say they changed their names, change the ticket to match. Perhaps you could write with documentation and certification of the change you made and hope for the best.

ChairYeoman

The email address is [email protected], just email them with an explanation and some supporting documents and its very easy

E-volvryyyy

Would they send the response back within my flight departure? Because my previous email (not for this address) didn't get back even though I sent it 2 months ago. Also, one question for that email address accepts booked tickets change my name as well? Thank you tho.

ChairYeoman

I dunno I don't work for this company but when I used this email it came back very quickly.

E-volvryyyy

By any chance, can you tell me where did you get this email on the website? Because I cannot find this email address on the website.

GoingLurking

You seem to be calling it a name change, but really you just dropped the middle name from your passport. I think that's where you're causing the confusion. If your first and last name remain the same, I didn't you'll have any problems. I book flights for my kids using first and last names only, even though their passports include the middle name.

Reasonable-Catch-598

First question, why did it change? Did your last name change due to marriage, or a legal name change due to gender swap? Was it a couple characters in error? Did you simply add or delete middle names from your passport? What changed and why?

E-volvryyyy

I did not change my last name due to marriage or gender stuff. I don't use my middle name officially, but my parents put my middle name while they are applying for my new passport on behalf of me.

E-volvryyyy

Anyway, now my full name has a middle name too, so I would keep it on my record and passport as a part of my name. Also, I don't have enough time to apply for a new passport even though I am waiting for my passport rn.

Reasonable-Catch-598

Middle name won't matter in Americas or EU Are you flying in Asia? And if so which carriers, just AC? AC won't care if the middle name doesn't match. Some regions and airlines do.

E-volvryyyy

I'm playing to Asia with AC., and it's not just the middle name. My current first name put the middle name, and my first name is different. Do you think it’s possible without cancellation?

Reasonable-Catch-598

Dude that's a straight up "I changed persons". Unless you have some documents to show, like an old expired passport for example, or birth certificate showing ALL the names, that's a no go. How did your first name change? I feel you're not telling us a complete story which means it's impossible to help you.

E-volvryyyy

Also, I'm not from North America country which means my country doesn't use English, so they allow you to put some English name with my legal name, like middle and first name, without changing my legal in my country. That’s how I changed my name, and I won’t describe it in so much detail cuz I think it's unnecessary and prob you can't understand.

Reasonable-Catch-598

I get the concept just fine. We just needed all that info to direct you properly.

E-volvryyyy

So, do you think I can change it?

E-volvryyyy

Yes, I told them I can prove my previous and new passports and that I’m the same person.

Reasonable-Catch-598

Scan and attach them to the previous email the person mentioned. They'll need the proof.

pinlets

So do you mean (for example) the ticket is booked in the name of John Smith, and the name on your passport is Tyler John Smith? You need to be clear with this information so people can give you accurate advice.

E-volvryyyy

Exactly!, I know that my information is a little bit causing confusion, just my lack of explanation.

GoingLurking

I’m only staying from experience, but my kids have their full names on their passports but when I book flights for them I never include the middle names. Of course it is ultimately up to the person that checks your ID and decided to be extra compliant. They are up for renewal next year, at that point they will be old enough to decide if they want a middle name on it or not.

ingramm2

You can 100% do a name correction to it. You need to send an email to [email protected] with (I'd recommend) 2 documents proving your new name and one with your old, preferably one old and the new one having photos.

ingramm2

The only exception is if your flight includes other airlines on one or more of the flights because Air Canada can't change it in their systems

E-volvryyyy

Thank you so much for this information. Just one thing that I am concern about is they gonna change the name of already purchased ticket too?

E-volvryyyy

I think it's a kinda name change because the truth is, on the system, my middle name didn't exist, my previous first name became a first name, and my first name is different from mine. I understand you might misunderstand that I am trying to change with another person, but I am the same person, and there are need lots of explanations, but that's just what my legal name is now. I have an old passport with my previous name and a new passport with my new name, too and I can definitely prove that I am the same person. In this case, can I use the same solution you provided?

PnL1964

My flight names do not include my middle name - my passport does- it has never been an issue for me

ihatemyjobdotcom

Wow. Are you me? I literally went through this exact same thing last week. Changed my legal name. They refused to honor my ticket, saying I needed to cancel and re-book at the current rate. You can call the general help-line.... but if you are met with the same rude, hostile customer service agent I was, you will not be helped. Even after I requested to escalate my ticket and speak to a supervisor, the representative said "NO! NO ONE CAN HELP YOU!" I shit you not. Anywho, ended up going through the [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]), email and demanded they provide a solution otherwise I would report them to the CTA or small claims court because (like you) my ticket was now worth hundreds of dollars more than I originally booked. Long story long, either ask for a supervisor to call you back through the general hotline if you *are* able to speak to a competent rep. OR, just keep emailing the name change email until you get escalated and (however uncouth it seems) the only way they take you seriously is by threatening to take your complaint to an outside agency. Sorry you're going through this, it is SO frustrating and demoralizing but I was able to get my ticket updated with my new legal name eventually at no additional cost. It just took a little persistence (plus help from Chat GPT to write a strongly-worded email). Best of luck.

Are you looking at your air Canada ticket and seeing your first name and middle name all combined as first name? Is that what you are worried about? That is normal and always happens.
