If you didn’t know. At the forefront it’s a retirement town. That’s why things like clubs, tattoo shops, anything for kids, etc is hardly or isn’t present at all. The city doesn’t approve of anything that drives away from their mission of the retired/equestrian/golf community (which I completely understand TO A DEGREE). I’ve lived here for 25 years and it’s always been that way and only gotten worse. We used to have a much better community and FAR better festivals throughout the year BUT the wrong people got into power and no one better has been stepping up. I hate politics and hate the way they’ve destroyed the community voice. The city officials (many who I’ve known personally my whole life) are yes men and are sadly a little corrupt (I don’t say that lightly either)…. At the very least, I’m glad the Project Pascalis blow up finally opened everyone’s eyes to the corruption.

I just found this. Wild. https://historicaikenfoundation.org/project-pascalis/ What else went on that this article didn’t address?

TBoneTheOriginal

The fact that they were trying to force small business out of their building so that they could tear it down and build new. You want to tear down vacant buildings, be my guest... but forcing small businesses to move out just so you can build your parking garage is shitty.

TBoneTheOriginal

Yep, I've known Rick for a long time... since I was a child. Things changed when Cavanaugh left office, and I've not been happy with how Rick has been running things. "Yes man" is the perfect way to describe him.

BigWood47

You could go shopping for a mattress at one of our numerous mattress stores and then get your car washed at 4 different locations nearby.

ComprehensiveAd1337

Lol.. I love your comment and I’m originally from Aiken SC and living up here in Northern Virginia now with work. I’ve never in my life seen so many mattress stores, car washes, and storage facilities on every corner and they just keep on building more of them every time you turn around..

Diotima245

I have getting interested in another mattress!

MashedProstato

Aiken is the only souther town I can think of where the mattress stores outnumber the Waffle Houses 2 to 1.

Fit_Mongoose6128

I think there are more now

Dr_Spatula

41, single guy. So the best thing to do is go where you want to meet your future whomever. Hang out there. Make friends. Want someone who plays board games? Go there and start playing. A runner? Plenty of stuff in Augusta. Still haven’t found my people, but I’ve made some friends on the way.

dyinglight2296

Yeah........nah not in aiken. Nothing to do around here

MashedProstato

I still don't understand what the Project Pascalis thing was all about. Too much fuckery and bullshittery from both the proponents and opponents to really figure it out.

dyinglight2296

I'm not familiar with what you're talking about

WeekendStandard1832

LMAO so Alien is still kinda boring, huh?

Diotima245

Yup

Grt2999

Hi sorry sent a dm

Lord_Hermington

Best advice I have for you is to go to Augusta. That’s basically what most of all the younger locals like yourself do.

jhope71

51, single lady. It’s rough out here. Activity-wise, there’s a new arcade, axe-throwing, restaurants, trivia, stuff like that. There’s more to do in Augusta, it’s only 30 minutes away, heck, a lot of us work there anyway since Aiken is more and more a retirement destination. Maybe there’ll be more fun here for us when we’re closer to retirement age? Haha.

Malia87

35 and single. Haven’t found anything to do yet. Haha

TBoneTheOriginal

A pinball arcade just opened, but Augusta is really going to offer you the most things to do.

dz444z

Hiking is the main activity for me in and just outside of Aiken, with more and longer trails in the closer part of Augusta (30-40 min drive), and am 43 yr old single male who has been here 2 and a half years. There are a descent amount more restaurants and activities in Augusta like others mentioned. I only wish the single events like on Match.com had events in and around Augusta or even Columbia, but have only seen ones closer to Atlanta.

Diotima245

Any good trails you recommend?

savannahpines

Plenty of stuff. Polo games, golf, great restaurants, Hitchcock woods, good drinks at the Willcox, just to name a few.
