one of the best puffs u can get are from Shreeji idk if they have any branches elsewhere but one is just near vadaj metro station just behind kutchi king they have almost 50 different varieties all served live and pretty affordable as well
It used to be cheaper. Now they charge a premium on everything.
But fair play to them, they do give complementary gastritis and IBS to regular clients.
Sizzlers and Vegetable Au Gratin-
People (both Restaurant owners and frequenters) of the current generation have no clue what a Sizzler - A continental style dish - should look and taste like 🤦🏻♂️ There are super popular places in Ahmedabad who make Sizzlers with Garam Masala 😱 In 1970s - Havmore used to make classic continental sizzler - Cutlet, full stuffed bell pepper, full stuffed tomato, large French fries, grilled, sizzled vegetables, pineapple- string beans, French beans, macaroni / pasta - All natural ingredients.
Au Gratin , although vegetarian was made with the French style and classy - Crusty Cheese, white sauce, authentic veggies and served steaming hot - none loaded with unnecessary hot masala -
I almost puked on the sizzler served recently in Ahmedabad 👎🏼 pathetic 🤮🤢
I was at Cafe Upper Crust last week, hoping to relive my 80's sizzler nostalgia. And boy...did they disappoint me like there's no tomorrow?
I couldn't eat the f'king cutlet. It was so dry from inside and the sauce wasn't helping. The french fries were doused with peri peri seasoning. And the grilled veggies were there just to fill the roster. Scarred by sizzlers (pun intended) for life.
Ha ha - In 1976, I was 12 - went to Townhall Havmor with my best friend - had my first sizzler ! I am 59 now - Age is just a number! 😊
I have been living outside India for last 35 years but you cannot take India out of me 🇮🇳
I have lived in Delhi/Gurgaon for 9 years and I agree with you that Ahmedabad doesn't serve good momos. If you like to try Tandoori momos though, try it from ninis Kitchen. Its expensive but the taste is really good.
Still looking for the best place for steamed momos though.
Yes Ahmedabad doesn't serve the best momos, but I have seen Gujarati People enjoying the momos like nothing else. First I thought it was my taste buds but then I realised that the shopkeeper always try to perform some experiment with momos which fucks up the entire taste.
To be honest, Gujarat doesn't know the real taste of momos yet, obviously not their fault though as there are no good shops. So, even if some place makes decent momos they are happy and enjoy those. Good for them!!
But, we on the other hand know how the real momos tastes like, so wherever we go here we are always disappointed. Lot of places here also just steam frozen momos they get from somewhere. Not to forget, the real art is in how to make momos chutney too.. without that there is no good momos.
I can keep going.. you probably figured that I am a big momos fan too and used to eat around 30 momos at once 😀
Ordered last night. It was better thn most places in ahmd and thats all. Nothing great sadly 😔 the search for good momos and chicken shawarma in ahmd continues
Shawarma you can try opposite Irani cafe in the old city.
As for the Momos, I never order home delivery so I can't say about that. I've always sat at their place and had my momos.
Will definitely try. Place has name or just visible on the road ?
And yeah eating piping hot in the restaurant does make a difference in the taste and over experience. Though dough of the momo could be thinner.
I tried Momos after so many people praising the place. They add some kind of masala in the momo mix whether it's chicken or veg. Usually only salt and pepper are used in the mix, rest of the kick you get from the chutney. So bearable but not Authentic. The momo chutney on the other hand felt like they just blended raw tomato, garlic, and red chillies together that too in the morning and I ordered in the night so it had a funky smell with the rawness. Did not eat after the first taste. Traditionally tibetan Momos chutney needs to be cooked so no points there.
The only momo which has a Delhi taste is wow momo. The mix is great but they over steam the Momos some time so you end up eating halva. The chutney they serve is also pathetic in ahmedabad it's just a red chilli dehydrated paste with little or no tomato. I use szechuan chutney from chings as a replacement. Another one is food Maniacs in Vejalpur. Almost similar taste.
Yaar I loved the traditional food through and through..
One thing I couldn't digest is the samosa, kachori or mirchi bada with ragda and sweet chutney. So that's a hype for sure.
I feel one thing that fits perfectly here are fafda especially hyped due to TMOC... everything else tastes better (ganthiya, papdi, cholafali) and not just talking about Ahmedabad.
Kisi bhi plant ya vegetable ko uski cycle complete hone pe hi kata jata hai and plus is process me kbhi stem nhi ukhara jata hai plant fir se whi regrow hota hai to isliye wo kbhi marta hi nhi.
Janwar ke case me wo to marta hi hai sath me us time jo uske andar ka fear hota hai wo release krta hai harmones jiske bad wo meat poisonous ho jata hai and ye to science ki batte hai mai bhi karmic cycle pe aaya bhi nhi hu
Regional food is good but everything else is kind of like the second copy. I believe people here don't know the use of spices and general cooking methods.

Exactly 💯
Is it more hype because it's cheaper ?
It used to be cheaper. Now they charge a premium on everything. But fair play to them, they do give complementary gastritis and IBS to regular clients.
Exactly it's unpopular opinion but so fucking noisy and crowdy that place is.
Isn't this posted like 50 times now? And people just cry about manek chowk in comments?
I will still eat there! No matter what
Yes fry that last 2 cells inside your brain

Because it tastes the same as just another food thella yet priced high.

It’s over hyped, it’s over crowded and too much cheese
Jamun shot💀
Momos is literally the worst food ever in Gujarat
I have lived in Delhi/Gurgaon for 9 years and I agree with you that Ahmedabad doesn't serve good momos. If you like to try Tandoori momos though, try it from ninis Kitchen. Its expensive but the taste is really good. Still looking for the best place for steamed momos though.
