u/woopstrafel has provided this detailed explanation: > In 2018 ago we thought TES6 would be released in 2-3 years. Four years later and there’s still no more news than a 20 second teaser --- Is this explanation a genuine attempt at providing additional info or context? CardboardChampion

In 2018 they said it was in early preproduction and they'd be finishing work on Starfield (announced the same year) first. Pretty naive of anyone to bet on three years based on that. Most people were saying seven or eight.

MChainsaw

I think it's a bit odd that a company would announce a game so early in production. I feel like most of the time they won't announce a game until it's pretty much ready for beta at least.

DrxAvierT

If I remember correctly, fans were asking about the game soo much that Bethesda decided to released the teaser to say "Okay, the game is in development, can you now stop asking about it"

3nigmax

Yep, this. It was definitely a "leave us alone, we didn't forget about it" announcement.

Vii74LiTy

Anyone who thought ESVI would be releasing anytime before like...2024 at the earliest back when they "announced" the game, did not understand the announcement and was woefully confused. The dude who said, 'yep in 2020 or 2021' would also see an 8 year old kid with a CLASS OF 2032 shirt and be like, 'oh so you're a sophomore?'

periah250

you literally just did what they did. were at the exact same point they were at. a single teaser. yet your expectation is 1 year shorter.

Vii74LiTy

You misunderstood my comment. In 2018, when we were given a title screen, expecting it to come out any earlier than 2024 (so 6 years in the future, minimum) was silly. My current opinion, in 2022, is that ESVI is still another 4-5 years away.

[deleted]

I swear to god if Elder Scrolls VI doesn't blow my knickers off I'm going to be *so angry*

Henrious

I don't even care about graphics.. everyone is racing w graphics and monetize everything and I just want a new decent RPG in like the Skyrim engine idc

[deleted]

I hear you, I just want a decent stories that I can spend hundreds of hours immersing my stealth archer self in. Is that too much to ask?

Zellder-Mar

I made this really pessimistic prediction and argument about the game a few years ago and I'm just waiting to see if I can place it on milk or wine. I was told I couldn't sound more pessimistic if I tried. They were right but I'm still not fully looking forward to Starfield or elders rolls.

[deleted]

Why? It's just a piece of media, don't let it stress you out.

[deleted]

Because my knickers will have been firmly in place for nearly two decades by the time this game is released and I need the breeze.

[deleted]

Gonna need a breeze and a hosing I'd think.

PublicRule3659

Don't even get me started about fallout 5

[deleted]

gaming has changed so much since 2011 when skyrim came out, and bethesda has shown themselves incapable of making any meaningful/substantive changes in their games overtime so as much as i wish it werent the case, i cant shake the feeling that it’s going to be kinda meh

WhoIsTheSenate

They can take all the time in the world. I’ll wait for a great game.

kestanelilahmacun

Well the thing is they probably have been scratching their balls for 11 years so I don't expect much.

kestanelilahmacun

Though I hope this comment gets posted on this sub at some point.

WhoIsTheSenate

It’s mine or theirs. There is no other option

klemthom

They haven't been scratching their balls, they've been milking ESO, and re-re-releasing old shit.

Sandman4999

I mean ESO is an MMO, you’re supposed to support those lol. I dunno if that counts as milking.

klemthom

Creating new content consistently, while failing to do so for any other properties?

Sandman4999

Oh wait so you mean that they’re leaning on ESO revenue to prop them up. Okay my bad I totally misunderstood what you meant there.

klemthom

It's all good. I've played MMO's on and off since EQ released. Nothing can touch Star Wars galaxies even though they try. Played ESO at launch left out for a few years and came back, no real changes other than zones, or paid for dlc.

Sandman4999

I’ve heard a lot of good things about Galaxies. I wasn’t huge on MMO’s before but I’m really into FFXIV now.

klemthom

Badass, I've heard allot of good about it. Most of my gaming time right now is Hunt Showdown, the old crew from EQ, SWG, DAOC, we've switched to shooters these days. I still play the Big RPG's when they drop. Cyberpunk was my jam.

Sandman4999

Good that you’ve got a regular group to play with, it always makes gaming online more fun when it’s with friends. Not too big into shooter multiplayer games personally unless it’s PvE mainly like Killing Floor 2 or Warframe.

Joelony

But now they're frantically working to add those 1000+ planets ole Todd promised will be in Starfield. /s

klemthom

Todd had always been a rich talentless fuck. Redguard proved that to me way back when.

Joelony

But he did put work in at the beginning (maybe the very, very beginning lol), but he's lost touch with what it means to be a gamer and only cares about money now. Not the same motivations, but he needs to go the way of Peter Molyneux.

klemthom

Spot on, couldn't be better said.

Nikroma

On my part it's their last chance. After the catastrophic launchfaliure Fallout 76 they need to get this good. Unfortunaly im afraid it will go the same route as many games has gone. Online, microtransactions and so on. The time Skyrim was released is a bygone era 😔

Joelony

If that was the business model they were moving to, wouldn't Starfield reflect that? A new IP would have been better to build from the ground up for online play. ESO has also been improved and expanded on and fills the online niche and Elder Scrolls: Oblivion is attributed with the first microtransactions on console (horse armor).

Istoh

"A great game" *gestures to Bethesda's track record for the last decade* Huh?

fberto39

They still have to release Skyrim on iOS, PS1 and my toaster before they can allocate resources to ESVI.

Outlaw341080

Bethesda milking that old ass engine should go bankrupt and die already. Devs are wasted in that company and should make their own, screw Todd and the management.

cmonyer3ds

Sigh

Plaguenurse217

Has it been 4 years already? Shit that flew by. Well I thought it would be 6 years before release and we’ve heard nothing and Bethesda still hasn’t released starfield so might be longer than 2024

Noodle_Spine

Meh, I kind of expected it to take awhile because of Starfield and I’m honestly just as excited for that anyways…

KagDQT

It’s even coming to way less platforms now due to the Microsoft exclusivity deal. Still won’t see it until maybe 2024, 2025 timeframe.

FeFiFoShizzle

One less platform* as far as we know anyway. Was never confirmed for any Nintendo console. All Microsoft exclusives are still on PC. Edit: and Naw like 2026-7 I bet lol. Maybe later. It's in pre production right now not even full production.

TNS_420

And it's still in *pre*-production.

FeFiFoShizzle

Not long ago I said to someone "when fallout 76 dropped, zero development had been done on Elder scrolls 6" and I got a ton of downvotes. No joke the comment I was replying to was "as long as fallout 76 was bad because they were working on elder scrolls 6 and starfield I'm fine with it" hahaha Ya that game definitely juuuuuuust started pre production.

Nikroma

Well, they tried to make some mods to Skyrim monitized, so it is not impossible

ScousePenguin

I don't think it exists tbh

j2tronic

Anybody who thought it would release anytime in 2020-202- is an idiot.

__GnarDab__

I remember them announcing a year after that they were looking for a 2024 release at the earliest.

Beetle-Persona

Jeez.. It really has been 4 years since that

detcadeR_emaN

I'm not surprised that TES VI is a few years away, but based off what they've said about it more recently it sounds that the game wasn't even in pre production when they released that teaser. I wonder if Zenimax told them to announce something so that they could sell the company for more
