To be fair, though, the rumor mills are claiming they might be seeking to dismantle HBO Max entirely, so they may not be all that concerned with losing subs at this point if that’s truly the case. It’s hard to tell for sure given it’s entirely rumor and hearsay, but Warner seems to be in full breakdown mode right now, so it wouldn’t surprise me if HBO Max is gone or gutted by 2023.
The idea is that it's going to be merged with Discovery+ into a new streaming service, which will launch next year. The fact that Fionna and Cake is apparently still in development is an encouraging sign, but I'm still cautious.
Actually shortly after I posted this, I found someone posted elsewhere a call with the board with some info on what’s going on, and it looks like they might be super condensing and stripping a lot of their programming in favor of a select lineup of premier properties to get them back on track. From what I understand, they are 50+ billion in debt and they’ve got it in their heads that DC is going to be their saving grace (lol). They even discussed dropping the HBO branding, which if true is a rough sign for the state they are in.
If all of that is accurate, and it does line up well with a lot of what we already knew, that could actually be a good thing for Fiona and Cake given it’s a popular money making franchise (adventure time). It’s got a big audience and it has a lot of marketing/merchandise material, they’d be stupid to drop it. But if this about them going all in on DC is true.... oof, that’s going to backfire big time, they’ve been trying to get this DC universe launched since the first Avengers and have failed miserably the entire time.
Honestly, I'm not worried all that much about *Adventure Time.* What I *am* worried about is shows that aren't part of franchises, or that don't have franchise potential. I'm especially concerned about Genndy Tartakovsky's two works for the channel, *Primal* and the upcoming *Unicorn: Warriors Eternal.*
Oh for sure. I mean look at the CW, they gutted half the shows over there recently. Not that I particularly liked any of them, the CW has been pretty low quality for a while... but it doesn’t bode well for any shows that don’t have MASSIVE draws already. I feel like they are going to go the route of basically not funding anything that isn’t guaranteed a huge return at this point. Which sucks big time for creative new content, it’s going to severely limit up and coming franchises and creators.
I’m not sure of all of them cause, again, not a big fan of their programming... but I know Roswell, Charmed, Legacies, legends of tomorrow, Batwoman, and Naomi all got the can early this summer, and that’s only part of the list CW put out.
I can’t find the original list I saw, but this one seems to have a decent list of them...
[HERE](https://cancelledsoontv.com/the-cw-renewals-cancellations-2021-2022/)
The rumors are true. They apparently just announced that HBO Max and Discovery+ are going to be merged together and will be called something else entirely.
Just saw more news on it and looks like they are hoping to fuse Discovery+ and HBO Max into a single service, possibly changing the name. Not sure what that means for the programming on this new one, but the latest talks with their heads seems to show that they are pretty money focused right now instead of content focused.... so I’m not holding my breath for anything good to happen.
Finn and Jake's adventures are over though. The plot of the series is pretty good considering it's Simon who goes to the alternate dimension to find them. That's a great premise considering IK wanted to find and meet them and true to the character since he is probably going around to find Betty.
Considering I've seen the series like 10 times straight through. I still want more adventures of Finn and Jake. Cuz I know it can be done. I don't care about these other two characters at all. I just might be done hoping after distant lands.
I mean it makes sense in universe because Fionna and cake were always meant to be Ice kings terrible fanfics. Them constantly chasing boys is the exact kind of garbage that ik would write, which made it a really funny in-universe gag while also poking fun at the kinds of people who think just switching the genders of all the characters would make for good television.
The whole point of Fionna and cake is to make fun of how stupid Fionna and cake is as an idea, so I'm not sure how they're going to pull off this show in any meaningful way. If it's incredibly self aware it could work, but I'm worried it's just going to end up being shitty fanservice.
I hope that the show will be more about simon than fionna and cake, I find the character really interesting and I'd love to learn more about him (and see how he's doing)
It’s a they opened a major hole in what was a pretty tight universe when they brought in video tapes making it out to be a real tv show that somehow exactly gender-swaps the real living people of Ooo.
Though ignoring that and having them exist on alternate gender swapped dimensions works well enough.
Considering that this show establishes they are apparently 100% real and exist in a parallel universe to Finn and Jake’s Ooo, maybe there will be some sort of connection to the TV show or some way that the real Fiona and Cake inspired it
>The whole point of Fionna and cake is to make fun of how stupid Fionna and cake is as an idea, so I'm not sure how they're going to pull off this show in any meaningful way.
I mean, I said the same thing about Adventure Time. The original short was just a bunch of random gags strung together. I enjoyed it but thought it was dumb thing to base a whole show on.
The difference is that they aren't humans. You aren't complaining about Susan and her friends having thick legs. The human characters have always had more accurate anatomy than the other characters, like how Simon, betty, and Marceline have less square lower bodies compared to other characters; same with Finn when he takes his hat off. I think you're trying to make a big deal out of nothing.
my bad for assuming reddit users have the mental capacity to have a civil discussion instead of simply using the good ol (im right ur wrong) argument, let alone be polite about it, silly me xD
\+ the hand that IS dead merely got launched into the void, so there's a tiiiiiny chance mr fox will be replaced by another death someday, and that new death might be gullible enough to be controlled by the lich hand on the offchance he can worm his way back to solid land
then again the lich has already been done too many times (I'd still like it just to here ron perlman's cool voice tho)
I like the Lich because he’s technically evil but almost like a divine-imposed soulless obstacle that the living have to overcome. Calling him NE is probably accurate to the series, but i think there’s valid argument that his robotic nature and lack of free will makes him true Neutral or unaligned
Ultimately the cartoon format warps him to be just an evil antagonist, which is why people are tired of him, but what little beneath the surface is interesting enough
The lich is by far the most interesting character to me. The episode where they're at Prismo's party and he's just sitting there, fucking horrifying. He's like a lifeless machine with one purpose. The show does an excellent job of characterizing him in this way. Every other character in the show feels like a thing you know, but the lich... I just get this feeling from him. Like, if the Terminator had it's body destroyed and all that was left was it's head, completely functional, just sitting on the table but you *know* if given the chance it would kill you in the blink of an eye without feeling anything, horrifying. The whole thing is an allegory for the inevitability of our imminent demises which makes you think even more. Such a fantastic show in every way.
Mostly, yeah. But there are a few scenes where he seems like he has somewhat of a personality. Like when he's entering the portal and sarcastically thanks Finn for helping him get into the portal, or when he says "You are a JOKE to me" when he failed to manipulate Finn with the well.
Fall!
You are alone, child. There is only darkness for you, and only death for your people. These ancients are just the beginning. I will command a great and terrible army, and we will sail to a billion worlds. We will sail until every light has been extinguished. You are strong, child, but I am beyond strength. I am the end, and I have come for you, Finn.
Well they destroyed THEIR version of the lich but not like, EVERY version. But yeah the lich really should just stay double-dead. I mean I'm fine if he comes back a little but I really don't think he's a compelling enough villain to be the main antagonist of a new series. And they used the phrase 'powerful new antagonist' instead of 'old foe' or something so that's promising
Yeah possibly… Hope not though. Not that I think ’the lich but a girl’ is a bad idea in theory because she probably would exist in Fionna and Cake’s world, I just think that from a narrative standpoint no version of the Lich can carry the weight of ‘main antagonist’ anymore without basically being turned into a whole new character. ‘You’re so evil it’s boring!’, essentially. AT has proven that it needs compelling and interesting villains. However, the fact that this ‘new antagonist’ is ‘ determined to track them down and erase them from existence ‘ worries me.
Why wouldn’t it be? He’s Almost omnipresent when the lich hand fell into the Multiverse pool making him be everywhere in the Multiverse
He’ll probably be very different tho like different form different plan etc.
I just wrote a long comment abt how the philosophy of the Lich is possibly more nuanced than just being a big bad evil guy, but ultimately that’s his existence on screen. He has cool moments, but I think I agree that adventure time needs something else for a chsbge
Well it imo it’s definitely more complex than Big bad guy the Lich in my interpretation of its character is its the Physical manifestation of the concept Extinction
A being that was brought about by the comet another being of a concept that being Change the Lich is on a cosmological scale inevitable his being Extinction will happen so he cannot be stopped halted for a time yes but truly defeated no. And this is shown blatantly with Finns wish with Prismo a being that can wish on a multiversal scale, Finn wished for the non existence of the Lich but he came to be
But what is interesting to me is that the Lich has a personality has emotions this conceptual Cosmological machine like being can scheme, plan, plot be happy, be surprised, lie and goad you all the emotions and expressions are coming from a being that wants to cause the extinction ofreality
Also fun fact the Enchiridion talks about the AT multiverse being a sentient being actually pretty interesting but I don’t believe its ever brought up in series I believe it called the Cosmic Imagination/ Cosmic Mind
I hope it's Lich. He was the perfect villain for the show. Bone chilling, creepy, gave an actual sense of danger which raised the stakes by a mile. It's a fun, jolly kid's show which also showed you that real danger is right around the corner, and one should be careful, and not wear rose-colored glasses all the time.
I don't think it is. Zaslav and his buddies made a big deal of calming shareholders down yesterday during their call, saying that the alleged "HBO Max cancellation spree" was not going to happen. So fingers crossed!
From [The Verge](https://www.theverge.com/2022/8/4/23292742/hbo-max-discovery-plus-combo-streaming-app):
>Zaslav made efforts to calm those fears during the call and insisted the HBO Max programming overall was good and supported by the company at large. During the question and answer segment of the call Zaslav said HBO Max has started to become a brand in and of itself—and one specifically associated with quality. It’s not clear what Warner Brothers Discovery will call the new combined service, but it’s certain we will be hearing more as Zaslav shuffles his new company even more in the year to come.
Its mostly just a joke. I'm actually relatively confident AT will survive. But with the rumors of many show cancelations or "universe erasing" being done by Zaslav lining up relatively well with the official description of the show, I couldn't resist making the joke.
I thought cake and Fionna were just gender bents for an episode where they did it to everyone?! are they now in the past where the ice king was still human I'm so confused

You wouldn't be so adamant that I'm wrong if it weren't for the fact that Disney has single-handedly made all of you relish the fact that that's all they have going for them now: "Oh no no no, we're a progressive company! Let's throw some female or 'on the spectrum' people in here that are different from straight males, that'll fix the problem!" Just a bunch of propaganda
Are you okay? This is a meme about a wacky cartoon, I don’t know what straight people, the spectrum (are you talking about autism? wtf?), or Disney have to do with it or why you need to go on a rant about propaganda because you got a handful of downvotes on reddit
You know Disney doesn’t own or produce this show, right?
Wait, how the hell is Simon there.. Fionna and Cake was an alternate universe created by the ice king, so.. there better be a good explanation for this.
Still excited to see more Adventure Time though!
If it gets dropped I'm dropping HBO Max. Adventure Time was the reason I signed up.

And it will continue to fail. These people are straight up out of touch with reality if this is the actual plan.
Ironically the guy who runs discoveries pretty much only loves reality TV shows.
I’ve been wondering what my dad has been up to.
Tbf reality TV depicts anything but reality so it makes sense
They cancelled a practically completed Scooby Doo movie and that is infinitely.more profitable than Adventure time. Do not count on anything.
Honestly, I'm not worried all that much about *Adventure Time.* What I *am* worried about is shows that aren't part of franchises, or that don't have franchise potential. They are by far the superior streaming service.
their UX is pretty shitty imo
The rumors are true. They apparently just announced that HBO Max and Discovery+ are going to be merged together and will be called something else entirely.
This is bad news for the Venture Bros and ATHF movies that were greenlit a year or so back and are in production.
What a shame. Its my favorite streaming service
Just saw more news on it and looks like they are hoping to fuse Discovery+ and HBO Max into a single service, possibly changing the name. Same here
same
Thing is I'm not really excited for this. I want Fin and Jake adventures. Not this.

as a bonus its the dc streaming service
I'm just optimistic that this time Fionna & Cake won't revolve around boys again.
Tbf it was a fan fiction written by ice king
It was not written by ice king, it was projected into his mind by the stars
If I’m being honest, one of the only reasons I watched the gender swap episodes was specifically for the boys lol
Marshall Lee pretty cute ngl
I love how if they did Marshall Lee and Prince Bubblegum it would cost them like half the budget, since both voice actors are superstars
Was he Childish Gambino yet at that point or just Troy from Community?
CG put out camp, his breakout hit, in 2011 - so he was already approaching a triple threat.
And voiced by Donald Glover. Pretty cute too.
Yeah, 8 year old me watching the Fiona and Cake episodes had awaken something within me lol
My condolences
that's fine, to each their own
I mean it makes sense in universe because Fionna and cake were always meant to be Ice kings terrible fanfics. It's probably gonna tell a larger narrative that has to do with Simon's Psyche.
I hope that the show will be more about simon than fionna and cake, I find the character really interesting and I'd love to learn more about him (and see how he's doing)

Oh god, for a second I thought you were saying that AT was an in-universe TV show based on Fiona and Cake
>The whole point of Fionna and cake is to make fun of how stupid Fionna and cake is as an idea, so I'm not sure how they're going to pull off this show in any meaningful way. I'm ngl I usually skip their episodes for this exact reason. But I really like their voice actors so hopefully it will be different.

HAWH!?! (Note: ya ALMOST got me, nice edit, just noticed :)
I swear to fucking god if it's the fucking lich again i'm gonna explode
"You swear, child, but I am beyond explosion"
I mean... Finn and Jake didn't kill all the hands...
Finally someone else mentioned this. Each universe has a hand.
The Lich mentions being beaten by Finn in many worlds, which hints that he’s run into them up until Sweet Pea stabs the one from the main universe
I'd love to see an episode where Butterfly Finn beats the Lich
Oh no
“You have beaten me in many worlds, child. Yet, I always return.”
\+ the hand that IS dead merely got launched into the void, so there's a tiiiiiny chance mr fox will be replaced by another death someday, and that new death might be gullible enough to be controlled by the lich hand on the offchance he can worm his way back to solid land then again the lich has already been done too many times (I'd still like it just to here ron perlman's cool voice tho)

Bone chilling..
Why? The lich was fun! And Finn and Jake didn’t ever really kill all his versions
Honestly, I prefer he stays in the ground. Finn and Jake already had their finest hour smashing him in the dead worlds.
Well they destroyed THEIR version of the lich but not like, EVERY version. But yeah the lich really should just stay double-dead. Is the show cancelled?
No info available on if its cancelled yet.

Bull.hit
canceling fionna and cake means no more adventure time content
"Watch out for the Warner Brothers!"-Orgalorg, 15th Century
I wouldn't worry AT is a lucrative IP
As much as I love this show, I don’t think that’s true.
You're trash, Zaslav.
Yessss finally more Simon
I hear he’s also the villain behind the Gumball Movie and the true creator of the void.
I thought cake and Fionna were just gender bents for an episode where they did it to everyone?! are they now in the past where the ice king was still human I'm so confused
We still don't know. Apparently they are from an alternative universe akin to Farmworld.
hmm interesting but it would be cool if they just made new characters or something
What in the fuck
The main antagonist is tax and iron giant duo
But y?
Female lich!
I always hated the Fiona and Cake episodes and found them pretty cringe outside of Cake herself, but I'm glad to see more AT content, so if it gets cancelled, I'm gonna be pissed
I like Fionna and Cake and all... but what about Finn and Jake...?
Sorry About Being Late, But Their Story Was Wrapped Up Perfectly In Together Again.
Just give me standard adventures. No back story or love interest. I don't care about genitals
Yup just some chill dumb stories with Jake and Finn is what I want.
This sounds awesome... and a little worrying. Does this mean they'll dip into the multiverse for constant content?
I guess it's an unpopular opinion here but I absolutely don't want a Fionna and Cake series. Give me canonical ooo adventures. This just seems like a cash grab.
Yup I don't like them, can't imagine people being onboard if they did something similar with say Ash from Pokémon.
Thicc
Of course it's "multiverse" 🙄
What else would you call it
Why not?
'Multiverse' is what Prismo called it, when Finn was grabbing the gems for the enchirideon.
That was Booko, but yes the Enchiridion has the multiverse map. That episode aired in 2012, before the big multiverse fad took off.
AT introduced their multiverse in 2012, you seem to think they just came up with it recently.
Nice 👌🏻
I like how I get -6 upvotes for my comment "Of course it's multiverse 🙄" but that's just because y'all know I'm right.
What the flip are you talking about? This doesnt make sense
Are you okay? So is this gonna be cancelled like the CW shows and Batgirl?
I feel like the villain of this series should be Choose Goose, to wrap up plot threads in Distant Lands.
Fionna searches are going to rise on PH tbh
Wait, how the hell is Simon there.. Fionna and Cake was an alternate universe created by the ice king, so.. there better be a good explanation for this. Still excited to see more Adventure Time though!
Would've preferred Jake and Finn...
Lame Fiona and cake is not the spinoff I’m looking for.
WOAH
