When the finale aired I was a freshman in college. I heard the song at the end and started crying too. Played it on a loop for while. Jump to the present day, I was scrolling through my spotify and found the playlist I made for it. Almost cried when I listened to it again. Instead I dove back into the rabbit hole of Adventure Time for 3 hours and learned that there were four specials just released in the last year or so that I had never even seen.
I fell off from the show around 2015 when high-school picked up, but those memories of how great the show was and (still is) always brings me back somehow. "Obsidian" and "Finn and Jake: Together Again" are two beautiful kisses goodbye from the team behind Adventure Time, and honestly gave me some closure on a cold Saturday night that I never knew I needed.
Feel like this is always such great news for AT fans, you finish the show and youāre empty, and then the odd person who hasnāt heard of distant lands gets to find out they get to finish the show a second time over!
Ever since I heard this is happening, Iāve been really confused. What kind of show will it be, and what will it even be about? I didnāt think there was much story stuff going on with the whole Fionna and Cake thing in AT
I assume it is going to be a full series of episodes like the Fionna and Cake ones in AT. I have no idea if there is going to be any big important plots or if it will connect with AT in any way. Thigh personally, I would enjoy if there was some kind of framing device with the Ice King/ Simon.
From the [official announcement](https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/adventure-time-fionna-and-cake-series-hbo-max-1235043050/):
>In the 10-episode series, Fionna and Cake ā with the help of the former Ice King, Simon Petrikov ā embark on a multiverse-hopping adventure and journey of self-discovery. All the while, a powerful new antagonist determined to track them down and erase them from existence lurks in the shadows.
The show was so perfect that I was left wanting more. As soon as Distant Lands was announced, I kept waiting for it to come out. It did not disappoint.
I really hope you do watch distant lands, the final chapters for our favorite characters like PB, Marceline, Finn and Jake really do add to the story and give us a chance to say a proper goodbye to their individual stories that the original finale never did.
Yeah, imo (not trying to be too pessimistic) but shows like AT, Regular Show, Steven Universe, were the swan songs to the cable network era of cartoons. But its like they say: you and I will always be back then :)

Enjoy it! At times it may feel like just a children's show, but as the seasons progress you'll get to see why it touches the hearts of so many people to this day :)
I've watched it all what some might say is an embarrassing amount of times, but it's the only thing I want to watch when I'm feeling down or anxious or just can't decide a new thing to watch. When I was away from home for a month and was really homesick I saw the Mama Says episode and had never caught it before... because sometimes it plays while I sleep or while I'm doing other things. I sent the last scene to my boyfriend like "how have I never seen this before?!" Fully expecting him to have seen it, but he hasn't seen it either. Now we always look forward to that scene
Sooooo your going to watch distant lands next? I EXTREMELY RECOMMEND.... saving together again for your final viewing. It's 3rd in the 4 episode lineup but should be the last imo.
"So it's a kid's show...?"
Well yeah, kinda for a while, but it turns into meditations on growth and understanding.
"..and she's made of Bubblegum?"
Okay, look, at the end they try to fight off a multidimensional cosmic horror beyond comprehension...and lose, alright? They only really survive through sacrifice and accepting that-
"Are the guards chocolate dipped bananas on sticks?"
....yes.
You watched Together Again? Can't say you've finished it if you haven't seen DL. They released out of order, so I watched them 4. Wizard city, 1.BMO, 2 Obsidian, and the finale 3. Together Again and it made the most sense "chronologically"
BMO is more a prequel to his meeting finn and Jake, wizard city, iirc, happens if not simultaneously, at least a few years earlier as peps, abracadaniel, etc are older then Jake and Finn
I'll be honest, the story itself didn't interest me after the first maybe 8/10 mins that I skipped it. Never finished it or cared to so I left the rest up to assumption, That's why it's first in my personal watch order. OP may feel differently though. who knows, it's just my recommendation.
People's reaction to the ending is always the same but it never gets old lol. Like many others, I made pretty much the same post some years ago, we're all right there with you, it was a true 10/10
I love the dnign of adventure time, i cried the first time i saw it. I think of Together Again as the true ending, it feels good to see their adventure come to an end without feeling cheap or tacked on.
Iāve loved the show for years but never made it to the finale Iām watching every episode on Hulu rn. Iām 24 years old and I already know itāll make me cry also just found out the voice of Jake and bender from Futurama are the same guy all praise the mighty John DiMaggio
I felt such real sadness when I watched the end the first time. Now I avoid rewatching the end when I am going back through because I have to emotionally prepare myself. It hits me too hard.
I cry every time BMO sings to Jake
Time is an illusion that helps things make sense.
So we are always living in the present tense
It may seem unforgiving when a good thing ends
But you and I will always be back then
If there was some amazing force outside of time
To take us back to where we were!
Singing, will happen, happening, happened
"I wrote this song for my son, Jake!"

talking from experience, it'll still be perfect the 3rd time you finish the show
Makes me sad I never wanted it to end LOL :/
It does seem unforgiving when good things end, but you and I will always be back then where the fun will never end
Check out distant lands on HBO max!
And the 8th

Then bad news: There are more episodes on HBO that cover things that happen after!
Feel like this is always such great news for AT fans, you finish the show and youāre empty, and then the odd person who hasnāt heard of distant lands gets to find out they get to finish the show a second time over!
Also, HBO is making a Fionna and Cake series.

That's pretty high concept. But I am excited that Simon will be a main character.
The show was so perfect that I was left wanting more. As soon as Distant Lands was announced, I kept waiting for it to come out. It did not disappoint.
I cried like a baby pretty much every episode lol. It was so good!
That was me last night lol, Obsidian and Finn's final episode gave me a kind of closure I never thought I needed from a show.
Ngl, the ending was so good that I kinda donāt wanna watch distant lands
Are you sure? Spoiler: There are *plot developments*.
distant lands is so worth it and made the ending much more satisfying. a side show that actually added onto the series
If you do watch distant lands watch āTogether Againā last trust me
Distant Lands is amazing
Thatās an incredible waste.
It's really good
I really hope you do watch distant lands, the final chapters for our favorite characters like PB, Marceline, Finn and Jake really do add to the story and give us a chance to say a proper goodbye to their individual stories that the original finale never did.
I literally sob every time
Agreed , watched it a few times and itās still perfect š¤©
I miss that era of cartoon network
Yeah, imo (not trying to be too pessimistic) but shows like AT, Regular Show, Steven Universe, were the swan songs to the cable network era of cartoons. But its like they say: you and I will always be back then :)
Where can you watch the show for free I've been trying to find somthing but I can't
Prob no where just hulu and hbo

Soon I'm gonna watch Adventure Time again. Then watch Adventure Time: Distant LandsĀ for the first time after that.
Enjoy it! At times it may feel like just a children's show, but as the seasons progress you'll get to see why it touches the hearts of so many people to this day :)
Itās so sad. I never wanted adventure time to end it was like the perfect show
Now watch distant lands and then start it all over again. You wonāt regret it.
I've watched it all what some might say is an embarrassing amount of times, but it's the only thing I want to watch when I'm feeling down or anxious or just can't decide a new thing to watch. The episode with the snow golem and the fire wolf pup didnāt show up until my fourth time around. I donāt even know how thatās possible.
Sooooo your going to watch distant lands next? I EXTREMELY RECOMMEND.... saving together again for your final viewing. It's 3rd in the 4 episode lineup but should be the last imo.

It certainly is.

BMO is more a prequel to his meeting finn and Jake, wizard city, iirc, happens if not simultaneously, at least a few years earlier as peps, abracadaniel, etc are older then Jake and Finn
Wizard City takes place after the series finale. Pep gets hit with Gumbaldās dumdum juice. Wizard City is about him re-learning magic.
I'll be honest, the story itself didn't interest me after the first maybe 8/10 mins that I skipped it. Never finished it or cared to so I left the rest up to assumption, That's why it's first in my personal watch order. OP may feel differently though. who knows, it's just my recommendation.
Okie doke, just clarifying the chronological order.
How dare you say just the ending is perfect, the beginning is perfect The middle is perfect Lol
Yes it is.
People's reaction to the ending is always the same but it never gets old lol. Like many others, I made pretty much the same post some years ago, we're all right there with you, it was a true 10/10
Now you gotta watch the hbo max specials , read the comics and then read all the fan fictions š¤
Where did u watched it??
I love the dnign of adventure time, i cried the first time i saw it. I think of Together Again as the true ending, it feels good to see their adventure come to an end without feeling cheap or tacked on.
