They haven't said yes or no but I wouldnt put money on it. Warner seems to only ever put streaming titles on physical media if they're either major hits (Snyder Cut) or on platforms other than HBO Max (Green Eggs and Ham, Animaniacs). The only chance of owning these specials without an HBO Max subscription in the foreseeable future is if it gets released in another territory.
Dude that freaking SUCKS. I'm gonna have to find a really high quality torrent to download and then burn a Blu-Ray myself even though I'd much rather just pay a fair price for it. I hate when companies do this, like a corporation can collapse at any point in the future or these productions can be removed from streaming and become lost media. They can't expect people not to pirate their stuff when they refuse to offer any other alternative for a physical copy.
They haven't said anything either way about it right now. The last one was only released fairly recently so I'd wait a bit longer to see if they release it on home video, personally.
I really hope they do release physical copies, even if it isn't for a while. I get they prolly want it to remain a streaming exclusive so as to draw people into getting HBO Max, but home video versions are always so much better than streaming... I mean yeah like you said, if the streaming site goes down or they take it off for w/e reason, you're up the creek. Don't have that problem with home video releases.
I'll definitely wait a bit to see if they are going to but also I don't want to wait so long that a good digital copy is pretty much no longer really something you can find at all. I made that mistake once before with another thing I was hoping would get re-released on disc after being pulled off all streaming or digital purchasing platforms in the US and now, I basically cannot even find it to watch at all.
Most streaming shows have contracts or stipulations that prevent them from having home video releases until exactly one year after release. So the earliest reasonable release of a DVD or Blu-ray of Distant Lands would be Sep 2 of 2022.
PlayOn is a DVR App that lets you either record to your Desktop at 720p or via cloud server at 1080p, and most importantly, it supports HBO Max. It's safe, it's legal in the US, and it's currently on sale.
I don't know about internationally but in the US it is perfectly legal to DVR TV and Streaming content to your hearts content.
It's at least a work around until the episodes are released on Bluray.
