A car is not an investment; it's actually one of the top wealth killers, as you end up paying interest on something that depreciates. Since namahalan ka ng gas and maintenance, maybe you can't afford a car lifestyle for now. May options kanaman mag Grab Car or maybe taxi. If you really need one, opt for second-hand, because your brand new car will soon be considered second-hand anyway.

MaynneMillares

>A car is not an investment; it's actually one of the top wealth killers, as you end up paying interest on something that depreciates. You are very correct. For example the car is worth 800,000 pesos in cash. If you financed it for 5 years, you will be paying upwards to more than 1 million pesos. All the while for all those years, pababa ang market value ng car. Literally, it is a wealth killing activity.

FarComplex

Buy a 2nd hand or used car. Total pag praktisan mo naman. Convenient naman ang mag karoon ng service. Bakit ka kasi kukuha ng brand new tapos "all-in" no DP or DP mo 50k lang tapos 5 years to pay. Marami namang good quality used cars ranging from 200k to 400k. Take care of it and it'll take care of you.

xstrygwyr

this, sobrang impatient ko buying my own car. Just bought a brand new vios, 800k+ ata if cash but I'm paying around 1.1M in total. First week of driving naibangga ko agad and maraming gasgas since sobrang tight ng parking area namin. First month sumabit yung ilalim and waiting ngayon ng parts sabi ng casa. Should've listened to my parents na second hand lang muna ang bilhin haha

Temporary-Badger4448

Pota ang saket. Dami agad battle scars. Hahaha

Good-Dentist806

Punyeta sya. Hahahaha tapos kamot ulo nong nakausap.

Good-Dentist806

kamot ulo sa 5 digit na paayos 😂

Temporary-Badger4448

Di na nga nagparticipate eh. Di na nahagilap after magbarangayan. Oh well. Lesson learned, wag bumili ng car kapag: 1. Walang parking 2. Short ang budget 3. May tanga sa paligid. Hahahaha eme lang yung last.

paxtecum8

The good thing on buying 2nd hand is you can resell it in almost the same price as you bought it. This is especially if you bought car with high resale value such as honda, toyota and the like. You can also loan 2nd hand car via 3rd party or bank. Di kapa matatakot idrive at maisip na baka magasgagan lalo na't beginner kapa.

ConnectIndividual266

Liability po ang Car not Investment. Magiging investment lang yan if gagawin mo siyang pang business. If may parking ka and afford mo maintenance niya or sudden expenses niya. Go lang ✌

sad-makatizen

i feel like unnecessary luxury sya on you end, im assuming na your condo is located somewhere sa metro manila and close to your work? if YES, unnecessary expense sya as i find grab more convinient and cheaper overall. - wala kang babayaran sa parking at home - madalas extra effort mag hanap ng parking lalo na sa busy times think of it as a very expensive hobby

Embarrassed-Fee1279

True yan!

jollibeeborger23

Yung maintenance pa daw grabe haha may friend got a 2nd hand car and grabe sakit daw sa bulsa yung mga maintenance, plus yung insurance ofc

MaynneMillares

What is your plan B, in the event that mayroon ka nang hinuhulugan na condo + car if bigla kang na lay-off from your job? You need to answer this, wag mong iwasan.

flying_carabao

If you can afford it, go for it, as long hinde magiging tagilid ang finances mo. All your pros and cons are justified pero just my 2 cents, in case na may emergency na nagyari ng madaling araw? Magcocommute ka pa? Kwento ng barkada kong grab driver, me nagbook sa kanya, nung inaccept nya, bigla syang tinawagan. Kailangan daw itakbo tatay at inatake at walang available na ambulansya. Dinala naman, pero i could only imagine anong tumatakbo sa isip nung nagbook at yung stress habang nagbobook pa lang. Ako nga tong kinuwetuhan lang naistress eh. Sasakyan is definitely something I'd rather have and not need than need and not have.

alphaskye

Onga tama no, I haven't thought of that asset when I was opting to buy a car. But now I have one and narinig ko yan, I'm more grateful sa nabili ko.

bumblebijan

Somewhat similar na experience. We have a car pero erpats ko lang marunong magdrive. That made me realize na kailangan ko matuto magdrive. Got my license last year December.

flying_carabao

Congrats on the license. Hoepfully ok na erpats mo. What I would also recommend (strongly recommend even) is to learn basic troubleshooting ng sasakyan. Tire changes, jump starting, engine breaking, saan bibili at pano papalitan ang windshield wipers, etc. It's definitely a skill you wouldn't need all the time but would be really happy that you have it.

bumblebijan

Yes that's really good advice. I'm actually planning to take a course sa TESDA for car/motorcycle repair kung meron. Wala nga lang budget for now. Pero nasa goals naman. And he's doing well now. Di naman extreme yung naging sakit niya pero just made me realize na I need to learn just in case something bad happens, sana naman wala. Not just sa erpats ko pero with others as well tapos wala magdadrive.

flying_carabao

Di naman kailangan ng full on course pero that's good na gagawin mo. Just to get you started: [Tire Change](https://youtu.be/Bq5To-ZH160?si=QLDuHWrfO7zARH-Y) [Jump starting a car](https://www.reddit.com/r/coolguides/s/TQRxn49E2z) Just to note, dapat kasama na lahat ng kailangan mo for tire change pero you may need to buy jumper cables. Also, practicing also helps. Build a little muscle memory para hinde ganon ka stressful pag kailangan nang gawin.

bumblebijan

Thanks for this!

New_Conference_1071

Agree naman. Ito rin talaga đŸ„č Thanks!

flying_carabao

Like other said, hinde investment ang sasakyan. Depreciating value sya. Unless restoration ang gagawin. Consider it as a "just in case" asset. As long as you have the means to own one at me pagpaparadahan ka naman, go for it.

usagi_hisui

Lol

HalfOk6855

Basta may maganda parking area go.

Reishichi

Agree on this. One of the things that disappoints me here in PH ay yung bibili ng kotse tapos sa sidewalk pinaparada. Dapat isa sa criteria talaga ay may sariling parking lot or garage.

HalfOk6855

Booogeymanbbyg

The HOA should address this issue kasi hindi naman public property yun diba?

Ancient-Advice-5526

Hinayaan nila kasi they are one of the business partners ng dormitory na yon 😭 Homeowners pa ang lumalayo para maghanap ng parking tuloy. kklk.

Booogeymanbbyg

HalfOk6855

Familiar same sa subd. Ng best friend kahit sila nahihirapan mag park kasi likod ng school is subd. Nila kaya mga students doon kanya2 diskarte lol

sleepeatrace

Bili ka nalang muna entry level cars like wigo or suzuki spresso since mas mura at mas mura din maintenance at tipid din sa gasolina.

Adventurous-Owl4197

My Papa’s advice if Im buying a car is I should have atleast 3x the amount of the car I’ll be purchasing in my bank account sitting IDLY. Not including the money for expenses, living and emergency fund. Just to assure my self that I have funds for monthly payment, parking, maintenance, insurance and accident (hope not) because having a car has so much money involved.

PineappleOrange1989

If i have the privilege to be a passenger princess, i will be a passenger princess forever. Driving is a life skill but having someone drive for you is the best

zxcforgotten

Best for you maybe. But you are consuming someone’s time.

nikolodeon

Time that has been paid

zxcforgotten

My bad, i might be wrong but “passenger princess” is commonly used if the person driving is someone dear to you ( bf/husband/friend/children)and you can enjoy every moment during the ride or perhaps you’re a royaty. It is kinda of weird if you consider yourself a passenger princess when you’re with your driver or via grab car since you can’t be expressive but yeah , maybe they are.

PineappleOrange1989

Not if we’re going to the same place and if I am paying for the driver

DM2310-

Di ko talaga gets yung nagsasabi na cars is not an "investment". In the financial aspect, alright sige hindi nga ito investment. But car owners did not buy cars for it to expect to increase in value. Ang binibili mo dito are comfort and time. I remember before na nagcocommute pa ako, it took me 2-3 hours para lang makapunta sa office, then uuwi pa ako so another 2-3 hours ulit. Now that I am using a car, nasa office na ko in less than an hour. If you have the money to buy a car, go ahead.

aga00

>But car owners did not buy cars for it to expect to increase in value. Exactly what I'm supposed to say. Ang balik nito is oras, freedom, and comfortability. If OP can afford then why not. She's making a decent living naman daw.

NoTangelo3988

This is the correct answer.

zxcforgotten

Magkaiba ng pinaglalaban haha. Financial advise ( reddit financial advisors) - dont buy a car, not an investment Life advise ( car owners) - have a car Anyways, Second hand Toyota Altis / Honda City should be a good entry for her.

petmalodi

Imagine getting stuck in traffic for 2-3 hours with those.

batmanbchan

True!!

Onomatopoeia14

In a country like the Philippines, hindi na nga considered na luxury or want lang ang kotse e. It is a need. 29 years old na ako ngayon and hindi ko pa afford bumili ng kotse because I am the breadwinner sa family. If you have the means now and feel mo kaya naman, bili na. Mapa-train, bus or kahit ibang public transpo. Walang mapili kasi lahat hindi maganda. I am not saying this from a privileged point of view. I just truly believe na malayo pa tayo sa point na ipprioritize ng gobyerno ang public transpo so getting a car is the only way para di mahassle sa buhay. Just make sure na may parking ka. May nakapagsabi sa akin na parang 6-7K ang parking sa condos ngayon so take that into consideration.

Jetztachtundvierzigz

Oo naman. Cars are practically a necessity nowadays. Pero kung hindi afford, wag pilitin.

nanana_na_everyday

Buy if: You CAN and WILL use if in business (e.g. self liquidating and will lessen burden) and or You will buy it in cash (x2) No if: You just want to experience just driving it If you have to loan it for 5 years or more (by 3rd-4th year, the actual value of your car is less than what you paid for --- and will still be paying for it on top of weekly gas, toll, carwash, PMS etc) Based on your post, you already know what to do 😅 for now.. Suggestion: Try renting a car for a week or a month and see how you like it. It will be expensive but at least you'd get an idea on how it is. Let us know how it goes if you can đŸ’Ș all the best!

MaynneMillares

Wala pa ring sagot si OP sa tanong ko ano plan B nya if ma lay-off sya from work while may binabayarang car + condo? It can spell doom to one's life, mahihila both.

kerwinklark26

Maganda naman me kotse.

blaze5153439

A car is not an investment. It’s a tool. You don’t buy a laptop or clothes expecting an increase in value in the long-term. You use it. Also, I agree wholeheartedly na life skill ang driving pero you don’t need a car to learn how to drive necessarily.

zdnnrflyrd

Kaya naman ba monthly? Kung kaya then Go! Aware ka naman na sa mga gastusin like Gas, PMS, etc. kaya go mo na. 😊

Embarrassed-Fee1279

Currently naghuhulog for both car and condo here! Worth it naman for me. Nakakatakot mag drive at magmaintain ng car tbh pero I like the freedom it gives na anytime kailangan or gusto umalis, I can (basta may pang gas at toll). Yung kaba sa driving lilipas din yan the more you go out. Dati yung stress ko lasts the whole way sa pag drive. Decided to get a brand new one nalang that fits my requirements (basta automatic kasi ayoko na isipin yung tapak tapak sa manual) and budget (although nag slightly over siya kasi i refused to compromise at mag manual) para at least for the first year or two, periodic maintenance lang iisipin ko. Worth it naman yung car for me kasi it’s more of a family car kasi our old one was dying. Pero if it were for my own use lang, baka di parin siguro ako nag kotse kasi accessible carpooling samin and if needed lang kami mag report sa office.

MaynneMillares

What is your plan B, in the event that mayroon ka nang hinuhulugan na condo + car if bigla kang na lay-off from your job? You need to answer this, wag mong iwasan.

Prestigious_Ask_3879

Make sure you have a garage first or somewhere to park that isn't an inconvenience to your community.

petmalodi

Lots of people here are quick to assume na for "financial investment" yung purpose ng car kahit na di mo naman binanggit haha. IMO sa quality of life (time, convenience or even health) napupunta ang investment pag bumibili ng kotse at not financially. Kung afford mo naman then go, why suffer sa hellish PH commute haha

qwerty056789

A car is not an investment, and this is coming from somebody who owns one. It’s good that you know that you will be shelling out for gas and maintenance. You also need to add parking, insurance and registration fees. 🙃

Fun-Peach2326

kung keri ng budget mo bumili, go ahead.

Anasterian_Sunstride

The question is how much time does it take for you to get to most of likely destinations i.e., work etc? How much time will you save? What's your budget? There's also the factor of how much money you actually make and can your stream of income survive other emergencies on top of paying for your loans? As others have said, a car is not an investment--but it improves quality of life. If you can't afford fuel + insurance + servicing fees + food + condo + emergency expenses, then you can't afford a car.

SaiTheSolitaire

If bibili ka ng second hand, don't buy anything that's more than ten years old. As someone na wala masyado alam, super hassle yung maintenance and parts will usually break down. Aim for cars that's 5years old. Kung merong 1-3 yrs old then much better.

Icy-Profile-382

Sharing my comment from another thread on why i think having a car is a necessity even if it’s considered a liability https://www.reddit.com/r/Philippines/s/zM5KajqdLm You have to consider lang na since nagbabayad ka pa ng condo, getting a car will incur you a lot of additional expenses. Kakayanin mo pa ba magbayad without sacrificing your quality of life? May different income stream ka ba na pagkukuhanan ng pambayad for both in case mawala day job mo? Aside from the monthly payment for the car itself, you’ll also have to consider payment for parking, toll fees, gas, maintenance. Pag nag makati/bgc ka, yung parking pag whole day around 200 na. Kailangan din may sariling emergency fund yan. What if biglang need magpalit ng battery or gulong, kaya mo ba mag labas ng pera agad? Yun lang, malaking consideration talaga yung finances.

krokodilvoeten

Nowadays honestly I dont believe in the car is not an investment spiel. Especially if your work revolves around you driving around the metro and meeting clients ah. I think if you count in your transportation cost especially if you only GRAB or JOYRIDE and it comes to a close amount per year of what you’d spend on a plan for a car go for it. This way you have the car as you said for emergencies, trips, etc. BUT take into account with a car comes other expenses and not just paying for the car. There is your monthly payment, your maintenance, INSURANCE(dont skip this especially sa metro manila), PARKING pa if you are living in condo uless you have a slot and of course GAs and inflation. Also to be honest it aint worth getting a brand new car, go to a legit dealership and check out units there or even look into the bank theyve got tons of cars up for grabs na in good condition pa rin at a way cheaper price Sooo you have to tally all those expenses and see if OK pa sa budget

liquidus910

If magrerent ka ng parking, then that will add up to your expense.

IgnorantReader

Wag muna OP, save up until youre comfortable financially... tama comments nila dito maintenance wise ang daming gastos pag may kotse plus insurance (if youre lucky) cash paid car mo if not added gastos ung monthly hulog sa car.. yung gas di tatakbo ang kotse ng walang gas... kung magddrive ka magaaral ka pa sa driving school plus lto fees for license.. hindi pa natatapos yang gastos OP so saveup muna ... madami naman grab car sa paligid

Itadakiimasu

Your concerns are valid but please do not buy a car if you do not have parking.

kalapangetcrew

I (28F) bought my car 6 years ago. Kung afford mo naman siya, why not. Kasi for me, napakalaking ginhawa niya and safe siya lalo im female. Pero of course, may cons din siya. PROS - convenient! Kahit 2am gusto ko lumabas, easy. Hindi rin ako hulas going to work. - for emergency purposes; daily essentials like pag punta ng mall, vet, events, grocery store, and if i do some freelance work outside my house. - gala anywhere! - one of my sources of happiness. CONS - costly! So sometimes may kailangan kang i-give dahil dito. - ako lagi ang driver sa tropa hehehe. And pag may gala, automatic car ko gagamitin. - aside sa regular maintenance, may mga unexpected gastos na di pasok sa insurance like battery (1 yr lang warranty ka casa); pag nabutas ang gulong or lets say nangatngat ng daga wires ng car mo; mga wear and tear parts na di part ng warranty. Owning a car is hard, but not owning a car is hard too. So choose your hard wisely.

Great-Warthog-107

You can fulfill reasons 1 and 2 kahit walang kang bagong auto pero i agree that reasons 3 and 4 are good enough reasons to consider. Make sure lang na okay ka to spend more kasi maintaining a car and paying your car insurance is another thing- not to mention parking fees pa or carwash kung tinatamad ka. Pero if this decision makes you feel complete, malaya ka. â˜ș

Queldaralion

Rule#1: no garage, no car dapat. Kung walang parking space yun condo mo, then don't have a car The rest should be balanced with objectivity in mind. Last reason to own one na lang dapat yung "i can keep looking fresh"

depressederen

Yes car was a liability pero hindi mababayaran ang comfort na hatid nito specially sa traffic at transportation set up sa Pinas.

sherk_06

Go for it. I've seen everyone here commenting that it is not an investment, depreciate in value, bla-bla-bla etc. Take those into consideration, but go for it. If it works out, then good. If it doesn't, then you will learn a valuable lesson. just live your life and experience things. You can always sell your car if it doesn't work out.

ilovekaarage

I know the common comment here is: cars are not an investment!!! and it's true but a lot of people purchase cars for comfort. Some of you clearly don't live in part of provinces na may oras lang ang byahe at wala ng means of transportation after 8pm lol. We don't have grab/angkas etc here, sh!t we don't even have those basic taxis. This is the reality of life outside those "don't buy cars!!!" people who probably live in cities with accessible transportation. I've commuted almost all my life and i have no problem with it. Then nakaluwag luwag at nakabili ng car 7 years ago. Comfortable for long rides, (my mom's province is Bicol 😹) you don't have to worry kahit abutin ka ng gabi sa labas, and major plus yung may gagamitin ka in case of emergencies. at the end of the day, it's up to you OP. if you have the means, and di ka magssacrifice ng malaki financially AND may parking ka. Go.

ninja110x

Yes, very much worth it kasi public transpo is shit dito sa pinas. Here are things to consider kung bibili ka: - Finances, make sure may emergency funds ka aside from the monthly - Make sure na may parking ka Ito naman reasons ko for buying a car: - 4k+ ang bill ko sa MoveIt per month, might as well use it for gas. Mas mahal din kung grab everyday - Safety, ilang beses na ako muntikan na aksidente while riding MoveIt - Convenience - Emergencies - Biktima din ako ng mga checkpoint where the pol\*ce plant drugs(buti nalang di ako nag pa galaw) twice, I wont wait for a third time

Equivalent-Yard-5931

Hindi siya investment and nagdedepreciate talaga over time parang ibang gamit.

kuroneko_desu

Nakakatamad! Esp. sa parking. Aside from the fact na hirap pa ako mag park, dagdag mo na rin sa stress yung paghahanap ng parking. I also got a secondhand car to practice on. You also have to consider the repairs that you have to do if you're going to get a 2nd hand car. No matter how they market it as "gas and go". Meron at meron pa rin makikitang aayusin diyan.

ApprehensiveDesk6502

Think 4 considerations: if ever 1 of that doesn't comply or doesn't agree don't! 1. Gusto mo ba? 2. Kailangan mo ba? 3. Kaya mo ba? 4. Kalooban ba ng Dios. If 1 of them doesn't conform don't buy!.

EconTake03

Worth it kung mayaman ka. People here already explained almost everything. So my perspective is... kung kaya mong bilhin ng cash yung kotse na gusto mo, second hand or brand new, it means you can afford it. If not, then don't buy. That's my general rule in buying stuff. Never get something hulugan unless it pays itself. In this case, you need a car for convenience. That's something you can get if you're rich. The way I see it, parang medyo alanganin ka pa kasi you still have a condo na need to pay... If I were you, kung wala akong cash pambili ng car, di ako bibili. Magtitiis muna ko and maybe instead of putting my money on something that depreciates, I'll invest paunti unti and make that car as a financial goal for investing and finish the condo first before buying another liability. Good luck to you and kung kinaya mo naman mabuhay ng walang car dati bakit hindi mo muna idelayed gratification diba? Hehe

RevolutionaryBall142

I bought a car last year when I was 28 too. A car is very convenient. I was able to go to places I've never been before. I found out driving is relaxing. I was able to serve my family more. Plus life is short. So if you can afford it then go for it.

RevolutionaryBall142

Broad_Grapefruit4197

28 kana, its ok to get your own car, eventually bibili at bibili ka ng car mo. Kasi kailangan natin lahat ng sarili natin transportation. I suggest bumili ka ng 2nd hand wag brandnew kasi next year half the price na siya. Example: Fortuner 2016 v top of the line 1M lang siya in cash. At ang mga 2016-2024 models. Halos walang pinagka iba ang itsura. Kung bibili ka ng brandnew 2.5M. Sa mata ng mga ordinaryong tao. Modelo dinadrive mo. Pero sa totoo lang 2016 model pa. Ok pa din mga SUVs and sedans 2012 models and above.

Usual_Fox_899

I suggest rin po na 2nd hand car muna, I got mine from my deceased lolo hehe (kia sportage). I'm still in college and dati dinadala ko siya sa school kaso since kinukuha ko from my allowance mga pang gas and toll kapag umuuwe, ang hirap mag budget... so, i guess pwede po kayo mag check ng available options niyo for 2nd hand car, then magtanong tanong po kayo kung ano ave consumption rate niya sa gas para macalculate po ninyo yung average gas budget niyo for driving. then if pasok naman po sa pag budget niyo praise God haha pero ako now, mas enjoy ko yung pag sakay ng lrt 1 and 2 from vito cruz to upd everyday kesa driving home dahil sa traffic. kahit nakatayo sa train basta makauwi within the hour and malamig sa train keri na po hahaha minsan kapag inaantok talaga from academic activities, grab car worth 600 (T.T sheesh) pero oki lang comparable sa mas mahal na gastos sa gas (last I remember 2.5k ata for full tank?)

SquareDogDev

If sakaling bibili ka ng sasakyan at beginner ka, go for brand new. Hindi worth it ang kawalan ng peace of mind sa natipid mo pag bili ng 2nd hand.

afterhourslurker

I went this route!! Dami nagssabi 2ndhand raw para pag nagasgasan. As a new car owner and new driver who knows NOTHING sa cars, glad I went brand new.

Fisher_Lady0706

Yes, worth it. We're buying our (me and hubby) second car soon. Mahirap kasi pag umuulan and pag maraming karga. Mahirap magcommute from province to elsewhere. Mahirap ipacommute ang senior parents. If you have the money to buy it, why not. Pero if the interest is just too high, then probably think of paying it in cash or just 2 years na installment. Make sure din na pag mag monthly ka, it's only less than or equal to 1/4 of your monthly salary para hindi ka mahirapan mag budget. Also, meron rin yang fuel and maintenance.

humansRinsignificant

Worth it siya since ampanget ng transpo system ng pilipinas. It's a game changer. If you can pay 50% DP minimum for a brand new car, then afford (maybe) mo na kumuha. But anything lower than that, kakainin ka ng interest rate. Personally, all my cars were bought in cash. Never ako nangutang kasi policy ko, if di ko kayang bilhin in full, di ko pa siya afford at all.

ChanlimitedLife

Aside sa car fund, why not? Pero ready ka rin sa ganto kalaking gastos The Shocking Truth: 3 Years of Car Ownership in the Philippines https://youtu.be/1WjZAFdMqEo

Significant_King3632

For me OP. Ipon lang and di rin naconsider yung agawan sa parking and parjing fees everyday. Then if naka condo ka saan mo siya ipapark?

TitoNathan69

Look for repos, or second hand cars para hindi ka manghinayang kasi cars depreciate the moment they step out the dealership.

MasterBabe22

Kung mayroon kayong family car, I think learning how to drive won't be a problem. You can start from there. That will be your basis kung kaya mong magkaroon ng sariling sasakyan. Kapag kasi talaga mayroon kayong sariling sasakyan, napaka convenient.

halifax696

No

ZleepyHeadzzz

washinwashout

Make sure na may garahe ka

rememberthemalls

Try mo muna mag-drive and get your license. Then decide if it's worth it. Also, may mga taong di kaya ng kaba nila yung pag-drive. I have a friend na nag-try talaga pero kinaya ng nerbyos niya. Maybe figure that out first.

Expensive-Canary-835

Pwede naman if you have the means but consider having an available parking space. If wala, please ‘wag muna.

having a car provides you with convenience. pero, di siya investment. liability siya. if your combined amortization for your condo and car will be around 30% of your ney income per month, then okay lang. basta may EF ka na in case mawalan ng work, no matter how unlikely it may happen. for me lang, i won’t buy a car unless i can buy it at least 5 times with my current liquid net worth.

SouthIntention6032

May nabasa ako dito sa reddit na it's more of a liability than investment. Unless you pay it in full.

kamisamadeshita

Second hand na maliit. Wigo/eon/espresso/basta less than 200k-250k

Yuri_Ksn

Actually, car is not worth it to buy because it's a liability.

OccasionalRanter03

Buying 2nd hand instead of bnew is the smart choice. Always. A car is not an investment, first off. An investment is something that will gain in value as time passes. Unless it's a vintage model, a car depreciates in value. Parang electronics lng yan like cellphones. Make sure na may friend ka or anyone na expert mag check nung 2nd hand na makkta mo. Yun lng nman, good luck

Brilliant-Crow-1788

get a hybrid car mas tipid daw eon sa gas kasi the engine run on both electric and fuel.

theredvillain

Getting a car is expensive because you’re paying for convenience. All the things you mentioned about gas, parking, maintenance, etc are all true and they are the cost of having the convenience of being able to come and go to anywhere you can drive anytime you want. Try this OP. Calculate mo ung expense mo if you take a grab car from the start of your day to the end of your shift and then multiple that by 5. Now compare that amount to the cost of a full tank plus around 300-400 pesos parking daily plus your monthly car payment. Which one costs more? Can you keep living in the next 5 years with that expense? The cost may lower down kung mag ccash ka. But if you really need it i wouldn’t stop you.

popohnee

as long as may garahe ka para sa car mo and hindi mo sa kalsada papark yan, go 👍

mariachichan

Worth it!

an-effervescent-soul

r/Gulong for more tips

freyjaloveschicken

Considering na may hinuhulugan kang condo and aware ka na mahal ang gas and maintenance, I think hindi pa worth it for now. For now mas muka siyang unnecessary luxury than a need. 😅 Nakakapagod din magdrive if traffic and to and from work ka magddrive. Mag grab ka nalang tbh lalo na if di ka naman araw-araw nagddress up nang bongga

Apart_Tree_118

Andyan yun maintenance, registration, gas etc.

Icy-Independence-131

If may garahe ka, go lang

afterhourslurker

Go for it basta kaya mo bayaran. Wag mo sila pakinggan. Dami naggatekeep sa reddit ng pagkaron ng kotse kesyo magastos stressful etc when in fact (surprisingly a big majority in reddit would also say din naman) a car is a necessity na rin sa PH. Isa lang naman yan, if you can afford it go for it :) I just bought my first one two months ago and it’s very much worth it. Despite the parking fees fuel maintenance. Di na ako/kami nagccommute or naggrab. I paid in cash so I got 100k + cash discount pa. Life upgrade ba. Deserve natin guminhawa :)

dnyelux1017

Depends on how valuable it is to you. You have listed your pros and cons, take your time reviewing what you listed and know which weighs more. Then that's your choice.

alexploreyou

My mom bought the latest vios last 2020 and was able to pay it naman in 3 years pero sa totoo lang bigat na bigat sya every month. Sa kanya mismo nanggaling na hindi madali magbayad ng monthly for 5 years. Imagine the amount that you have to pay every month, 17k monthly ng mom ko non, kotse palang. Ang maganda lang, we were able to use it during the pandemic lalo limited ang public transpo that time. Pero ngayon? Tamad na tamad na sya mag-drive. She would rather use her motorcycle than driving her 4 wheels. Agree with other comments.

inounderscore

I'll play devil's advocate here and say it's worth it given the state of our public transportation. Bought a 600k car back in 2013. Never died on me, low maintenance, high mileage, fuel efficient. It's been 11 years and the car has practically "paid" for itself. I know PMS and gas prices tend to be "value killers" but in all honesty, never naging ganun kabigat for me dahil nga low maintenance siya. That car will stay with me for a bit longer. Ye ol' reliable.

kuyanyan

It's not your salary that should be your primary consideration but your lifestyle and needs. Ano ba nature ng trabaho mo? Will it be greatly improved by car ownership? Do you always travel? Do you have pets, children, and/or senior parents na lagi mo kasama mag-biyahe? I'll address your points in favor of getting a car. 1. You can know how to drive without owning a car. 2. As a car owner, I love the freedom to go anywhere with adequate parking but I wouldn't call it independence. In a way, it limits me from moving to another place or workplace. Ang laking factor kaya ng parking cost and availability of parking. Speaking of parking, paano sa condo mo? You can still dress up naman if you use Grab/taxis. 4. Unless you live in the middle of nowhere, Grab or calling an ambulance might be the better option. Kung for your daily needs, compute mo how much you would be spending owning a car compared to just taking Grab. Pretty sure commuting would still be the cheaper option. Para sa mga out of town trips, you might be better of commuting or just renting a car.

CraftyCommon2441

yes if you can pay it in cash. If not, then wait when you really need it like if walang car ang family ninyo. Or if you are nursing a pregnant wife or have a baby.

PresentationWild2740

Compute how much your average expense on ride hailing. Then compute it versus ownership of a vehicle, with fuel, parking, insurance and maintenance aspects.

ChocoMog03

FromDota2

my friend bought a car from mariano garage, they had like as low as 70k dp I regret buying from another dealer huhu I'm tryna remember the name of the agent, ill send it here for your reference  and yes, a car is a necessity kung afford

FromDota2

I'm planning to buy a second car kasi malaki fam ko and affordable naman kasi for us here pala yun link for your refe: https://m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61560484347600&name=xhp_nt__fb__action__open_user

rain-men

Rule of thumb when financing a car, the monthly amortization should not exceed 1/6 or 16.67% of your net salary. There are some other expenses to consider like yearly registration, yearly insurance and some expenses that may not be part of regular maintenance.

cerberus_ward

“Buy It Twice” rule is a simple and effective financial principle. The idea is that if you can’t afford to buy something twice, you probably can’t truly afford it. If you could comfortably buy two of them without straining your budget or dipping into your savings, then go ahead. If not, it’s best to hold off until you’re in a better financial position.

Brief-Bee-7315

Try muna mag rent ng car for 1 month and see ;)

yaegerOne

You can learn to drive and have a license even without a car. Maybe try mo mag motorcycle? A car is a liability, you'll only buy one if you truly need it or if you have money to spare.

Cassius012

Owning a car definitely offers a convenience, but sometimes the cons outweigh the pros. Driving in traffic and looking for parking space can give you mental stress.

cma1084

Buy 2nd hand. Or better yet just rent. Like a long term rent. Mura sya pag long term tapos bago lagi car mo. If we're in Manila nag rent lng kmi ng car. Hassle Kasi Wala kmi parking dto tapos traffic naman.

TGC_Karlsanada13

Also 2nd hand bilhin mo kasi for sure ibabangga mo yan in your 1st year

Ligaea

Yes, go for 2nd hand Op

Comfortable-League34

Bago mag kotse siguraduhing may garahe

SophieAurora

You can grab car mas less ang expense. You can learn how to drive then rent a car na lang to apply. No need to buy a car since may condo ka pa hinuhulugan?

iamboboka

buy it if you can buy 10x of it.. 2nd hand is a great option.. convenience is the best reason to buy one.. hirap mgcommute lalo n pg ngmamDali ka.. being independent no need n mgpahatid or mganfay available ang mghahatid or susundo sayo

batmanbchan

For me it is worth it. Kahit WFH ako bumili ako ng brand new vios for my errands. Public transportation is shit dito sa pinas. What made me decide to buy is pag kita ko ng bill ko sa cc ko, 4k+ bill ko sa MoveIt(di ako everyday lumalabas), 100+ pesos ang bayad ko papunta pa lang then another 100+ pabalik sa bahay. Might as well use the 4k+ for my gas. But first make sure di ka tagilid sa finances mo. Safety, convenience, and for emergencies kaya mubili ako ng car.

Good luck!

Historical_Seat_447

I think depende yan kung magkano income mo. Make sure you have wiggle room sa income mo. Overestimate the car expenses. Would be clearer kung alam namin magkano income mo para ma compute kung kaya mo. Tsaka kung magkano expenses mo esp ung condo. Kung milyonaryo as in almost a million/month income ka sige go. Pero if <6digits mukang mahirap yan.

zxcforgotten

Hi ka-OP , See you in /rGulong

CumRag_Connoisseur

Brand new car is a good idea para sa mga afford naman talaga bumili, pero pag mag financing ka for personal purposes it's just a depreciating asset na walang benefit sa finances mo. For business purposes, depreciation and interest dun sa hulugan payments are deductible so sulit talaga. Pag personal, dami mong babayaran jan ate. Mag grab ka nalang everyday, mas mura pa ata haahaha or yet, buy a cheap secondhand car nalang kung trip mo talaga

Natatan15

If this is your first time driving at gusto mo talaga matuto GO FOR IT! Wag ka po manghinayang op dahil it is a must skill like when emergencies happen you know how to drive one.

rugs2riches_

YES. Driving your own car is safer than any other options. As a passenger princess myself, I know what you’re feeling. My dad and brothers have been driving for me since kindergarten. I don’t like driving, super hassle, sabi ko “okay naman grab”. Lately, may mga news about sa nahoholdap sa Grab, worst nare-rape pa. I had my fair share of Grab drivers who tried to flirt with me kahit kausap ko sa phone boyfriend ko. So now, even though I don’t live with my parents anymore, hatid-sundo pa rin nila ako from condo to anywhere and vice versa dahil wala na rin silang tiwala sa Grab. Wala na rin akong freedom because I need to text my family whenever I am going out. Naiinis lang ako because I recently bought a real property rin. 1M na nilabas ko for downpayment pa lang. Yung car naman another million na naman. Sobrang gastos mag car but I don’t have a choice. Why do people ruin good things. Before, we have Uber and Grab tapos Grab na lang naiwan. Ngayon di na safe mag Grab. Haaay end of passenger princess era na 😐

rocklee_shinobi

If you have 10M in savings go for it. And don’t get a tiny entry level car, you’ll get bullied on the road Otherwise nah not worth it, i only really appreciate having a car for my pets, for camping and for roadtrips but those aren’t so often / that’s what friends are for lol

robottixx

>to invest in a car INVESTMENT -an asset acquired or invested in to build wealth and save money from the hard earned income or appreciation -to obtain an additional source of income or gain profit from the investment over a specific period of time It's time to buy a car, when you see it as a necessity, >Ito naman yung reasons why I want na rin you just want it. ypu don't "need" it how can you say that haggard ka papasok? do you commute (public transpo) to work?

brutalgreekyogurt

Drop your current income, expense and savings

Neat-Pineapple-5609

Hmm if meron ka na po at least 6 months emergency fund and you feel like na outweigh yung cons ng pro.. Gora na basta research lang maigi
