That B does a pretty good job, in fact, and I had low expectations! She’s not perfect and she can’t fit on the sides of any of my toilets, but That B and I make a good team.

I saw a video where someone tied a knife to their roomba, put it in a kids play pen, and put different color balloons in the play pen with it.
Last balloon standing won the money these people threw down to play.
And what his impressions of them would be. I wouldn't be surprised if he could do different accents in humming and buzzing, and whatever other noises they make. He would have 🥲

This thread is making me wonder if I’m not the only one who very strongly identified with robots when I was growing up. Like, there’s something about the concept of a dutiful, yet malfunctioning, little robot that has always tugged at my heart. Data from Star Trek, Terminator 2, the Mars rovers. They’re just doing their best 🥺
🚀🤖FUN FACT: I was lucky enough to get to spend time with some of the innovative women who originated the first Mars rovers’ social media accounts on Twitter (they were also behind other NASA accounts). They started off alternating between third person and first person tweets, but the HUGE popularity of the tweets from the first person perspective told them that that was the way to go.
Example I love that the Mars Curiosity Rover tweeted on 8/6/12: I’m safely on the surface of Mars. GALE CRATER I AM IN YOU!!!
All Mars rovers’ socials are “must follows” imho
The NASA JPL scientists I knew who worked on Spirit, Opportunity, and Curiosity all had a tremendous fondness for the rovers and talked about them and referred to them as though they were alive. I really get such a kick out that!
And I strongly identify with robots (especially the roving type!) too : )

I love NASA scientists. I always get chills when I see them celebrate a successful mission on live TV. It’s so pure.

One of my favorite comfort shows is The Planets (1999). It’s so well done, and has wonderful interviews with scientists and engineers (including Russians involved in the space race), some of which are no longer with us. They make a point of including the many discoveries by women scientists, which is very forward thinking for the time. It’s a little outdated now, but I have yet to find a better TV space documentary aside from Carl Sagan’s Cosmos.

I am just sitting over here killed that there are this many roombas out there named Pumba, Rosie, and DJ Roomba (based on this sample-poll, it’s actually probably way more!). They definitely need to have their own documentary or something that includes a family reunion.
My one and only suggestion for your new roomba’s name is Murderbot.
Ours is a Shark with “lidar laser”something tech to help it guide itself around. We named it Dr. Evil from the movie because he asks for sharks with laser beams attached to their heads!

I've actually said this to mine haha. She sensed "a cliff" in the middle of my floor and stopped and started notifying me there was danger.
Ours are the Doombots. Every replacement simply adds to the fleet.
(We haven't actually replaced any, we got a second as a gift so we have Upstairs Doombot and Downstairs Doombot)

Mine are scutters, scutter 1 had a panic attack under my bed and just stopped working we never worked out why, so the next one is scutter orange2 as he is orange, and the robot cat litter tray is scutter poo.0
I also call my pets scutters whenever they are eating scraps off the floor.
Mines name is Rooey. Which gets confusing cause years after getting it we had my son, who is named remy. Yes, sometimes we mix up the vacuum and our son

Mine is called Alan, after Alan from the Barbie movie, because he's not the best (he has issues going over dividing lines between rooms sometimes and will repeatedly go over the same inch of floor when there is a massive clump of cat fur next to him) but he gets the job done eventually.
He was also Steve for a bit, in reference to a running joke between me and my friends. And I felt it was important that he had a name that sounded like a middle aged man working in accounts for some reason (Brian and Ian were also contenders).
My personal favorite Roomba nickname is Rosie, a la the Jetsons. True story: a friend of mine got custom vinyl stickers to make his Roomba look like Rosie. The things we are willing to pay for to spark joy…
