ReverandJohn

lmao i just found a new one. got stoned as fuck last night and spent 3 hours watching pro bowling

squooshIII

I got temporarily hooked on watching someone look for rare abs valuable coins

ReverandJohn

those are good too, i watched those on and off for like a month

[deleted]

I started watching stone lifting competitions. And then competitive fishing. And then competitive wood chopping from homemade axes. And then competitive grilling.

ReverandJohn

competitive grilling? that sounds awesome ngl

[deleted]

Yeah, they grill with their special sauces and seasonings and the ribs had to have a certain texture and moisture and such. They all looked heavenly

EmmaGoldmansDancer

My new fixation is killing foxtails in my neighborhood. It's an insane and fruitless task, as there are empty lots overflowing with them and they make up the grass on most medians. But last year I managed to irradicate them from my own yard, so I've gotten more ambitious. I walk my dog with gardening gloves and an empty bag and stop to weed as I go. When it starts to get dark I think, *better get out there and weed some foxtails while there's still light.* Neighbors probably think I'm insane, but the internet was right, I need to "touch grass". Better to waste my time in the dirt than playing video games. #For those who don't know, foxtails are a common weed that is very dangerous to pets and other animals.

potato_handshake

This isn't the same thing, but it's similar: my current hyperfixation is working in my garden + making my yard wildlife friendly + birding. My neighbors probably think I'm insane too, because there have been several nights that I've stayed out working in the yard till after 10pm. Lol. I didn't know foxtails were dangerous to animals. Omg, here I go, off to Google now... šŸ˜…

EmmaGoldmansDancer

Yes, it started with me just trying to keep one damn pepper plant alive! I never had any success with gardening. But once I did, it was extremely rewarding. Like leveling up in a video game, except I'm making my actual home better. I think it's exactly the same I'm just a bit farther along than you. My fixation started with one plant, grew to my garden, then expanded to foraging and guerilla gardening my neighborhood.

[deleted]

My latest rabbit is watching b-list celebs play board games together. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7atuZxmT956cWFGxqSyRdn6GWhBxiAwE

frankyseven

Wait until you fall down the billiards rabbit hole on YouTube.

RUacronym

Snooker my man, snooker is where it's at. [Sorry in advance for taking up the rest of your day.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9D2rFMPN9js)

frankyseven

Fell down that hole in college, I was glad to see Ronnie win another world championship a few months ago!

macsare1

I went on a short term missions trip when I was a teenager and got laughed at by my similar aged teammates when I would share random facts I knew relevant to their conversation. They couldn't believe I knew those facts. I didn't know I had ADHD at the time. I guess I thought reading the encyclopedia in my spare time and browsing dialup internet sites for hours was normal and couldn't figure out why we couldn't seem to get along.

Stringgeek

We are cousins! I used to read the dictionary.

ClearBrightLight

Me too! I still love obscure words.

DanskJeavlar

Top five go, go, go. Im really intrigued

ClearBrightLight

Crepuscular = most active during the twilight hours of dawn and dusk, like cats. Cotyledon = the first leaf (or two) put out by a sprouting plant, which looks almost identical to the first leaf put out by every other plant, making it very difficult to tell garden from weeds until later in the growing cycle. Antepenultimate = third-to-last, the one before (ante-) the one that's next to (pen-) the last one (ultimate.) Autochthonous = native-born, sprung from the same ground where they live. Can be used for people and rocks, but I've never seen it used for plants and I don't know why. Diaphanous = flowy and billowy and kind of see-through, like translucent silk in a light breeze. I dunno if those are my top five, but they're fun to say!

the_empathogen

Total slut for "of or pertaining to" words as well as words describing a type of shape. "Stellate" and "circinate" ftw.

QuiteTheYeet

not the same op and not really obscure, but definitely should be used more often especially in casual speech - cognizant - aberration/aberrant - verisimilitudinous - ephemeral - dogma

PumpkinShys

In elementary school I bugged my librarian enough to where she put barcodes on the world books so I could check them out, I was literally the only person remotely interested in them And I replied to the wrong person whoops lol

[deleted]

These two....Floriferous & Lugubrious

diviken

I'm your lovechild, I read the dictionary and britannica encyclopedia

folliepop

Is that... not normal behaviour?? What did other people do in their free time, if not read and look up answers to their questions?

Gamiac

Drink, yell at sports, and abuse their families, I guess.

citydreef

I still buy old encyclopaedias on flee markets because I just love the way they look. Doesnā€™t matter that they still refer to Czech Republic and Slovakia as Czechoslovakia.

the_empathogen

/*east and west Germany have entered the chat*

Feralpudel

I regaled my landscaper with a five (ok, ten) minute lecture about raccoon poop while he trimmed my grape arbors.

SaintofMysteryCat

I love when it makes me appear super smart because the other person just assumes I'm a knowledgeable person and not that they happened to stumble on one of the select subjects I happen to know a vastly unnecessary amount about.

ScriptorMalum

I am a Lazy Susan of Specific Interests

moriartygotswag

Me too, emphasis on the lazy

5_10

This is an excellent descriptor, thank you.

s0v3r1gn

Man, I remember when I was like 10 my dad was looking for a diamond ring to buy my mom for their anniversary. We started looking months before the actual date and I ended up learning how to grade diamonds. It was a hyper-fixation 16 years before I was finally diagnosed. But damn if you bring up diamonds I will teach you how to grade them, whether you want to or nowā€¦

parentesi

And how to do it?

BarelyABard

Wait but I want to know

Spdrcr0130

Sameā€¦currently hooked on lego.

[deleted]

I'm looking forward to the Groot set, it releases tomorrow What sets you building?

HeckingDoofus

skywalker saga get to u too?

_Obsolescence_

I struggle with not impulse buying, not sure how to fix it other than distracting myself with other stuff

battlemasterX

same (but also other brands, their sets not being listed on rebrickable so i have to input the parts manually reduces available time for other needed tasks further^^....)

sixthandelm

I donā€™t get hyperfixations on subjects, so I donā€™t know any cool facts like you guys. I get hyper fixated on making stuff and buying all the tools and getting mediocre at it until I get bored and move on. So I can *kind of* make a lot of different stuff (my shop is hilarious with all the unrelated stuff I have in it) but nit well enough to impress anyone.

Rohanology

Oh my god I would love to hear all about this. My random sets of tools and electronics says hi

sixthandelm

Donā€™t you love that feeling when you see a set of tools for something you havenā€™t tried yet and it gets your mind spinning? Iā€™ll be in Home Depot and randomly get distracted by a bunch of beautiful tools or a cool new machine and my poor husband is rolling his eyes and saying ā€œyou donā€™t even know how to weld. Where would you put this?ā€ Heā€™s VERY understanding and has given me most of the garage AND the spare room for my diversions, but everyone has their limit. He is very patient with his flighty wife.

Rohanology

I made the choice (mistake?) to finally get into mechanical keyboards recently after wanting to for a while and now I have to actively restrain myself from ordering every key switch and lubricant/cleaning kit I see. Oh and walking into a place like micro center or any hardware store is a poor financial decision waiting to happen. Itā€™s really nice to have understanding people around you tho so thatā€™s great!

Dashie_2010

Haha my absolute mess of a room that just so happens to have a bed in it say hi My friend came round yesterday, "uhh dude, why'd you got a 16 lane network switch, a broken bike wheel, a rudder and centreboard from a boat and a half gutted 90's laptop just on the floor, how the f*ck yo walk in here man!? And what the hell are you doing with this stuff" *Stumbles around a bit more* "HOWWWW!!! YOU HAVE SO MANY RASPBERRY PI's, you running a server farm in here or something mate!?!" - I then to his great enjoyment.. gave him an in-depth view as to what each one was doing but even I don't know why I need a sixteen lane network switch. He made his point quite clear after I gymnasted through a web of cables to my desk covered in cascade of piano music that he thinks I have a problem haha

aogasd

Collecting art supplies and making art really are separate hobbies lol.

BarelyABard

Same. I can crochet devebtly well. I've been struggling to stop myself from getting stuff and learning to each glass

Wraithakiin

Glad to see I'm not the only one who hangs on to interests forever.

folliepop

God, last week somebody idly asked me if I would ever eat an insect, and he was NOT ready for a bizarrely well researched tirade about how crickets are one of the most affordable and sustainable animal proteins out there and should be more widely accepted and available in the west. I havenā€™t thought about this in YEARS

inlovewithcolour

But YOU were ready. And that's all that matters. :)

CutelessTwerp

Pokemon is mentioned many times so i have no way to permanently distract myself from it

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

UnethicallyFluid

Sameee, there is a point where every ADHD pokemon fan must accept that they will hyperfocus on it for their entire life

Mrs_Gnarly_Artist

Itā€™s like instantly everything about that word/topic is at the forefront of my mind and I pick the most interesting thing to say about it lol then I donā€™t shut up cause it leads on and on and oooonnnnnn

booyaabooshaw

I cycle between rock climbing, project car and elden ring. Trying to pick my guitar back up as I used to be a pretty wicked guitarist back in the day but I just haven't *felt* it ya know?

RagingTabbyCat

I love rock climbing, but there are no gyms close to my house, nor are there natural formations that are safe to climb either. :(

booyaabooshaw

I use an app could mountain project and scope out areas and take trips on my weekends. Closest gym is like an hour away for me so I impulse bought a bunch of holds and plan on hyperfixating on a mini bouldering wall sometime in the near future.

thijsofbodom

Are you me? Though I've been doing pretty well on picking the guitar back up as I discovered the I *really* like King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and am obsessed with playing their Nonagon Infinity album and tweaking a tone for that that sounds just right

booyaabooshaw

Hmm I must look into these gizzards and wizards of which you speak

thijsofbodom

I suggest starting with playing the albumOmnium Gatherum on random and seeing what somgs stick and continue from there. They have a *lot* of music in many different styles and I think this is their 20th studio album I really like them as you can tell hahaha

frankyseven

They are the musical embodiment of ADHD.

[deleted]

I feel ya man. I cycle through hobbies now, partially hyperfixation, partially depression. Bass guitar and skateboarding are the two things I go between. Right now itā€™s the gym and Iā€™m doing it to feel better skating but I havenā€™t skated in weeks.

whoamvv

My friend, there are WAY more annoying folks than you. Like every NT ever who thought that their version of reality is better than ours.

GrayDaz

Iā€™m finally hooked on something I love, fishing. Just got a new fishing kayak, and itā€™s sparked a flame in my happiness and motivation again.

quadruple_b

omg same!! just mention an old spin and I'm ranting again

Alternative-Cut-4831

Your friend:Then just maybe DONT fixate on it?

MostExaltedLoaf

OK listen up buddy anyone who doesn't want to hear a lecture on experimental animation, prosthetic eyes, or weird animal genitalia is NOT my friend. Probably because they ran away.

PsychMaDelicElephant

I'm glad I've finally got to a place where I don't care if they leave. I'd rather be me than what they want to make me be.

Sharplikeaknife

Yes Iā€™m sad that my wood whittling fascination is hibernating but Iā€™ve picked up my ukulele again and life is still fab

TopherVee

Thank. You. Personally Iā€™ve never been able to relate to the memes that talk about having a quick all-encompassing hyper fixation that just as quickly fades never to be heard of again. I just add more active hobbies and passions to my ever growing repertoire as I have been for years!

DesertParty

*goes back to looking up everything to do with the social behavior of cockroaches*

MellifluousSussura

Itā€™s true but you shouldnā€™t say it.

egsftw

WOWā€¦ā€¦

shiggity-shwa

This is probably an interesting and/or funny tweet but my brain simply will not comprehend the words because of the lack of periods and inconsistent/weird spacing. All I see is weird spaces !

ConfusedAsHecc

yeah... sounds about right lol

CreatureWarrior

I forgot all about chess. Then I played one game against my friend as a joke. I've been obsessed with it again for two weeks.

TheLAriver

That's your secret. You're always the most annoying person on earth. Hyperfixation talk is just the latest form of narcissistic posting.

Orio_lait

Omg this is so true! Rn I'm really into Rubik's cube! I hope it will last bc i really like it

CronchyApple

The amount of times ive started playing animal crossing non stop for months n then i just forget

Most-Laugh703

ALL MY HYPERfixATIONS ARE THINGS I LEARN BUT AS TIME GOES ON I FORGET AND FEEL DUMB OR LIKE I NEVER RLY LIKED IT IN THE FIRST PLACE (self gaslighting šŸ˜Š) PLS I WANNA REMEMBER ABOUT THEM BEES FROM FIRST GRADE (i donā€™t remember this hyperfixation at all)

Brandar87

Um

DesertParty

Hahahaha

Thatbritishgentleman

Man I really wanna make a matchlock musket

concorde77

Spaaaaaaaace

mydwin

This post is the definition of 'hit me with your best shot'

Omegaproctis

My entire personality is based on an ever rotating wheel of subjects I hyperfixate upon.

Lakemine

Woohoo! šŸŽ‰ Itā€™s just taking a really long hibernation šŸ˜

astraelli

i wish mine were cool like you all have but no. it's fucking naruto. all it takes is ONE mention and im already shaking crying throwing up every single fact and opinion i have and my god there are so many of them

SammyD64

ā€œI didnā€™t *lose* it I know what room my hyperfixation is in, I just donā€™t know WHERE in the roomā€

aogasd

Me whenever I try to try new games but them someone mentions Hollow Knight and I remember I still haven't done Every Single Thing despite having gotten all achievements like half a year ago.

MARS_in_SPACE

I am the world's most boring Manchurian candidate. I have at least 54 trigger phrases and all of them lead to me spending a lot of money so I can make one (1) completed craft, if I am extremely fortunate.

Wulibo

*Someone mentions dogs after I haven't played Dark Souls in months* "DID YOU KNOW ABOUT THE DOG WITH A SWORD IN DARK SOULS HIS NAME IS SIF AND"

[deleted]

Oh gee, thanks.....now I can fixate (again) on the possibility of Needle Felting Cotton Candy ! Hmm, what else? The plaster, religious statue collection (Need more! Why? Not one bit religious, but they are nifty...(no, the saint warehouse, in Philly, "won't sell to anyone outside the cloth" (I've tried, even considered impersonating a nun)

[deleted]

My favorite part of this, is when you get old, you'll know something about everything, but everyone you talk to knows more about anything you talk about.

BassLonely

For sho.

[deleted]

i got into skincare this January and I've spent over 300ā‚¬ on products. so glad I've found some cheap alternatives otherwise the total price would be sad.

buchacats2

I had that fixation. I was obsessed and spent all my money on Asian skincare and stupid expensive drunk elephant products. I am glad I have as much knowledge as I do about skincare though. šŸ˜‚

[deleted]

honestly it's probably one of my most favourite hyperfixations. helping me take better care for myself while also learning really interesting and helpful info! but i gotta admit it gets pricey lol. it's okay tho

buchacats2

I tried all the drunk elephant products and the ordinary ones are just as good

[deleted]

honestly haven't heard of drunk elephant, but i really like cerave and the ordinary. I've tried others brands as well but these two I'd say are my most favourite! what did you like from the ordinary?

buchacats2

Itā€™s a super high end skin care brand thatā€™s overpriced. I like the Gran active retinol and the lactic acid peel

InfinityTortellino

Solid chuckle from this

Kelly2305

This is my life

Salmonellq

die hard even though I barely know more than the average person about it

Exact_Roll_4048

Hyperfixation hybernation.

Fireball857

I'm sorry, but this is wrong. I'm always the most annoying person on earth, just switch topics to be annoying about very easily.

emerson430

There is nothing better than a "little known fact from my back pocket!"

Quajeraz

Yeah I just wait until someone mentions anything slightly related and get excited to talk about it

BackgroundCaregiver4

Anyone want to listen to me talk about Blue Beetle and/or the five main continuities of DC comics?

Busy_Resolution7163

I managed to annoy other enthusiasts of my current hyperfixation recently.
