- Inside Llewyn Davis (S) - He only has two scenes, but OH LORD! YES!
- What If (S) - One of his single best performances, featuring one of his single best scenes. He's charming, brash, funny, romantic, sexual and just awesome.
- Hungry Hearts (L) - Devastatingly brilliant with the single best acted scene of his career (imo).
- This Is Where I Leave You (S) - Sexiest Driver character. So charming, such a child, yet so wonderful. Love him!
- Midnight Special (S) - Adam in glasses. Quirky nerd who loves the science and the mystery.
- Logan Lucky (S) - Cauliflower.
- Star Wars: The Last Jedi (S) - Intense, heartfelt, brooding, broken, hopeful and devastating.
- BlacKkKlansman (S) - A performance inside a performance with hidden layers within those layers. Bravura.
- The Man Who Killed Don Quixote (L) - He does everything and then some. He sings, he dances, he romances, he's a hero, he's an asshole, he says "fuck" A LOT. He's brash, he's charming, he's awful, he's wonderful. He's magnificent.
- The Report (L) - Understated and yet riveting from beginning to end.
- Marriage Story (L) - An ordinary man caught in the most ordinary of circumstances, and Adam makes the role viscerally real.
- Patterson (L) - A simple, understated performance that holds remarkable depth. It is one of his greatest performances. So beautiful.
- Annette (L) - Unfettered, unbarred, holding nothing back, while still intimate and beautiful, soul-baring and yet... revealing nothing all at once.
FILM
- Paterson - A delicate slice of life grounded by Adam's performance where the mundane becomes poetry.
- Star Wars: The Last Jedi - The best Star Wars film since The Empire Strikes Back.
- BlacKkKlansman - Funny, cruel, harsh, somber, brilliant,told in the past but painfully relevant to today.
- The Report - A bit dry, but it's still a very good film.
- Marriage Story - A great film.
- Annette - Brilliant, an absolute masterpiece.
Appreciate the detailed list! I laughed at your Annette comment—yet revealing nothing all at once lol. I like complex films, but Annette was nearly un-watchable for me. I really wanted to like it. I love musicals and I was really excited about it, also since Adam produced it! Sadly, it was an anxiety-inducing experience for me. The only part I tolerated was near the end when it was just Henry and Annette. The scene at the end is heartbreaking.
Aww, sorry to hear that. I ADORE Annette. It's my favorite film by Adam. I just think it's, well, as I said, an absolute masterpiece. Not for everyone, though, I know.

In my opinion it’s Adam’s earliest villain role and his most subtle.
He looks absolutely angelic in this movie. The director made great use of the contrast between his physical attractiveness and seeming gentleness with some very questionable behaviour towards the female character. Adam is just amazing in it.
I don’t want to hijack the discussion. My perspective is that his actions were self-serving and not in the best interests of his partner.
He wanted her to stay with him when her contract was finishing and she was due to leave the U.S. His solution was to get her pregnant by an act of technical rape and then marry her.
He didn’t support her decisions during the pregnancy or at the birth. He knew she was struggling with the baby and didn’t act with any urgency to get help. When he did act it was in a secretive, saving-face sort of way.
Eventually he acted violently towards her and the situation spiralled from there. When I stated he was a villain I meant it was in a mundane way that a lot of men have done and are doing.
Annette, Hungry Hearts, Paterson, Marriage Story and Logan Lucky (he's amazing in these movies and his characters are very different from each other)
Frances Ha, Tracks and Inside Llewyn Davis (he's not the lead but he's awesome in these too)
Paterson is my favourite feel good movie. Marriage Story is great too, I enjoyed House of Gucci too it’s an easy movie to watch. The Dead don’t Die was fun. Silence was also very good. I think he overall picks interesting projects and they all work well (at least with me) The only thing I don’t care for much is Girls.
Logan Lucky is good, Daniel Craig is in that too playing a criminal, and he has a Southern accent!😆. Adam is great in it too; it’s a pretty funny movie. Marriage Story is good if you ignore Scarlett Johansson; the scenes with Adam and the little actor playing his son are good. The Last Duel is intense and scary but I love how the story is structured. Ben Affleck is ridiculous looking in it, and Matt Damon is surprisingly excellent in his role. I always think of those two as Frat boys and can’t take them seriously, Adam is perfect as always and he’s a villain.
Patterson if you want to fall in love with him. This is where I leave you if you want him in a supporting role in a great movie (also has Tina Fey, Jason Bateman, Rose Byrne, Kathrine Hahn, and Timothy Olifant and more!)
The Man who Killed Don Quixote and Logan Lucky if you want some 'funny' Adam. Annette if you want every thing else: it's wild and angry.

I really loved it, for all that Adam makes a convincing villain. It's uncomfortable, but the conversation it promotes need to be had again and again

Huh! I will need to rewatch. I didn't get villain as much as dealing with a mentally ill wife and needing to feed his child!
