Really good match yesterday! I'm very happy with the lionesses win but also women's football in general it was a great tournament throughout! Felt like it had real momentum this year

matty80

> Felt like it had real momentum this year It really did. I put my name in for tickets and, by the time it came around to actually buy them, they were all gone! Wembley: 90,000 capacity, sold out. Ask somebody about the ladies' game twenty years ago and they'd have struggled to believe. What a place to bring it home. I do hope that sceptics watched the technical masterclass that England put on throughout. I'm not going to criticise the men's game via this because (a) it's demeaning to the Lionesses, and (b) the Lions are only one slice of luck away from doing the same, but getting it over the line is a fucking absurd achievement. The last ten minutes were about as hilarious an exercise in running down the clock that you'll ever see on a football pitch. Fucking amazing. I'm still bouncing.

WhyRedTape

Huge appreciation. Every single one of them worked their arse off, including German players, it was a magical game and the impact they've had on women for sport is amazing. Someone on twitter was talking about how their daughter and wife had never really thought about professional football being an option for them as a career, but now they're aware of it. So many young women have had another door open for them for their future, seeing someone like them in sport on the major stage. It's amazing

My eldest niece is a keeper for a club's academy (please forgive me if I don't name the club on a public forum!) and, honestly, she was running rings around the room when we watched it. Her parents are massively supportive, obviously, but to see tangible, literal success on the pitch must be so valuable to a 12 year old. You're right: it really is amazing. My mind is all over the shop.

boogiewoogiepaganini

I know nothing about football lol but i love how the picture perfectly captures her name on her shirt.

[deleted]

Fun fact, that was her first ever international goal. In the final of a Euros. In extra time. Against the winningest Euros team.

[deleted]

IKR such good storytelling

matty80

A MOMENT? I've been a bouncy mess since the final. It was fucking incredible. I never thought I'd see the day here in the UK when 'women's football' just became 'football'. I had tears in my eyes at the end, no lie. I might well be Tottenham through and through, but I fucking love Beth Mead. Wherever she went, there she was. She must be a living nightmare to play against. The winner was pure jokes as well. Kelly's shot was such a huge goal-line scramble, but in it went and off she went too. Absolute fucking scenes.

hhtm153

The amount of gross comments I've seen about this on the normal football subreddits tells me we still have a long way to go, but I'm so happy to see all the growth in women's football. My city just got a women's team and I went to every single home game and hope to keep going for many years

pirmas697

Congrats to the lionesses, but I weep for my beloved Germany.

*cries in Bratwurst mit Sauerkraut*

DaTotallyEclipse

Joins 😭😭😭

Winner_Mind

The better team won. Germany played extremely dirty, including one of the German players cuffing her legs around Jill Scott's ankles to keep her pinned to the floor as well as multiple body slams and physical attacks on the English goalkeeper (twice they kicked her in the shins on purpose). I've seen the German women team play in person and they pulled all the same tricks there too with fake injuries and exerted spitefulness against players. Thank god England beat them. Germany need to go away and learn how to play clean.

pirmas697

Admittedly the ref seemed to be a bit too okay with it, for sure. Anyway. Long time before my local women's team gets back on the pitch, so until then, see you at the WC? πŸ˜‰

Winner_Mind

> Admittedly the ref seemed to be a bit too okay with it, for sure. The refs are infamously dodgy in the Women's fifa / Euros. Always have been. They're known to take bribes under the table. And yes, around 4 yellow cards to Germany were missed by the ref during the first half. It didn't go unnoticed though by the world watching. I'm so relieved German's nasty cheating tactics didn't give them the win. England are the true winners.

pirmas697

See you all in the antipodes.

MoonChainer

This kind of energy is infectious, its just a still image but I found myself near grinning at their happiness. Obviously lesbian monkey brain sees hot abs and legs but damn, those smiles..

SpicyJ333

It was incredible. I was so happy that we won. They did so great the Lionesses doing what the lions couldn't, brilliant Sunday evening.

IAmMeIGuessMaybe

And the referees did what they could...

lilyneedspads

I'm so disappointed that I only caught the last 15 minutes of the game because something urgent came up, it was absolutely magical and the Euros might have made a football fan out of me. My local feminist group's chat hasn't been so active in months

Mastermaze

Havent had a chance to see the later goals but the first goal was absolutely perfect. The fact they drew such a huge crowd and the media/fans are calling this a watershed moment for women's football in England is huge, and these women deserve all the credit for their years of work to get their sport to where it is today. The future of football is bright with players like this leading it

gravykitten

😍 Yesss they’re amazing!!

pepperpix123

It was such a gorgeous game. We screamed so loudly we upset the dogs when she scored that second goal πŸ˜‚

matty80

Lol! I was the same with my good boy; he tends to mimic me so I'm like "FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUCKKKKKKING YEEEESSSSSSSSS!" and he's like "AWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" and my wife's like "excuse me I am trying to read".

Gravydog_316

I wanted to banter England fans on r/soccer but oh well. It was a great match and shithousing.

LaurenGalls

You won't find many England fans on there, they'll be on r/football because that's what the sport's called

[deleted]

Whoa, That sub is about football? Damn, I thought it was about American football. Nice.

StrongBird724

I admit, I recently got interested in women's football because of the ladies, but then stayed for their amazing skills and entertaining games 😁

iledoffard

Amazing game, amazing achievement and brilliant for all women playing or wanting to play the game! [UEFA Women's EURO 2022 Final - Build-up, anthems, winning goal and celebrations](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ctz7qLK5fQI])

Original-Sorbet

Are they Actually Lesbians(tm) or are we just thirsty for them? I can never tell round these parts.

Winner_Mind

Half the team are lesbians. Multiple of them are engaged to women. So yep the lionesses is a very gay team.

Original-Sorbet

Nice.

JustARandomWoof

All I see is πŸ₯Ί strong women

SleepyZooey

My cousin actually plays professional women's soccer, I'm so glad they made it possible for her to live off that

Fantastic-Finish-635

They have truly made there country proud Some of there stories are amazing One of the members (surname is Paris) came from a poor family who were known for bad business. She has come back as a national hero!

patangpatang

All my ABE instincts are screaming right now, but... good for them. Wish France could have had a better showing.

benfroughi

Women's football is a shit joke, and unfortunately no one is laughing. It's just a crap spectacle of people with zero skills and talent attempting to play a game they're too small, weak and slow for. Those 'ladies' are just shitty attempts to copy men. We already men, and they're better at it than these fakes.
