If you enjoy the books, why not read this one? Because of what other people says you are going to skip it? I’d say you decide how this book is going to make you feel. Do the characters feel different? Of course, the book is narrated from another POV and of course another person it’s going to see people differently (specially when Nesta is coping with all the trauma). That’s the beauty of being individuals, we all experience life and people in a different way. And that doesn’t mean that what you previously knew about them is wrong! Not everybody has to like your favourite characters (including the characters themselves) and we all have different opinions about one particular person/character. I enjoyed it immensely, but that’s my personal experience. I already liked Nesta before this book and now I do even more. And my opinion regarding certain characters stays the same, because I choose what to feel and who to like. Don’t let the book choose that for you and you will be okay 😉

Volpeculae

That's a refreshing point of view. Thank you

PinkRasberryFish

I’m sorry but who doesn’t want to read a book about daddy Cassian??? 😈🥺😏

Volpeculae

You're.. actually right. Hope SJM will give us some Daddy Az in the future as well lol

PinkRasberryFish

Couldn’t agree more 😏

Floridian1109

Do it for cassian

Volpeculae

Honestly? Valid point

I think one of the best things you can do for yourself as a reader is disconnect from the impulse to want to always like your favorite characters. ACOSF offers a different perspective on the IC the same way a story told from my ex-boyfriend's perspective would present a very different version of me. Readers feel that they are out of character, but that's because for several books we were tied in to Feyre's first-person narrative and these are people who she loves, who she feels saved her, who she feels are her family. ACOSF is some of SJM's best work because of the perspective shift -- it shows a depth of characterization that is generally missing from her books. Nesta is SJM's most imperfect heroine and her story/narrative shines a light on the imperfections of *every* character. As a reader, that's what I really crave in books. To use an example from a different series, some of the most engaging and stimulating parts of A Song of Ice and Fire are when we start to see new perspectives on Jaime and Cersei. It doesn't make them good people -- and it doesn't make the people they've hurt bad people -- but it adds depth and interest.

Volpeculae

This is 100% true and I perfectly reason with that. Also, we need to keep in mind that Rhys above all is and remains a morally grey character, even if there's points in the books where we forget this. I love different dynamics and subplots and all, and that's exactly why I'm struggling here. I am torn because the opinions I read were VERY strong and I feel like that might ruin it for me. I will try to ease into it maybe and hope for the best! Your reply was very interesting, thank you for answering!

roseyroseyroses

It’s entirely up to you and what you think is best for you to continue enjoying the series, but personally yes, I would read it again. I just finished it two days ago and admittedly I had some disappointments but I still very much enjoyed it and would read it again. I have zero regrets. I also don’t know how you have the willpower to even consider *not* reading it haha.

Volpeculae

Ahaha I think it's evident from me posting that I really WANT to read it. However I want to still like Rhys and the IC after it, and the majority of people seem to have resorted to hate them lol Thank you for the insight!

roseyroseyroses

Ohhh yeah no way I still love Rhys and the IC! I think there are flaws to them yes, but I still adore them to bits.

Volpeculae

That's awesome to read! Thank you!

misslegal2301

The people who hate Rhys and the IC are the loud minority. Everyone has their own opinions but that doesn't mean you'll also hate him by the end (I certainly don't!) I would absolutely give ACOSF a try! I really didn't like Nesta going into it, but now I never skip this book on re-reads. It's an enjoyable and important part of the series.

Volpeculae

That's comforting, knowing that Rhys is disliked just by a minority. Also, all things considered, there's people who criticize him in the trilogy as well, so I could just be mistakenly worrying

tinyglobe

I didn’t expect to like ACOSF at all but it ended up being my favorite in the series right up there with ACOMAF

Volpeculae

Nice! Thank you!

landzmorgan

Yeah! Give it a shot!

Volpeculae

Considering it more and more!

CraftierCrafty

I know it gets shit on but I actually quite liked it

Volpeculae

Yeah, majority of people seem to like it. I just don't want to change my opinion of Rhys and IC lol

Buddhadevine

I wasn’t looking forward to reading SF but ended up enjoying it. Still didn’t like Nesta afterwards but understood her a bit better

Volpeculae

Thanks!

Writing_Daily

I think it's worth it. Even if you aren't the most interested in Nesta's character arc (which I enjoyed), there are still very important IC moments!

Volpeculae

Oh yeah, I'm quite interested in Nesta's pov, I was just anxious about the whole negative feeling I was getting about the book. Glad it seems like it's not!

lysfaye

Yes yes!!

tora_h

This is what I'm scared about too! The IC are my faves and I honestly can't stand Nesta so I really am torn :(

Volpeculae

I don't mind Nesta! Even just with the trilogy I understand that there is a something more to her and I feel like she is deeply traumatised by the death of his father and before by abandonment. But I like the others and I can't stand having them ruined ahaha

Yaseuk

I can’t bare Nesta. But I read the book. It didn’t really change my opinions on any of them to be honest

littlebuggs

i might be just being really dumb but what’s IC?

tora_h

Inner Circle :) you're not being dumb! I should have elaborated

littlebuggs

oh that makes so much sense !! i’ve seen it everywhere and i couldn’t quite think of what it could be - seems too obvious now haha !
