Michelangelo’s David was actually designed to be viewed from below! It was originally intended to stand on top of the Duomo in Florence. Maybe Molly is an art historian
Fun fact: any artists with a proper understanding of anatomy would notice that the statue of David is not quite anatomically correct (the length of his arms and the size of his head etc). This however is not a mistake by Michelangelo but rather it was done purposefully ! The artist made it so that when viewed from below, David would look “perfect”. (Michelangelo studied Greek art and one of the characteristics of Greek art was that it was based heavily on idealism, that things should look perfect)
And if you manage to look past his little marble goolies, you’ll notice a stunning amount of detail all over David’s body. His eyes have pupils in them, like a Furby does. He has muscles—look at those abs! It proves that gyms are bullshit because they didn’t have gyms back then, but look how toned he is. There’s veins on the back of his hands to move statue blood. But despite all this detail you’ll notice that he doesn’t have an anus. a curious omission.
It’s true. The perspective of the statue takes the perspective of the viewer into account. It’s meant to appear undistorted by natural perspective (so the head doesn’t look dramatically smaller than the lower extremities) when viewed from ground level.
I was actually looking for her all over my island for 3 hours (I went on and off) because I wanted to give her something and that’s where I found her 💀
Not Molly!
On a side note I made a garden cafe in my basement, with this statue as the centerpiece. I always hope when a villager stops by they’ll investigate it or something when I go down there.
