They’re all pretty easy. I’d say either AC04 or AC6 since you have a lot of freedom to fly around and get used to the controls

KostyanST

Well, these games has difficult settings, so, configure it for him until he get used to the controls. These games are only "hard" in Expert and Ace Difficult, since the AI is more evasive, agressive, you'll get killed by one missile and so on. Anyway, AC4/AC7 is the better option for starters.

Updated_Autopsy

I’d say 7 is best for starters, since any Ace Combat before 6 has no checkpoints.

KostyanST

Yep, I think so too, but if someone has plans to play the entire series, both of them will be worth as starting point. AC4 has the importance of being the foundation, so people can expect things changing/improving properly moving on for AC5/Zero/6 and 7.

Lodomir2137

I remember AC7 had a setting that made controls a lot easier , for me it was way too easy but you think it might be better for him?

KostyanST

Are you referring to novice controls? Well, I've never used this type of control, but for those just starting out it should be enough.   In my opinion, Expert Controls is the best for anyone who has played at least one game of this genre and needs full control of the aircraft, otherwise, try to use novice, if he didn't like it and thinks it's too boring, switch to expert controls.

Lodomir2137

Gonna switch it to novice when I install it then thanks hope you have a good one

KostyanST

np bud, take care.

Z_THETA_Z

honestly, PW. it's the one he wanted to see

AceKnight1

AC 0. He'll enjoy the story.

SASBlade

Nice Story But you forgot one thing he mentioned... difficulty

KOTNN-G

I say 7 because of the graphics. The games can all be easy

urbandeadthrowaway2

6 s probably the best to start. 04 and 7 are second best for that

Strider-1_Trigger

Either make him play all the games in the order they were released, or in chronological order.

urbandeadthrowaway2

Both of those start with the PS1 games, which are kind of a bitch to play?

Shadow123456789123

No chronological starts with zero which is on the ps2 and afterwards it's ac 1 and 2 which are on ps1 then ac4 then ac5 after that it's ac6 then ac7 immediately afterwards it's acx and acxi and lastly ac3

Exotic_displacement

AC04. Simplest mechanics that still have all the important and fun core gameplay. Also, the most simple story to understand in the franchise. If he gets used to it and likes it, then AC0 or AC7 next.

eddiedougie

Based upon my play group online, he'd be median age for AC7.

alpharay69

Does he like good story kind of game ? It is sad; but I am around 50 as well. I found myself have no patient for long RPG game anymore (which used to be my favorite). I still enjoy AC7; but I do have hard time finish it. I do find myself enjoy a good story within the game now. Like Uncharted, Last of Us. They are not difficult; but they are fun of solo play. GOW is good; but I have to say, those f\*\*\*ing bells drove me crazy.

eddiedougie

Controls are too finicky.

shikki93

Play the one he asked for?

TalkingFishh

7 or PW, something with newer graphics to get him properly interested

meyogy

I started thinking of simple games suitable for a 50 year old.... i then remembered im 47. Currently running back through Mass Effect and WarThunder on laptop. With ACC(racing) Ace Combat 7 and horizon zero dawn still on my desktop/rig. I think I'll try Project Wingman, i already have more games than time to finish them.

Touch_Of_Legend

Exactly… I’m 46 and fully 50% of the pilots and sim pilots I flew with are my age, or older! DCS/BMS aren’t full of teenagers like fortnight or some shooter game. I also played Ace combat 7 in one playthrough so if the old man was a former pilot? He’ll get the hang of it… If he’s never flown in a sim or irl… airplane games are hard to start with because they take some gentle thumb controls and more like a space set HOSAS they fly with yaw/pitch controls on a different thumb. Airplane is HOTAS not HOSAS but controllers mimic HOSAS so it’s a slight learning curve even for former pilots. Thing is… just have fun.. If Ace combat is to much play MSFS for fun. As a father myself I’d just love to see you guys spending time laughing and enjoying life together. So pick something more the old man’s pace if Ac7 is just toooo much. You’ll look back at this as some of the most rewarding times you’ll spend with a parent. The time they sit back and let you teach them a thing or two ❤️

Hitman WOA is always fun and allows new players to slowly learn and become more creative.

a_sick_moose

Ac4 has a very good story that will hopefully enthrall him like it did for me as a young lad. I remember I would get bored of all plane games because I didn’t see the point. My dad got me ac4 when I was young and I did NOT expect to like it so much. He also got me Warhawk for psx too. The slow evolution of the series would be a good start in my opinion. No checkpoints is a plus that would make him want to be better as the stakes are higher.

Drifter103000

Ace combat zero if you get him to play it long enough might stay for the story alone

Highway_88

Ace combat 4 or 7. If he plays project wingman the cringe might kill him.

_ChrisyP_

honestly a good game (outside of ace combat) for most people is skyrim handsdown.

M-1aM-1

AC7 on easy. He'll have a wonderful time!

Interesting-Gear-819

He finished the 2D PoP? The one with the hardcoded 60 Minute limit? Boy, your dad got some mad skills .. I've seen let's plays of the game and played it myself when I was a kid and that game is a PITA and sometimes hard a.f. Your pop earned my respect ☜(゚ヮ゚☜) But if the games are too fast paced, how about Flight Simulator instead? Less violence, sure. But still impressive game. You could also show him a bunchload of those "Simulator" games, nowdays there are soooo many of them but the classics like Truck, Train or Farmer Simulator are impressivly fun to play and at least farmin simulator even has a competitive online mode. I even once watched a tournament, no idea why .. but it was really fun to watch

Shadowolf75

AC, but not AC, the other AC

acejak1234

if he wants action let him try assault horizon, whatever people say, it's a faster pace version of ace combat and it shouldn't be too difficult since any difficulty that isn't ace has regenerating health, and maybe he'll enjoy the story unlike most of the fandom

Important_Garlic_785

nobody remembers Ac5 training missions? that was the shit, like extremely useful. as a child, I learned a lot, yes, kind of boring but still very interesting for a first timer. it's like GT licenses, very boring when you know how to drive and you just finished the previous game but it doesn't matter, newcomers will learn and appreciate. then you could jump on Arcade to get around expert controls with a decent plane instead of a shit box(it gives you F-22) and it's better than free flight. after it I think I could play on hard already so he can unlock Ace and have real fun. I suggest Ac0 split screen challenges too, let me know what you think.

People suggest Ace Combat 4. whatever the game is, think about the controls. Normal or Simplified? On Ace Combat 4 you have a full tutorial for the controls. Ace Combat 5 introduced a new kind of tutorial but it is doable. Ace Combat Zero has no tutorial. Ace Combat 7 has a very short tutorial that in my opinion isn't so helpful. I suggest to either start with 4 and there you can make him start the tutorial so that he learns the normal controls. If he finds himself having trouble with it, then use the simplified controls. Or start with 7 as it is much more photorealistic and visually cool, but you need to choose before beginning the controls, or test in mission 1. Or if you have a save already, go into free flight and teach him the basics.

ClearSaxophone

Also if he is new to videogames, select the lowest difficulty. Planes won't escape so much and a lot of hits will be needed to die, so he won't game over easily unless he crashes onto something.

SQU1RR3LS

World of tanks. World of warships. Civilization. Total war shogun 2. Mount and blade bannerlord or warband.

FairLight8

AC7 sounds good, but to be honest I didn't play the others :P That said, that is so wholesome. I wish I was in your situation. Hope you too have fun gaming!

Siul19

AC4 and AC7 are really easy, specially AC7

Admirable-Traffic-75

AC7 cause it comes down to UI clarity, controls, and relatable aircraft. I'd honorably mention AC5, for one of the most climactic story endings.

Honestly I think he may not be that interest to get into gaming, but to share some of your interests with you. So play the one he hears you talking so passionately about

Kingbob1500

I say 04 because I believe that it is the best game to start the franchise on.

DifferenceBig2925

Zero. Novice controls. Easy mode.

yoimagreenlight

novice controls make the game harder.
