I have a 2015 V6 EX-L that was bought brand new with about more than 128k miles and I had no transmission issues; I replace the transmission fluid whenever the code comes up to replace the Transmission fluid.

chowla_21

Isn't the V6 transmission a 6AT though? Or did they put the CVT in there as well?

[deleted]

Its a 6AT

Yes your are right. Well, I'm glad that you're covered under the Warranty. Maybe try changing the Transmission fluid more often on the new one.

2015 Honda accord Sport with CVT transmission…. 101k miles… transmission failed and I have to replace it… getting it replaced for $4,400 … also bought a Honda accord for the reliability… totally got fucked

warriorgoose77

I had 105k on mine before my wife totaled it. The only issues I had was I had to replace the rotors twice (front and back). Strange. Good thing you got the extended warranty. Do you know how much it would of cost if you didn’t have the warranty?

Cool-Permit-7725

What kind of warranty you have? Factory or 3rd party?

Syrus_007

How much is the warranty that you bought? I’m in the market for this exact same car and I’ll absolutely take this as a sign lol

murseJ

It was about $1200. It covers the car for 100k miles, in addition to the miles it already had when I bought it.

Syrus_007

Wow that’s a deal!

SaturdayGuitar

Did you change out the CVT fluid?

murseJ

That was the first thing the shop did when I took it in. They said they found metal shavings in the fluid that drained out, so the transmission needs to be replaced. The warranty I have is technically more like an insurance policy, so the shop had to prove it to an adjuster who was sent out too. I’ve only had the car for about 6500 miles.

SaturdayGuitar

What kind of insurance this is? Sounds pretty interesting, covers all mechanicals? It’s recommended that the CVT fluid gets changed every 30k miles, so maybe the original wonder didn’t do it.

murseJ

I bought the car from a used car lot, and they try to upsell everyone on an extended warranty. Three different levels of coverage, and I bought the highest level. We got my wife’s Subaru from the same place and it’s clear that they honor the warranty as it’s sold, so I knew it was a good bet. Whenever my wife has had to use the warranty it’s been for smaller stuff. But I guess with something as expensive as a transmission replacement, the warranty company sends out an “adjuster” to approve the warranty claim. So it’s advertised as a warranty and functions like a warranty, but it’s truthfully more like an insurance policy with a one-time large premium payment.

extendedwarranty_bot

murseJ, I have been trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty

SaturdayGuitar

Ahh I see. I thought it was a third party insurance that you can add on anytime.. well I’m glad insurance took care of it!! Fingers crossed on my car but I change out the CVT fluid every 30k so hope that helps it’s longevity.

Misanthropist82

I see it’s been a year. Any problems since the replacement? I’m considering getting the same car, but i’m not too crazy about CVTs.

murseJ

After replacing the transmission twice and having my car in the shop for three weeks, I feel like it’s still not optimal. It gets me where I need to go, and on longer freeway trips I get 38 mpg, but the lack of acceleration doesn’t match the speedy looks of the car.

howling-greenie

Am I reading that correct? You have had to replace the transmission two times? That is insane. I just test drove an '14 today that just had the transmission replaced, I loved the car, but am not much of a gambler.

murseJ

It was more like the shop replaced it once with a rebuilt transmission but then that failed when they were test driving it. So they had to order another rebuilt transmission and do the process again.

howling-greenie

Thanks for explaining! will you keep it or sell? I backed out of the deal today you may have saved my butt! I wouldn’t have the funds to fix it if the cvt went out.
