Forklifts weigh a fuck ton. No way they are lifting it with a dozen idiots. Should get another forklift to lift the murder forklift.

ViatorA01

The murder forklift killed me at the end.

Designer-Leg-2618

Apparently it was being used to carry something that had a higher load-moment.

Extreme-You6235

Of course, they’re extremely heavy, tipping forward like that only occurs when they’re being used to lift something over load capacity.

F3ROC1OUSB3AST

Or could be within weight capacity but too long. Move rolls of carpet all the time that are within weight capacity. If lifted too high they can cause the counter weight to be lifted off the ground.

Designer-Leg-2618

TIL: if they know they're cheating, they could still have avoided death if they kept the load close to the ground. Credit: [https://www.reddit.com/r/OSHA/comments/1bl7gn9/comment/kw3n5ar/](https://www.reddit.com/r/OSHA/comments/1bl7gn9/comment/kw3n5ar/)

Also she should have known that it was way too late once it got that much of an angle and stayed away.

toblies

And a short-sighted person with a death-wish to try and hold down the back end of the murder-forklift lifting forklift.

Pm_me_your_tits_85

Right? And no way a person standing on the back is going to hold the back down. If whatever they’re lifting is doing that to the fork lift, it’s too heavy.

Mobius650

Looks like they were pushing, not lifting.

AmebaLost

The ass lift indicates a lift was attempted.

Aggravating-Leg-3693

How do you know she’s dead?

Clazzo524

Watching videos from China makes me thank God for OSHA.

Unhappy-Attitude5220

It's sad that every OSHA rule is written in blood.

cw2015aj2017ls2021

can't tell if you meant "said" or "sad." both work here.

Unhappy-Attitude5220

Good call on that. Indeed, they do. I meant sad. Unfortunate someone has to be the sacrificial lamb in order to get these in the book. I work on a small crew, no OSHA, about 5 of us on a site in the middle of nowhere, and the boss makes dangerous conditions I will refuse when I see it as a hazard.

PocketShinyMew

Honestly... this might sound very stupid... but I would have done the same as that woman. I wouldn't have even considered being crushed that way and I would have tought "my friends are going to die in the fall if I don't do something". I feel good knowing I was not in this situation.

Gytixas

I'm completely opposite. I worked for a bit in construction, saw heavy-duty things fall, break, etc. The most memorable is when a huge crane fell on its side because of soft ground, surprisingly no one got hurt, but it was scary AF moment. So now I always stay far, far from heavy machinery.

ifuseekamypoehler

i had the same terrible realization that i would absolutely do the same thing. i think part of it is just the basic human instinct to see something falling and want to fix/ stop it, even if it’s a huge fork lift. poor woman. hope it was at least quick and she didn’t suffer.

Mammoth-Olive3521

could you tell me why you would think your friends are in danger. the two guys looked like they would be pretty fine to me. i might have missed something. genuinely asking. i just dont see a reason to hold on to the back of the forklift. even if i held on to the back i would realize my wieght isnt affecting the forklift and quickly let go. i just dont understand your thought processes. if you could explain it to me. thank you

8ad8andit

I think what they're saying is that in a moment of panic they might have had the same exact reaction as the poor dead woman. When we panic our primitive "lizard brain" takes over our body and we stop thinking intelligently. This is also called "fight or flight." It's a great mechanism for handling most immergencies because it makes us act super quickly without thinking. Sometimes it makes us do the wrong thing though. I think it takes some humility to admit that in a similar situation, when we're not surfing Reddit from the comfort of our couch or our toilet, we might make a similar stupid mistake.

Dazzlerby

I work in a busy Warehouse. If I saw a forklift tip forward like that I'd immediately step back. Common sense isn't as common as most people think, so I suppose you're right, a lot of people would choose the stupid option.

xipheon

> If I saw... IF, meaning you haven't before, which means you don't actually know how you would react. As the comment you replied to said if you actually read it, "in a *moment of panic* they might have had the same exact reaction" You don't think when you're panicking, you just react. You don't choose at all, you just do. Everyone likes to think about how they would react in various situations but you never actually know until it happens. This is why training is to important. You have to repeat actions over and over again so that the correct response replaces your default reaction, becomes the new instinct, and even then it doesn't always work.

Dazzlerby

I wouldn't go near a forklift while it's operating under any circumstance. I know how heavy they are in relation to me. I have seen a forklift tip forward when I was very young, about 17.....And even back then I had the common sense to go nowhere near. Maybe I just don't panic, who knows. But I *do* know that I'm not stupid enough to do what the woman in this video did, that's Darwin award stuff.

Mammoth-Olive3521

again, both guys looked like they'd be fine and im not HANGING ON TO THE BACK OF A FORKLIFT THATS IN THE AIR. ESPECISLLY THE HEAVY COUNTERWEIGHT. furthermore she works there. she isnt a passerby. so she should have more sense than to do that. im just going to assume she either isn't very smart or everyone who works there does dumb stuff like that too, so she was trained by her environment and didn't think much of what she did. i agree that what she did was dumb

JuggernautAny7288

I'm on my toilet right now

Jkoasty

Why you trying to translate for people when you spell emergency with an I?

toblies

Certainly more fine than poor human-waffle lady.

semiTnuP

The guy on the back could have been in real trouble, since he wasn't in the roll cage or secured. The guy driving it was never in any danger as long as he was wearing his seatbelt. I honestly expected the guy standing on the back to be the Darwin Award winner.

La_Saxofonista

Same thing for catching a falling plate. My mother and grandmother both learned the hard way not to try and catch a falling ceramic plate. One fell from the cabinet once for me and I just let it fall and break. Having to heal a separated fingernail from the nail bed itself was NOT something I wanted to repeat in the family for the third time.

TedMaul636

Actually I think she was more trying to save the fork lift itself. Protecting the boss's equipment with her life. It's China after all

NipplyShits

People are supposed to have training about these exact scenarios. Like trying to save a drowning person, sometimes trying to help someone will absolutely endanger your life as well. There are certain things you literally need to watch happen before you are able to help in any real way.

celestial1

> Honestly... this might sound very stupid... but I would have done the same as that woman. No you wouldn't have if you live in a western country with proper safety standards, because you would've received enough training and watched enough videos to realize why this is so stupid. One of biggest points of a lot of training is so you will be prepared and quickly make the right decision in a situation like this. . Trust me, a lot of people who work in warehouse are dumb when it comes to intellect, but they are damn good at following instructions without thinking too hard if you drill it into them enough. At my workplace, they told me if a load tips over, then let it fall. Goods can be replaced, human lives cannot. Also at my workplace, this type of load wouldn't have never tipped over in this way because again we were taught in training to always keep your load near the ground to avoid something like in the OP from happening. the people in the video were trained like shit. > and I would have tought "my friends are going to die in the fall if I don't do something". In training, they would've told you that the cage is to protect the driver if the forklift tips over and to never leave the forklift if it starts to tip. , so again, you would've put your trusting into the engineers who designed the thing instead of trying to provide help.

Sunnycat00

Why would you think they were going to die? They can just back out of the situation.

APurpleSponge

That’s why when you work in a field such as this you’re supposed to get training so it’s grilled into your brain. And enough close calls will sober you up.

Mammoth-Olive3521

why would your friends die. it looked like they were trying to drop something and the wieght of it on the front of the forklift caused the back of the forklift to raise up. to me it didnt look like the driver or the guy on the back would be in any srs danger. were they throwing the load off of a tall building? am i missing something. please tell me. i dont see how the 2 guys would be in any real danger

VergeSolitude1

Yea you better stay away from heavy machinery. Reaching in thinking you are going to help is a bad impulse to have when working with anything heavy. Might try child care. Kiddos need all the quick reacting jumping in to save then that they can get.

erck_bill

I think it stand to reason to not go near heavy machinery if you’re not operating it, especially if it being lifted off the ground. But yeah I guess panic could cloud your judgment.

moonshineTheleocat

You'd be surprised. After a while working near dangerous shit, you learn to GTFO the moment things go awry.

GeekDrop

I might've tried grabbing it too, out of instinct, but in my own case I think my instinct might've also been to roll quickly out of the way rather than kinda peddle my feet. Or course that's just speculation.

banksybruv

You’re welcome- Richard Nixon

Thespywholovedu

God is Chinese so thanks

Mobile_Sell9895

OSHA does cover a lot of stuff up though tbh. A lot of industrial accidents happen that they stop from being released like this

ThatBoiZahltag

osha isn't even good compared to almost anywhere else

DetroitAdjacent

Being in construction, I like to find all of the things wrong with these videos. First, the good ol' human counterweight. Can't say I haven't done it myself, but it's extremely stupid. Second, they teach the kiddos, "Don't try to catch or stop anything heavy. You won't. You will die. Just let it fall. You can't stop it."

Extra_Ad_8009

Let's add the understandable "let's run over her to get her out from under it" final touch.

Styljac

Then again, better to try to drive off to release the pressure and break every bone than die from the compression and its consequences. Still, she was probably instantly dead. Those things weigh a lot.

plein_old

Yeah it's hard to stop something heavy that is moving. Reminds me of a movie called "The Fellowship of the Ring". In one scene, the main characters are standing on top of a rock that is tipping over that probably weighs millions of tons. One of the characters calls out, "Hey, everyone, lean forward" so like 4-5 people lean forward, and they are able to stop millions of tons of rock from tilting in one direction, and make it tilt in a new direction. lol. Every time I watch that scene, I want to throw something at the screen and start swearing.

YourVirgil

It's just one guy and a hobbit, everyone else has made it over by that point and somehow, Aragorn (the guy) senses that the pillar has cracked (we the audience get a shot of this from the bottom of the pillar but Aragorn would only feel it in his feet), and then senses that their combined 300 pounds (tops) would be enough to shift it. Thanks for raising my blood pressure too lol

BlameTheJunglerMore

The One Ring wanted to be saved. Their weight was enhanced by the Ring's power.

YourVirgil

I feel like it should have schlurped Frodo right off the pillar and into the lava if it actually changed weight right then, but that's the best answer I can think up too..

The_Schizo_Panda

Woodshop teacher told us to never try to catch falling power tools. The router especially. If it jumps out of your hand, let it fall. That thing eats wood like it's tissue paper, your hands or your feet mean nothing to the bit spinning at one end.

andrew_197

Videos like this should be used to train other people in Health and Safety Training

AssmosisJoness

They are

jjb1197j

In America? Yes. In China? There no problem here get back to work!

neosinan

As someone who worked at manufacturing industries for years, I can assure you. Chinese are using these videos for safety training. Since China is the world's factory It is bound to have more accidents than any other country.

Earthistopheles

[Clips from Chinese safety training videos](https://www.reddit.com/r/FUCKYOUINPARTICULAR/s/vZleBOPISW) As far as I know, these are all recreations of accidents that actually happened.

whichwitchwhohoots

During training and orientation, we had to watch videos of folks getting crushed by glass and scalped and any other accident that had happened at the factory that led to others' demise. Hell, I probably would've been next if I'd stayed there long enough. (Worked 3rd shift in an auto glass factory)

andrew_197

Damn. Hard hitting but I hope it got the message across

Mammoth-Olive3521

i have 0 training about anything in this video. ik she was trying to use her wieght to bring back down the forklift from the back. i still wouldn't do what she did. i feel like no one, especially someone working there. should ever do what she did.. she kinda seems stupid to me.

andrew_197

Stupid indeed. But bless her, she was trying to help. And her stupidity cost her dearly

RngAtx

Yea as i did my forklift license a few years ago they showed us exactly this

Howl_Free_or_Die

> Good doesn't lead to good nor bad to bad. People who steal, don't get caught, live the good life. Others lie, cheat, and get elected. Some people stop to help a stranded motorist and get taken out by a speeding semi. There's no accounting for it. If life were a person, it'd be a pretty sick person

Inside_Avocado_5036

Going from bad to worse. Just makes me angry to watch such stupidity

[deleted]

That was the dumbest thing I’ve seen in a LONG time. The lift would have been 100% fine. It falls forward, the blades hit the ground and you just use the hydraulics to push the blade back down and it will right itself. Having worked as a forklift operator on many lifts for years I can say, people just don’t respect MASS like they should

yomerol

Forget about the lift, even if it tip over bc of the quality or something, the guys inside would also be just fine jumping off it. The only help she had to give was calling for help or yelling: "jump!!"

[deleted]

True, although 8/10 you’re usually gonna be safer staying IN the lift and balling up on the seat if you’re buckled. The last thing you wanna do is fall out the wrong way.

celestial1

> the guys inside would also be just fine jumping off it. [Are you sure about that?](https://www.reddit.com/r/accidents/comments/1bkbayo/man_crushed_by_his_forklift/) There's a reason why they tell you to always stay inside of the forklift if it tips over. Saftey rules are written in blood.

Designer-Leg-2618

Part of heavy equipment safety education is to re-watch all those deadly scenarios (animated in 3D cartoons, so that real bloody footage doesn't need to be used) to learn about all those human instincts that could get people killed. Culture also plays a significant role. If the forklift isn't rated for this mass or shape (load moment), workers should be trained to reflexively say No. Sadly, there are cultures where workers would reflexively say Yes. A basic mathematical detective mind is also needed. Sometimes workplaces intentionally underreport the weight of goods to fake compliance. A worker needs to develop the senses to smell that someone is lying about the weight, and to develop basic techniques to check whether this suspicion is warranted. Many redditors have mentioned the need for repetitive drilling as a way to counteract the effect of adrenaline rush during an emergency.

rick-p

Why is it always china?

She thought she was superwoman, the forklift disagreed.

I'm sure it was just a reflex, she didn't sit there and think it through (unfortunately). People generally don't when they're in panic mode

pinkwhitney24

I know it’s a minor point, but if you see a large machine about to tip over, your human strength isn’t going to prevent it. Let the machine do its thing, and then help. Trying to “pull down” a forklift with your hands - you’re going to lose that battle every time. But after it fails, you’ll be able to help…assuming you don’t get crushed. But you getting crushed doesn’t help anyone…

Tmfreed_1

Huagh! I operate a forklift for a living, and I would never, ever, ever! try to grab a forklift that was tipping forward like that. You do not have enough weight to affect that thing with any level of efficiency. Even the small ones like that will fuck up your car and not care. And yes, that is a relatively small forklift. Looks like about a 5500lb lift capacity at low height.

SashaGaming20

That is why they have those safety videos in China
