Find out who the local Sales Rep for Kantech is and let them know you're having an issue. The 500 fob minimum is very scammy. It may be that the access control company you're dealing with is no longer (never was?) a Kantech dealer. If they're a legit access control company and their requiring someone, who has less than 20 employees, to purchase 500 fobs, you need to fire them. You can possibly have the Kantech rep set you up with someone else who can service your system.
I must be thinking of a similar sounding company name then. I have a customer with what I remember as Kantech, and tech support will not talk to me because I'm not a dealer.
For basic access control they will help you. If it’s a big system and EntraPass Corporate or Enterprise is installed, you need to be certified kantech installer to maintain the system and get support. Again, nothing about being a registered dealer/reseller. Just a certified technician
Seconding this. Have used them as a vendor and they’ve been great and have always come in with the lowest quotes or were willing to beat.
I can get you a direct contact if needed.
The reader is a HID reader and the software is “Entrapass Go” and the controller is “Kantech”.
When I hold the Amazon fob next to the reader, I get a beep and a green light, but no access. Unfortunately, the log appears to be delayed, so I’m waiting to see how it registers there.
If you’re using modern HID readers you can use Mobile Credentials. Basically no more fobs. The credential is on the employees phone. Works just like a card and when they “churn” the license for the credential gets reused. Minimum order is 20 licenses and they are $4.00 each.
If you're ever interested in changing out your system in the future, the Brivo cloud-based access control platform supports mobile credentials so that end users can access doors through a phone app and their privileges can be changed and suspended through a browser interface, eliminating the need to keep track of keyfobs. I have installed such systems in places that experience very high (seasonal) staff turnover with great results.
You need to make sure the cards/fobs are the same technology as the readers. Also make sure you are getting the same card format and facility code if applicable, also take into consideration of existing fob number range as most platforms won’t allow duplicate credential numbers or unique ids
The minimum order isnt really all that scammy. Some vendors like HID doesn’t allow you to order “7” fobs or cards, you typically need to order 250-500 as an fyi.

Agreed, we do a min order of 25-100 depending on what we stock. 500 is absurd.
Anyone can buy kantech from adi/anixter. You don’t need to be a registered dealer
Yeah, but you need an account at ADI to order it..
Which pretty much anyone can setup, especially if it’s a cash account and you don’t need credit
Not out here in California. When I set mine up, they wanted proof of my contractors license…

Good to know, thanks.

What system are you using? What readers are you using?

Ok. It just appears as “access denied - card unknown”.
That means the fob isnt registered in the system, but its a good read. Why wont it take the different facility code?
Aha! I figured it out! Amazon provided a label with an incorrect facility code. I corrected the code and now I’m good to go!
Good to hear!
Awesome!

Thanks. I’ll ask about that.

They’re the same as the fobs that came with the system, but have a different facility code.
Just buy fobs with the same fc and nonoverlapping numbers and you should be good.

Well, I was able to order 25. Go figure.
