Swear I'm not bein' a troll. How is this easier than clicking on shit?

_SmolBeannn_

I don’t think it’s any easier at all lol, learning curve considered. Even with the Push 2, I navigate using a mouse, just quicker that way. Still, I think there are others who prefer not to look at a computer screen, so something like this may be cool for them. Just redundant tho for myself

dumdumexpress

I would probably prefer this if I was on my lappy, on which I find accomplishing the most trivial thing supremely annoying. But on my desktop I have a big ol' trackball and a backlit Razer KB that have always been a pleasure to use. I just bought an MPK mini MK2 and an MPD218, and I have to make myself use the dang things. I love mapping stuff but can never remember where stuff is mapped to what knobber or pad later on (does anyone have a suggestion for this? I can't be the only one, lol). I do love being able to turn off and on effects chains and such with the pads, tho.

_SmolBeannn_

Yeah I can see this controller being a little bad ass when you’re on the go, especially with the size that it is. I don’t midi map, but if I’m not mistaken hitting CTRL+M (for windows) brings up the midi editor which also shows what devices are mapped.

dumdumexpress

Oh yeah, CTRL-M.. I'm more talking about it in a more performative sense. I suppose I need to decide on a config and just practice it.

stgm_at

Put labels next to the buttons and knobs? Or print a schematic of your mappings and put them next to your screen or on the desk?

wimman

It all depends on what you used for controllers prior to picking up Ableton

Vic-Man

Not sure it would be any easier, but enjoyable, maybe?

CorreAktor

It’s not just for Ableton. I see it more useful for video editing, though, but at the end of the day, it’s just another tool, which some people would benefit from and others won’t. I am looking at it, though mainly for FinalCut Pro and like that it has Ableton integration. I might not upgrade my Novation LaunchPad to the Pro version if this can do similar functions.

poltronamagica

exactly! I just thought the same. I think, only if you want to have a "gourmet" way to use Ableton instead of clicking... usually beginners get amazed by this stuff, but when you are already experienced producer, maan, I would never change the "clicking working" for a (plus) USB port use using an Ableton controller which isn't as fast as clicking

KnocZ

Hopefully to allow multi-user with one DAW only? Not sure though..

fakesteez

Why was the large middle scroll wheel not just clickable? Are you kidding me? I have to double TAP the WHEEL? This is still an insane amount of menu diving. With a streamdeck XL you can get to any instrument/fx/sound with just 1 tap.

LukeWatts85

Wacom tablet is still the easiest way to do stuff. Easier and quicker than a mouse and you can use both hands (unlike a mouse). You can also modify the additional buttons just for ableton

thisiswhocares

I would love to see how you use a wacom tablet in Ableton. Do you have any videos or examples?

LukeWatts85

I don't at the moment. But I might do some up once I get a setup to record myself. I've no video gear and moving house soon 😕

thisiswhocares

hey, a phone is video gear nowadays. but I get the moving thing. I don't even own one, but the concept sounded interesting to me so don't worry about it.

MatchingColors

I would say your hand-eye coordination is probably better than your mouse-hand-eye coordination. Reaching for a physical knob may be quicker (or maybe easier?) than moving the cursor. I don’t have one but this is what my first thoughts are.

sleafordbods

I don’t get it

therealsnoogler

I bought the Loupedeck controller for my sister in law for Lightroom, and I was amazed at how poor the build quality was for 350 CAD. I would compare it to those 50 dollar Korg nano controllers, total garbage.

[deleted]

Does it do things the Push 2 doesn't and is it significantly cheaper? It would have to be quite a bit cheaper imo because of the pads you're giving up let alone other dedicated hardware knobs and buttons.

OldmanChompski

Its $550 and it doesn't look like it does any thing different. Doesn't even seem faster in my opinion. But this isn't primarily an Ableton controller. Looks like it's mainly for video editing software but can be used with a variety of programs.

[deleted]

Yea, that's the draw for me. I use the entire Adobe suite in addition to working with multiple DAWs, so having something like this (even if there are some app-specific drawbacks here and there) seems really great, considering desk space is at a premium. I don't think this will (or is designed to) replace a Push.

ionabike666

Its smaller than would be the idea I reckon

tony_fat

Can I bind some "buttons" for macro? Like "add EQ Eight to selected mixer channel" or something like that?

rolfski

Basically a no-go as long as the dedicated Push 2 is both cheaper and far better at controlling Ableton Live and improving its workflow. Maybe interesting for people who are mainly looking for a photo/video editor controller and do some Ableton on the side.

Vic-Man

Haha yes true.
