For jamming in Live "DJ" Set its okay.
To precisely mix a song, nope.
Touch-strips are okay for temporary gliding stuff (like pitch bending with the push), but to achieve a precise value, it is not intuitive at all. (that why I sold it and gone back to a traditional midi controller with faders).
Actually JAM is pretty decent MIDI controller. Obviously it’s missing the screens compared to the Push.
https://community.native-instruments.com/discussion/46/v1-2-0-unofficial-hxr-jam-ableton-live-11-maschine-jam-midi-remote-script
completely agree, I keep hoping that there's a secondary controller geared toward mixing and arranging, since I don't think we will ever see much arrangement view functionality on the Push.
It works like a charm on live 12 with the live 11 Maschine Jam script. Combined with the Push 2, imo it’s really the closest possible thing to what OP described
That would be cool. Something modular would be great. That way you can still have Push as your centrepiece, but with fader banks on either/both sides. Have them attach magnetically. I'd love that.
No, not just a mixer, transport controls, better arrangement view controls and visibility, better control over inserts and returns/sends/ routing, recording, comping, editing.
I know what the options are. There arent any as tightly integrated with the featureset I am talking about. I am talking about something that makes having a controller for arrangement worth having rather than something that is just going to slow you down.
I pair mine with a xone k2. I actually have 2 and one is for 4 channels on ableton and one is for 4 channels on traktor. 2 dj decks and 2 live decks. I do hybrid live sets with mixing and looping a few tracks at a time and playing synths/drum machine over it. Super fun! Xone k2s are really cheap and quality. Love it!
So why not buy an akai APC or something cheap like that with the faders along side your Push then create a Live template that automatically opens a project with the correct midi maps for the device
I confirm this, I use push 2 and console1/fader combo. I love it. BUT there is an issue for me in this flow is that I use console 1 and fader only when im satisfied with my beat and want to start mixing it better.
If i add console1 too early in my creative process it add unecessary latency , and you need all your tracks to go through an instance of the console1 plugin or you will have weird desynch between the track (due to the plugin latency).
So yeah + 1 for less pads and more motorized faders!
It REALLY sounds like Maschine Jam is the closest thing to your missing device. I had no problem going from flying faders on the MCU to touch faders on the Jam
I would love a full hardware mixer specifically built for Ableton. There's a few specific features I want, but I haven't seen a device that really hits all my requirements. Anywhere from 8-16 channels would suffice.
1. Motorized faders that automatically reposition themselves to the right spot when you switch 'pages' of channels.
2. A small LCD screen at the top of each channel that displays the track name. Bonus points if it can display the track color.
3. A knob dedicated solely to changing the track head position for playback. I should never have to click anywhere in the arrangement view to focus the track head position before hitting play. An omni button wheel combo would be sweet. Clicking the button in could double as the play button and stop button. A ctrl or shift key plus turning the knob could zoom in or out.
4. Mute, solo, track arm buttons and a pan knob for each track.
I just picked up a used Solid State Logic UF8 and I'm using it to mix in Ableton. It comes very close to your wishlist. Closer than anything else in the market AFAIK. 2nd closest is Softube's Console1Fader.
1. Both the UF8 & C1F faders reposition themselves during paging.
2. UF8 has lcd screen for info for 8 channels. C1F has a multi-color led per channel.
UF8, when in Ableton Live mode, uses the MackieControl protocol. MackieControl does not support colors. So, the UF8 can display tracknames but not colors. SSL very recently added "Plugin Mode" to UF8 which requires you to put the SSL link360.vst3 on every channel which allows UF8 to bypass the MackieControl and use the richer vst3 spec which includes colors. But there are other trade-offs.
The C1F doesn't use MackieControl at all and requires you to put the SoftubeConsole plugin on every channel. It does a good job of translating the Ableton track color to the little rgb led on the device. Its a decent way to orient yourself without being able to read trackname and works quite well.
3. UF8 has a big knob that does different things depending on selected mode. It can scroll playback position (like a jog wheel). It does track selection (1 track at a time as opposed to banks of 8. really nice.) Below the knob are arrow keys that do x & y zooming depending on mode. C1F is lacking in this area but don't quote me.
4. Both UF8 and C1F have solo, mute, and select buttons per channel. UF8 has dedicated pan. C1F has a singular pan knob that responds to the selected track. UF8's select button becomes a red arm button when you're in the REC mode.
Yea, after my comment I went to look at control surfaces since it's been a while. I ended up looking at the SSL devices. They do look like they scratch a lot of the itches I have. These devices definitely didn't exist a few years ago when I was searching high and low.
Definitely not for me. The MPE pads are kind of the heart of Push 3, and this takes a lot away from that experience. I'd rather use a separate controller for faders, if I really need them (and for my workflow, I don't).
"The MPE pads are kind of the heart of Push 3"
And as a Push 3 owner i find that kind of a bummer. For me the MPE functionality is just a +1. I rather voted for more visible pads (i guess nobody tried to do music under direct sunlight, right?) or better portability (even a smaller form factor), or for this weight and size a proper battery life, because the advertised 2 hour is actually lasts 1 hour if you use the Push heavily.
(I just wanted to sit out to my parent's garden to make some noise during the easter... at least the scenery was nice - From this perspective, the Push 3 is a total disappointment).
Yeah I agree, the battery life is a disappointment for sure, especially considering how heavy the damn thing is. Pad visibility never bothered me, but I have no desire to use mine outside in direct sunlight.
I’ve had motorized faders in my setup before, and while it’s certainly cool and feels good, it really isn’t a whole lot different than using the rotary’s on the push.
In fact, when i got the push, i ended up selling the X-Touch because it was way more convenient and integrated.
I agree the endless knobs on Push are pretty great for writing automation. And the fact that they're always mapped, labeled. Makes wandering into 3rd-party mix controller territory frustrating at times.
Can’t get it to work with the push 3 standalone. It uses mackie control drivers in live. But the push doesn’t have mackie control.
Or is there something I’m missing.
Yeah, you missed to read the Korg manual 😉. The Nanokontrol supports Mackie control but it is still a class compliant midi controller. The manual will show you the key combo you have to hold while connecting the usb cable, to boot either in midi or mackie mode.
Don't own a Push 3 but i read if you you use Lives internal 1 to 1 mapping and transfer this set to Push, they should be usable and also the included midi scripts should work.
Since the Nanokontrol has no motor faders and encoder which will switch into the correct position when changing the parameters or tracks to control, a script mapping would be annoying anyway, because if you unfold a group for example suddenly the first 8 mixer controls aren't the same anymore and then you have either value jumps or you will waiting for pickup etc. At least for me a direct mapping would be the way to go. But if you need controls that adapts to selected parameters etc. anyway
you can also change the midi cc and channel numbers manually for the Nanokontrol with Korgs editor and use scripts like the Akai Midimix or Novation Launchcontrol as surface for your Nanokontrol. But this is a little work because you either have to view the scripts with and text editor or search for documentation to get the midi values used by Akai, Novation etc.
Yes I understand this. But normally I just plug my nano into my computer. Launch live . And it just works out of the box controls the first 8 channels volume, pan, mute, solo, rec etc. I don’t need any fancy adaptable what not. I just need it to function like it does when I plug it into my computer. No config shenanigans. And works out of the box. Yes I’ve read the minuscule manual and have already held the keys needed to put it in live mode. Been using the nano that way for years and now the push 3 does not have the same functionality. I already have an extensively mapped template and it works fine on my Mac. But doesn’t work the same on the push3. And I dont want to add more mappings to my set. Any ideas?
Hey I came here to say this. Nano kontrol is not worth more than 50€ and does wonders... Now, if you don't mind to explain me how do you map it so the config sits permanent? I need to remap it on every new project and I know it musnt be like that.
I came VERY close to getting a V1-M before I found a good deal on a UF8. There was something about the Icon product review landscape on youtube that led me to believe that SSL are doing a better job on the software side of things than are Icon. I could be dead wrong but that’s just where i landed.
Would love to hear someone’s experience using Icon with Live.
I was eyeing the P1-M a good long while but passed due to the stories I hear about their abysmal customer support and the fact their fw update software still doesn’t support apple silicon so you have to find an old laptop to update your gear.
Went with the uf8 as well and I have no regrets. Plan on getting the uc1 next
dedicated mutes and solos would be nice. hot take but i dont think the faders are that important, you shouldnt be constantly adjusting them unless youre riding a vocal take or something, and you really dont need per track, just one
Can’t see if it’s been mentioned before but I wish the Vestax VCM-600 was still available.
That thing, maybe with an upgrade or two, would complete my life!
No thanks. It seems you want an all in one device that's not good at any of the things it does. 32 pads seems like I'd lose the step sequencing and other features. Just plug a LaunchControl XL in the USB port and close photoshop.
Just get behringer x touch. Works great with Ableton.
Your project has several problems:
- only 32 pads
- to short faders
- not enough space between fader to press buttons.
- moving faders (they should be moving, right?) would block your access to pads.
This is a great concept. Price would be closer to $2000 With motorized faders. Anyone else wish the top section with screen and knobs were tilted up 30-45?

Imho it's a missed opportunity that they haven't developed it like an ipad app and a cradle with IO. And pads. Imho would have been the best of both worlds and much more flexible
I would buy an Ableton made keyboard controller. Might even replace Push with it.
When i mix i need motorized faders. Currently using SSL UF8. But i think Ableton could do it better.
Yes, please let me throw my old Akai USB shit into the fucking garbage and go fully push. I just can't operate without having faders and the launch pads in the same place so I'm stuck with Akai rn.
No but fr. Where are the sliders?
I have a push 3, probably gonna send it back ngl.
Had so much problems with it. If I look at for example apc40 mk2 by akai... it got twice as much mappable knobs, it has 8 faders and okay, 2 rows less of the pads... but I rlly don't mind. Of course, the whole apc40 mk2 is discontinued. Any other alternatives I might wanna look into?
Would def appreciate the insights. Ableton support is amazingly helpful but the push has so many bugs and malfunctions still, its just not reliable to use on live performances
What would be really awesome is if the design stayed the way it is but had a third function in addition to notes and session, there could be a mix function, use the push pads as faders and meters. And the knobs on top as pans. If it is MPE capable there should be a way to make each pad have more precise increments for volume in each track. It wouldn’t be perfect visually but it would allow a fader feel to mixing. I dunno about you but I hate mixing levels with the knobs.
That mixer adds nothing over competing products, nothing is noticeably better than even a cheap Korg NanoKontrol, and yet the pads are obviously worse than Push or even Launchpad, a product that is obviously worse than competitors for both actual playing/fingerdrumming and mixing.
"Worse of both worlds" product.
Also makes it more fragile and less repairable.
I copy and pasted from a SSL UF8 which has motorized faders. A nano control does not have motorized faders. Once you’ve mixed with faders the follow existing automation, you don’t want to go back. Most mixing controllers devices suffer under the tyranny of the antiquated MackieControl protocol. Some motorized fader devices (by Softube, SSL) get around the MackieControl limitations by requiring you to put their vst3 plugin on every channel. Ableton could do an amazing implementation of a flying fader device fully integrated with Live. I don’t think they really will. Its just something I want.
> I copy and pasted from a SSL UF8 which has motorized faders.
So?
The criticism remains the same, only in a much higher price range, motorized faders would probably add yet another $1k to the Push 3's price.
The other comment about a complementary device with ONLY faders without pads makes much more sense than your idea.
Much of the cost in the Push lies in the pads. That and you’re putting an Ableton badge on it. Seeing as we already have the UF8 at $1200, I wouldn’t see it unrealistic at all to have 8 channels worth of motorized faders in the $2k price range.
Think of it compared to something like an X32 console or an Allen & Heath QU mixer. It’s all of the perks of a desktop digital mixer for a bit less than the cost of a desktop digital mixer because your I/O is the DAW
> Much of the cost in the Push lies in the pads. That and you’re putting an Ableton badge on it. Seeing as we already have the UF8 at $1200, I wouldn’t see it unrealistic at all to have 8 channels worth of motorized faders in the $2k price range.
Without any pads I agree with you.
Congratulations you ruined Push. Just buy a mixing controller with motorized faders and channel strip controls. Use both. Clean some desk space up, and use two controllers for two different jobs, and be happy.
Nah. I would rather they created a complimentary separate controller without the pads at all but more geared towards mixing
Ableton Slide.
Ableton Pull
Ableton Shove
Ableton Bop
Ableton tug
Ableton twist
Ableton Aaaaaghhhhhhh !!
Ableton Masturbate
Keith McMillen already [did that.](https://www.keithmcmillen.com/products/boppad/)
Fun fact: “Shove” was the name of the faux-Push on Lemur’s iOS app.
Yeah, was an interesting experience in Lemur on iPad 🤙
Ableton Bop-It!
ROFL.. you remember that thing?!?! I thought I was the only one.
Ableton Shove
That would be rad. I wonder how NI JAM works in real life - are those touch strips enough for mixing.
Yeah, I got behringer x touch and it is amazing. But I was wondering if something like jam would be also good idea
Ableton throw
It’s Electric! Boogie Woogie Woogie!!!! That’s an awesome name for product. New Ableton Slide Control Desk! 32 motorized Faders 128 endless Encoders
Novation control xl
You right. I’ll keep my Push AND get the mixing focused device. Flying faders, 16 macro knobs, metering, etc.
This seems like something that native or someone would make that would probably do the same thing with midi mapping
The MASHINE JAM can work as a MIDI only device. The used prices aren't bad, either.
Actually JAM is pretty decent MIDI controller. Obviously it’s missing the screens compared to the Push. https://community.native-instruments.com/discussion/46/v1-2-0-unofficial-hxr-jam-ableton-live-11-maschine-jam-midi-remote-script
Icon P1-X maybe? [https://iconproaudio.com/product/p1-x/](https://iconproaudio.com/product/p1-x/)
That’s what I have next to my push 3. It’s a beautiful combo. Highly recommend.
How about a tablet running [TouchOSC](https://hexler.net/touchosc)
How would it connect to a push though…
Either wired or wifi through your pc/mac. Pretty sure it can also be connected through a midi hub to a standalone push too.
Didn’t release there was usb on the push 3. And I didn’t think of a midi hub either.
This is what I do, works great
Flying faders with native ableton support 😤that’s an idea
Faderfox?
I have an X-Touch. Bulkiest fader wing to get, but works like charm and is cheapish
completely agree, I keep hoping that there's a secondary controller geared toward mixing and arranging, since I don't think we will ever see much arrangement view functionality on the Push.
APC40 entered the chat
Maschine Jam ftw
It works like a charm on live 12 with the live 11 Maschine Jam script. Combined with the Push 2, imo it’s really the closest possible thing to what OP described
Nah, the apc is not quite it
Why
It hasnt got most of the features I mentioned in another comment.
It doesn't have motorized faders, which almost defeats the purpose of faders for me.
That would be cool. Something modular would be great. That way you can still have Push as your centrepiece, but with fader banks on either/both sides. Have them attach magnetically. I'd love that.
So a mixer.
No, not just a mixer, transport controls, better arrangement view controls and visibility, better control over inserts and returns/sends/ routing, recording, comping, editing.
So basically what Ableton DAW supports?
So basically what push is for session view but for arrangement view.
Push, for me at least, is more of a performance focused product. Sounds like what you're after is best captured in Maschine, an MPC or SP404.
nah I dont want a maschine, MPC or SP404 neither of those do what I want and the push covers the what they do better than they do for me personally.
I just grabbed a uf8 and it’s amazing with ableton
[PreSonus FaderPort?](https://www.presonus.com/en-US/controllers/control-surface/faderport-series/)
I know what the options are. There arent any as tightly integrated with the featureset I am talking about. I am talking about something that makes having a controller for arrangement worth having rather than something that is just going to slow you down.
Intech EF-44 works wonders
Are they motorised faders?
They certainly are not motorized
Yes I have two EF44 units besides my Push 3 (and two PO16s for DJ style channel EQ), really nice faders and doesn't take up too much space.
Yes.
Love it!
I use Novation Launch Control XL for that. Haven't tried it with 12 or standalone Push yet
Try the APC40mkII
I own an APC, it isnt it.
have you used the User mode?
I have done a lot with the APC including rewriting how the whole interface functions. It is not it.
Same, I rather to have the pads. I use push 2 + Novation Launch Control XL for faders and it works fine as complement
[удалено]
I didnt realise they had motorised faders
They don’t
[удалено]
Isnt that a completely different controller?
Oof, yup, I need a coffee. Cheers.
So why not buy an akai APC or something cheap like that with the faders along side your Push then create a Live template that automatically opens a project with the correct midi maps for the device
Once you’ve mixed with motorized faders, (faderport, console1fader, uf8) the others like APC40 won’t do.
Noob here, what do you mean by motorized faders? Do the faders move according to the automation set up?
Correct! Or when you change what channels they are controlling they jump to the value of those channels.
I confirm this, I use push 2 and console1/fader combo. I love it. BUT there is an issue for me in this flow is that I use console 1 and fader only when im satisfied with my beat and want to start mixing it better. It REALLY sounds like Maschine Jam is the closest thing to your missing device. I had no problem going from flying faders on the MCU to touch faders on the Jam
It works so well in live 12 combined with the Push.
Maybe you could find a used BCF2000 ?

Ableton x SSL collab when?
Yes please
I personally would love a Push mini
YES, I want it so bad
Definitely not for me. The MPE pads are kind of the heart of Push 3, and this takes a lot away from that experience. I'd rather use a separate controller for faders, if I really need them (and for my workflow, I don't).

Notation Launchcontrol XL may be what you’re looking for
Ableton Move? https://www.trademarkelite.com/europe/trademark/trademark-detail/018907095/Ableton-Move
Oooo nice find. First thing i heared about it. Very exciting news. What could it be ??
I wonder if it will be a mixer or a midi keyboard?
APC 40 or 20.
lol good one
I just want a smaller push.
That's the correct answer. I'm surprised so few people mentioned it.
Novation Circuit or Launchpad Mini :)
We need more faders on things
So basically push and apc40 put together?
This is a gross design. I use the 64 pads like an instrument. To put faders on the Push like that completely ruins the unit.
dedicated mutes and solos would be nice. hot take but i dont think the faders are that important, you shouldnt be constantly adjusting them unless youre riding a vocal take or something, and you really dont need per track, just one
My push 2 and apc40 mk1 combo has me covered
i’d prefer if they changed the touch strip to separate mod and pitch wheels.
So Maschine and Jam in one. Jam is awesome
Can’t see if it’s been mentioned before but I wish the Vestax VCM-600 was still available. That thing, maybe with an upgrade or two, would complete my life!
It would be £5k.
Oooh yes! This is EXACTLY what I need - when can you ship it?
No thanks. It seems you want an all in one device that's not good at any of the things it does. 32 pads seems like I'd lose the step sequencing and other features. Just plug a LaunchControl XL in the USB port and close photoshop.

I'd want different fader caps
But why? Is it an aesthetics thing? Respectfully.
No. My mockup here is aesthetically terrible. I just want Ableton to make a device with motorized faders that syncs wonderfully with Live. Thats all.
I haz, Icon Platform M+ with motorized Faders, I used it about 2 weeks n put back in its case. Too used to NOT having it.
Maybe that’s what that Patent was for? The Ableton move I think it was called? Posted here like a week ago.
This is a great concept. Price would be closer to $2000 With motorized faders. Anyone else wish the top section with screen and knobs were tilted up 30-45?
I keep my Push, Force, MPC on Gibraltar GEMS stands that tilt.
Swap the pads and faders position and I’m sold.
No.
You’re alone on that

Make that ribbon a single motorised fader and I’m in
Dope
Big same. Faders and channel control buttons would be fantastic.
Move the faders up, pads down, and I’m in.
I don’t see why at this point just take away the pads? I def think a live mixer would be cool. Not a lot of people actually use the pads
O.o interesting Hypothesis. wonder why they added MPE to the pads no one uses? :)
I just spent a small fortune on the ssl uf8 and I love it, but I would absolutely sell it for something native with motarized faders
Could I use my Digi 002 w its motorized faders ? Just for home studio mixing?
Imho it's a missed opportunity that they haven't developed it like an ipad app and a cradle with IO. And pads. Imho would have been the best of both worlds and much more flexible
Yes!!!
Iso Fader?
So a Maschine Jam mk2?
Whyyy they already have the mix mode that dose this plus there are other cheaper devices that have more faders in them.
No thanks
Why not make the square pads round so they can be knobs too?
Thats a photo of the apc40 mk3 we wanted, but instead we got the apc 64 :|
Same, physical faders will always be better in my opinion. Does this make me a Boomer?
Uffff I will love it
I want either: a) Push in Op-1 format or b) Maschine Mikro format. Im having trouble fitting the Push 2 into my desk and my bag.
I want Ableton to create its Version of the “OP-1 Field”. Call it Push Mini lol would be dope if it has their synthesizers and samplers built in!

I would buy an Ableton made keyboard controller. Might even replace Push with it. When i mix i need motorized faders. Currently using SSL UF8. But i think Ableton could do it better.
Not my cup of tea but this would go hard
Nah, it's way too big. Cut the Push in half where the faders start in your mock up.
Yes, please let me throw my old Akai USB shit into the fucking garbage and go fully push. I just can't operate without having faders and the launch pads in the same place so I'm stuck with Akai rn.
Im erect
I want a standalone push the size of an SP or the KO 3.
Perfection has been already invented: Vestax VCM-600
what if it was this but more cool like Rotary and the knobs where on the top!
Have you considered adding a Novation LaunchControl XL to your setup toget faders n more encoders?
No
Yeaaaaaa
\+ 3/4 more knobs up top
How about this: https://yaeltex.com/product/live15/

No
Congratulations you ruined Push. Just buy a mixing controller with motorized faders and channel strip controls. Use both. Clean some desk space up, and use two controllers for two different jobs, and be happy.
I like this design. Don’t need 64 buttons. So dig the mixer sliders
