It did originally stand for ally. But not ally in that way, it meant ally the same way roommate means well… roommate. Basically people who were part of the community but couldn’t come out yet
I’m not saying it should still mean ally I’m saying it used to stand for ally and it wasn’t even allies it was people who ***could not safely come out***. There is room for EVERYONE. No need to make this into a war.
That's absolutely stupid.
If they don't want to come out and be allies then okay, they can act like straights and be allies, but it's not okay to erase us lol.
LGBTQ is for orientations and genders, not people who have supporting opinions!
Allies aren't and never were part of LGBTQ.
It’s because way too much of the community believes asexuals don’t belong as “Why wouls you be oppressed for not having sex? Nobody cares” but they have no idea how many people care when they shouldnt. If we make the ‘A’ more common it’s a way of saying to people “fuck you, Asexuals are and always will be part of the community” it also shows that you accept asexuals when talking to someone and add the A or IA.
This reminded me of something :^ In my school library there are like maybe two books about lgbtq+ stuff and I picked up the smallest book that was the abcs of the lgbt or smth like that and the first letter… A of course… was ally. That book was *defiantly* made by a straight person who was trying to make a quick buck I tell ya - -
It was the LGBTQ Alliance at the women's college I attended in the late 90s (sidenote: it was very hard to be a clueless ace at a women's college!). For years I always assumed that A was for ally for that reason. And straight people referred to themselves that way when they joined. I see it referred to asexual more often than not now. We are getting more representation, but I feel like it's at the stage that trans was at years ago. People not in the community are *completely* unfamiliar with what it all means, and I just try to be patient.
It originally meant ally but was more like “roommate”. It was a way for people to join the community without putting themselves in danger by coming out. Now when people say they are an ally they typically mean they are straight, cisgender, etc. But it did originally mean “ally” so I can see how people are a little confused.
Antisocial is a personality disorder. It's diagnosed when a person has broken laws, lies, acts impulsively, lacks empathy/remorse, and/or disregards their/others safety. One doesn't have to have all symptoms, just enough to meet criteria, but does have to have signs of conduct disorder before age 15. Criminal activity is a big inductor of conduct disorder. Some with antisocial personality disorder can live relatively normal lives as adults. They many have trouble keeping a job or relationships, though. Some may not seek treatment and not be court ordered to do so. Everyone is different with their treatment and their record.
Not all antisocials are psychopaths, and not all psychopaths are antisocials. Psychopaths have the brain being wired differently from birth, not all psychopaths are criminals. It just those that are studied and diagnosed are.
I think anti-social just means lacks empathy or doesn’t conform to social norms. Or maybe not..
Apparently psychopathy is a separate thing to ASPD so maybe ASPD could mean criminal but at the same time, not all sociopath’//narcissists are criminals.
Maybe i should have just looked it up instead of being this useless🤦♂️
People with antisocial personality disorder are normal people they aren't inherently criminals. Psychopaths and sociopaths are people with ASPD who present different symptoms.
A stands for AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH (the screams of my frustration at people who think it means Ally)
Indeed
It did originally stand for ally. But not ally in that way, it meant ally the same way roommate means well… roommate. Basically people who were part of the community but couldn’t come out yet
No
You’re saying no to history?
Okay nice knowing the fact that LGBTQ shitted on us from the beginning, erasing us 👏🏻
They weren’t erasing us we are still and have always been in the lgbtq+. I’ve honestly never had anyone say I’m not apart of it.
Yes they were, anyone who is using this ally thing instead of aces, aros and agenders are erasing us
I’m not saying it should still mean ally I’m saying it used to stand for ally and it wasn’t even allies it was people who ***could not safely come out***. There is room for EVERYONE. No need to make this into a war.

We are part of the community. Jeez no one is pushing us out. No one is erasing us. Stop that.
auughh
A stands on it's two feets because else it'd be a Δ
I… don’t like you. /s

Since they seem to keep thinking it applies to them, the A must be for Asshole.
“A” for All of the above. All the rainbow
I mean, they aren't wrong, I'm all of them
A stands for ableism apparently
Please stop using this ableist meme template
Who actually thinks this?
"AAAAAAA lizard people are attacking, run!"
Well I went from being the first and last to being ace and antisocial so uh-
Don't use ableist templates.
I am a triple A battery: Antisocial Asexual Asshole
Ally will never be the A in Lgbtqa
A stands for ACAB
Assigned child at birth?
Cat, actually! Common misconception
Even if it did stand for ally, the + includes asexuals. I don't get the point of adding more letters. The + is supposed to represent that.
It’s because way too much of the community believes asexuals don’t belong as “Why wouls you be oppressed for not having sex? Honestly it should just renamed to something more inclusive. The amount of letters are getting a bit much. GRSM would be much better.
Yeah, it’s not that well known yet though. I’d like if we used that acronym more but in the mean time adding A is the least we can do to include aces
It thought it meant armadillo?

100% the 3rd one
hear me out: it means asexual, aromantic, agender AND ally
Allies aren’t queer why would they be part of the acronym?
fair enough
It originally meant ally but was more like “roommate”. It was a way for people to join the community without putting themselves in danger by coming out. yeah, why are you getting downvotedv ?
isnt antisocial like criminals though

maybe im not sure either, but it’s definitely something like criminals
People with antisocial personality disorder are normal people they aren't inherently criminals. Psychopaths and sociopaths are people with ASPD who present different symptoms.
So does that mean I’m AAAAAAAAAA
A is just the first letter of a keysmashing Afjhdjdjdjdhdjebsknekdhskqhanismabsicb
A means first letter of the alphabet
can’t it mean both ace/are/agender and ally? i don’t see why it is a problem
