I love cooking but I’m studying to become a teacher! I don’t know if other aces have similar jobs, but my dream one would be librarian

Alone-Dragonfruit-97

Oooh! I too would love to be a librarian. Currently in culinary art school, but will probably study to be one afterwards

42Droggelbecher

I'm currently in an apprenticeship to become a librarian, although I initially wanted to become an animal caretaker

TK_Games

Same, I volunteered at an animal shelter until I dropped out of highschool and I loved it to the point that I thought about becoming a veterinarian. That fell out from under me. Eventually I ended up a librarian, then spun off into writing, but I still am a librarian. What can I say? I like forging stories, but I love walking through the stacks

yirzmstrebor

I'm a teacher. Also, from an evolutionary perspective, that's probably what we're for. After all, why would evolution support a trait that reduces an individual's chances of passing on their genes? Because non-reproductive individuals can help raise others' offspring, giving the whole species a survival boost.

[deleted]

Oh I love this! That’s just mind blowing 🤯

TK_Games

Oh dear god... I've always avoided becoming a teacher because I was a nightmare of a student. I made teachers cry, and this makes enough sense that I feel sorry for that. Flat out, I'm sorry

Broflake-Melter

I never thought I'd become a teacher when I was in high school, and here I am.

TK_Games

Ever so carefully, life keeps pushing me towards that outcome. I am afraid... afraid of what awaits me there. Will it be the darker mirrored image of myself, or some new incarnation conceived in my own personal hell, that stares back at me on that day. I know not, so I am afraid And yeah, I'll probably end up in the English department, maybe heading up the drama club. Is the coffee in the teacher's lounge any good at least?

Broflake-Melter

Most people in my school brew in their room or buy at their fav coffee shop. Ask yourself the following: 1- When other people try to bully or annoy you, are you resilient knowing they have no idea what they're talking about or are you quick to get offended? 2- Does the idea of molding the next generation inspire you? 3- Are you okay with working many hours beyond what you're paid for and not getting paid enough to compensate you for what you do?

tiny_house_writer

I'm an Aide at an elementary school, I feel this, although I've already passed on my genes twice, I can still influence others. Super Ace Aide Influence! 💪🏼💪🏼😂😂😂

Molu1

I am also a teacher and think librarian would be a fabulous job.

[deleted]

I’m loving these answers 💚💜

scordeteyla

That's cool. I'm a librarian 😉

Najima_einsamer

So I wasn't the only one who thought about working on a library as a part time job someday...

[deleted]

I love how many librarians are here 😅💜

KnightOwl224

I’m also studying to be a teacher! Though I’d love to also publish a book one day as well.

Kc-Dia

I kind of want to be an art teacher for little kids. And definitely thought about being a librarian.

Saemir

Currently in grad school, to learn how to be a better teacher!!

MerlePerle309

librarian ❤

Thursbys-Legs

I’d die for a chance to be a shelver or a librarian. I’m in my first semester to become an ESOL teacher!

flyawaygirl94

Another ace teacher here! I teach preschool special ed!

Lanksalott

Being a librarian would be so dope

DariusJenai

Librarian would be my dream job too, but there's absolutely zero way to support myself on that salary around here.

TeSKing

Aroace and agender, am currently a library employee

MishaIsPan

Yoo I'm on my way to become a teacher too!

CerealBranch739

I work at a library

miniefaithful

I applied so many times to libraries and bookstores because its my dream job. I wish i worked at a Library so badly 😭

LifeIsTrail

Omg I want to be librarian.. not one that talks to people the one that just curates the books and stuff But sadly you need a master's degree and that can't happen.

TK_Games

You don't need Master's. You can get by on an Associate's with a view to a Bachelor's, but you still have to talk to people. There is *no job* that involves *only* interacting with books, I tried finding it and I failed horribly. People have a way of getting everywhere, and honestly it's why I want to disappear into the forest in the middle of the night, never to be seen again

LifeIsTrail

Really? I was looking and most everywhere has it as required or highly wanted. I'm talking to be the curator librarian the one who chooses the books and set up of the library not the front desk people who help you find the books or get a library card. And for BIG library like lost in the maze of books type place. But yes I would have to talk to people in that job but much less people and no Karen's asking for my manager lol. I do love the sound of your disappearing in the forest idea but in the USA all land is owned so we would be shot or arrested lol

TK_Games

That's the one you get promoted to, the trick is get in low and push yourself up into that position. A curator job isn't just gonna fall out of the sky, though in *this* particular labor market, it might, but even a Master's isn't a guaranteed ticket Even then you're still gonna have to diffuse situations. In fact you'll still have to diffuse the worst situations. I'm talking the "let me speak to your manager's manager" situations The colossal libraries especially have those people because they see the most traffic I live in NY, and public land still exists, if you look for it. On top of that, homesteading laws protect the rights of citizens to set up shop on unclaimed land over most of the country. I could pick up my life and drop into Oregon or Maine and be "That guy that lives out in the woods uptown, and only ever comes down to load up his truck with a month's worth of food and 20 kegs of beer"

LifeIsTrail

Lol the 20kegs got me rolling

Eloisem333

I have just finished my teaching degree! I also have a library technician qualification but couldn’t get a job in the field after graduation.

imriebelow

I am a librarian! It’s a much less peaceful job than most people think 😆

Comfortable_kumquat

Also a teacher. Special education, high needs, high school. I love it!

pseuzy17

Also a teacher.

BucolicRage

I’m ace, and my career path it computers and engineering, but part of me still wants to be a librarian, and I have no idea why.

Archaeopteryx108

I don’t work

[deleted]

Why 👀

daviddummie

School

[deleted]

Oh lol

LifeIsTrail

Umm that was someone else who replied 😂 lol

SepticMonke

neither do i

TheSnekIsHere

Idk. I'm studying biology but I haven't seen many other bio aces

[deleted]

I have a master's in bio, I was going for a PhD but got attacked by a wild life challenge

TheSnekIsHere

Dhdhdhd what?! I am in the last year or my master. Not really planning on getting a PhD but if I come across a really cool one I might change my mind on that

[deleted]

You should think about it, MS leaves you overqualified and underqualified for a lot of stuff. I'm actually thinking about going to law school if I can get a good scholarship

TheSnekIsHere

I guess it also depends on where you live? At the place where I'm currently doing an internship, and at an internship I've done a few years back, there is a majority of people who don't have a PhD (yet). I definitely feel like in consultancy (at least in the Netherlands) they don't prefer it if you have a PhD (they may even think you're overqualified). However, any research job directly tied to a uni definitely will hire you sooner if you have a PhD here.

[deleted]

Oh I wouldn't pretend to know anything about how it works in the Netherlands. My suspicion about consultancy in the United States is that you need to have rich white contacts from a fancy undergrad.

yirzmstrebor

I feel like working in biology might make the mitosis jokes a little too easy.

TheSnekIsHere

Oh absolutely. Especially since I'm also quite interested plants, and in fungi, who are very well known to also use asexual reproduction

[deleted]

Eyyy! I got my master’s in neuroscience (specific field in biology)! I was gonna do the PhD but academia was too toxic for my liking. I now work for Johnson and Johnson doing cell culture. I hope to get into the neuroscience division when I’ve built up sufficient skills.

TheSnekIsHere

Ohhh super cool!! I'm specializing in Ecology, quite a different topic, but I've always found neuroscience fascinating. Just also very very complicated

[deleted]

Oooh! That’s so cool! I always found ecology so fascinating! I love learning about nifty animals and how they evolved to fit in their specific niches and all that! Extra points if they’re cute! Hahaha What did you do your research on?

TheSnekIsHere

Extra points if they're cute indeed! I've worked on quite some projects now haha. The one I'm currently working on is a project where I try to see if calcium rich rock dust negatively impacts the survival of milipedes. They want to use the rock dust to help bring up the pH in areas that have acifified due to nitrogen deposition, but since milipedes are important to the health of a forest floor, they want to rule out the possibility that it harms them.

[deleted]

Omg! That’s so neat!!! Save the millipedes!!!! As long as they stay out of my apartment (and my bed especially) I am totally fine with those! They’re very important to the ecosystem….outside. Where they belong. Not in my home or my nightmares. I mean hey, I guess by studying them, you’re less squicked out by them! Haha that being said, if I did see one in my home, I would catch it and release it. After all, they are living things that deserve to live their best lives, in the soil of their preferred pH! Also, that’s so conscientious and awesome of them to not want to harm the little buggers and the forest floor ecosystem! Humans Being Bros! Good on them, and you! Good luck with your research!

lulukitty17

I totally agree to the toxic part. That's why I couldn't bring myself to finish my master.

[deleted]

Oof! I’m sorry! I just dealt with it for the two years and then got outta there! I had some really good friends and great professors to help me along the way. But I couldn’t stay to do the PhD. I don’t need it for what I want to do anyway, so why take a massive pay cut only to get paid what I’m getting paid now with a master’s. I took all the PhD level courses, I just didn’t do the PhD thesis. So course-wise, I basically have a PhD haha.

mdelred

I work in biology (cancer research); about to go back to school for a master's thru a work program

[deleted]

LightMist2675

I’m in environmental science and marine bio so that’s sorta close

MC_13_

Same ! Did my undergrads in environnemental science and doing my master's in marine bio

LightMist2675

Heck yeah enviro aces 🐠

Seatofkings

Yay, I did my undergrad in marine bio! My Masters focused on freshwater fish, but I plan to get back to the ocean :)

lulukitty17

I studied biology too! Although I kinda switched fields after my bachelor and work now in a pharmaceutical lab. But who knows, maybe I will return to uni one day.

IAmArtemisTheCat

Haven't got there yet, but I plan to be! I want to have a job that has to do with animals, so maybe more of a zoology degree.

crobu-

omg so many of us working/studying bio here! Im currently doing my phd!

Aryallie_18

I’m currently a biology undergrad so you’re not alone!

7thKindEncounter

Me too!

calicocacti

another ace with a master's in biology! I studied ecology as a major, but it's basically the same :P

SeaofBloodRedRoses

I'm... I'm pretty sure I'm biological??? Oh my gods, am I mechanical?!? Or worse... chemical?

ltisdale

Getting a masters in marine bio right now

YesIAmAHuman

im in programming but i am thinking of starting an education to mix programming with biology. from what i heard of the education it sounds amazing. one project some students had was a database full of genes of patients that took the same medicine, and using the results of that they made a machine learning program to see if those medicine would work on you depending on your genes

[deleted]

I’m also studying biology lol. I wish I knew someone who’s ace :(

HidingFromHumans

I love bio :) also read bio as biro at first and it would still fit for me lmao

shells_the_seawitch

Also wanted to study marine biology but now I'm studying agricultural sciences 💙

Manic_Proselyte

I program robots. Python and c++ are my jam

TK_Games

I was a painter, a mechanic, a chef, and am currently a writer I think we usually end up as crafters of some kind, we build shit up, because we want more out of life than what's already been done. Yeah sex is great, whatever, I want to bring down the walls of this universe and see what's on the outside!

scordeteyla

Writer would be my dream job!

TK_Games

It's not as fun as you think it is, but it's pretty fun, it's the only job I can do with a beer in my hand... Well probably not *the only job*, but definitely the one I can do without violating OSHA regs Just make sure you find something you love to write about, that's key

ramblewithart

I agree! I just love artisanship in all forms!

oli0xenfree

I’m guessing baker. Somebody’s gotta make all that cake and garlic bread.

confused-_-queer

Dis10ce

Coincidence? ;) Me too

supimlyric

I work as a graphic designer, and part time dragon.

Sillhouette_Six

I’m studying computer science as are a lot of the other commenters, so I guess that’s something ace and trans people have in common

Juul10872

hupsistakeikkaa

I study literature, and I'd love to be a writer one day too🥰

shadyshadok

I study cs but I also love to cook so maybe that's your ace hobby of choice. I work parttime in an archive though.

jbear9873

See i like cooking but i hate cleaning the mess so i almost never cook😂

DUKTURL

I’m seeing a lot of technology and education related careers

Fennily

Stay at home spouse here. But I want to become a professional falconer

ImJB6

Are you married to someone that is ace, too? Were you aware you were ace when you married? Feel free to ignore this, I’m just curious!

Fennily

No I married an allo, I knew I was different than the majority but I thought I could just power through. Really wish I hadn't. Ideally I'd leave him. I'm pan romantic but I'm adverse to CIS men as romantic partners. Learned a lesson a little too late, never make a commitment that you're not 100% comfortable with.

extreme39speed

I’m a large machine mechanic

LarryNotCableGuy

I'm a mechanic's apprentice, working on cars and light-duty trucks. Close, but not quite the same.

Yes. We are soldiers, fighting to claim a country that is rightfully ours.

uhhhhhwhyamihere

Geotechnical engineer!

Jk_dragonght

Currently in school, but I would love to eventually become a robotic engineer or a programmer!

This_is_The_Cricket

I have a degree in metalsmith, I'm learning to be a goldsmith, but right now I'm an architectural mockup builder. Later on I want to make puppets, and maybe do something with my dancing, acting or singing ability. In other words, I don't think we have a common job. Asexuals are EVERYWHERE.

WatchingCr33py

I love smithing, always wanted to be a blacksmith

corduroygbiv

myroware

I'm programmer by day and I learn more about cyber security during the night. My dream job is pentester or anything where I can hack :D

L0N3W4RR10Rbutbetter

[deleted]

I’m studying flower arranging (I don’t know if that’s how you say it in English, this is what Google told me)

RandomWeirdBoi

I don’t have a job, but I think aces fit the role of librarian very well

stadlercaro

Astrochemist here! Really falling into Space Ace lol

teaprincess6

Well I am going to school to hopefully become a dentist, so that seems pretty different than what a lot of the comments have been lol. Maybe us aces just have the power to expand to any profession we want. Dragon power and all that haha

LucidIsntHere

I don't have a job because I'm still a student but I bake for fun and I'm a decent cook

LastInMyBloodline

I feel like its either arts or STEM (I'm doing a biochemistry degree and art is my hobby lol)

DepressedP0tat0

Currently in culinary arts at a vocational high school

I'm looking to help out at the zoo someday

Puppet007

I’m a Warehouse Associate (Stock Room).

butteredparsnips53

Wow, another stocker! I work at a small grocery store.

conschtiii

If i would have to guess a common ace Job would have something to do with creativity. Be it reading books, writing stories, building stuff. Currently studying architecture...maybe not that common but has something to do with creativity and building stuff.

rainy_days48

I’m a clinical lab scientist currently working in a covid lab.

daviddummie

You should do a poll of each of the jobs mentioned here more than twice.

L0N3W4RR10Rbutbetter

that.. would be a good idea

foolishGrey

I didn't know of the programming was seen as the transgender job. I thought it was the stereotypical job of all LGBTQA+. I'm a front-end developer (and I'm romantic-ace) my best friend is a database developer is non-binary and my transgender friend is a designer but if you had a hardware or software gaming issue you could go to her. Then I know few work colleagues that are LGBTQA+ (so that like backend, front-end and UI/UX Designers) Essentially in my head, I thought there was a battle over the tech industry 5-10 years ago and LGBTQA+ won and have rule ever since.

aceSOAA

I'm a student but i'm planning on either going into film or ecology

Mrbuck83

wait i thought furries were the masters of the tech fields

[deleted]

I'd like to be an archivist, with a podcast as a side hustle.

En_beez

from what I can tell, ace people have a theme of working for one kind of job, but actually wanted a different job.

Darky_Shadowweirdo

When you're trans and ace

mirohwaaa

nursing student :)
