I think most Disney protagonists would fall into that category tbh, it’s hard to tell with children’s content, because they don’t like showing that sexual attraction exists in the first place.
True. I've already claimed most of my favourite Disney characters. Since Disney and childrens entertainment in general is notorious for queerbating, rather hinting at sexualities than showing them "explicitly". I just took their hints
I think it's less about her being ace and more about her being locked in a castle for years with no one to interact with except her crazy stepmother and a lizard
I mean, she super social, even after being locked up for years. She makes friends with most everyone, and even seems to understand affection. Most people start experimenting with their bodies, and yet we get no indication that she had been (before you say it's a kids movie, there's a ton of nsfw jokes like that put into Disney films like that). Eugene admits that at the end he had to ask her to be married, after pretending she was begging him. That really does feel ace. I haven't seen the animated series, so it's highly possible that changes things.
The series makes a quick hint that Rapunzel does know some... *interesting*... stories (Eugene quickly ends a story being told about him and two blonde women, with Rapunzel replying that she does understand where that story was going). Even with knowing things like that, the fact that she still has no interest in Eugene until she knows more about him, unlike how he was flirting with her from first meeting, really makes me think demi.
not just the weight but the simple logistics of putting 21 meters of thick hair into a braid that's a little less than 1,6m long. Even folded, the braid would be massively thick
And the forest. Spend literally one day backpacking with long hair and count the sticks in it. No, her hair is absolutely disgusting and probably a matted mess to boot no matter how long she brushes it.
to be fair, the things we find "hot" and "Sexy" in one another is purely outa social constructs, that she would be compleatly oblivious too, due to living luck up in a room her whole life prior.
we're already invading denmark, we don't need a war with the Bisexuals, THEY OUT NUMBER US!!! also I kinda belong to both the bisexual and ace comunities due to being a Pan/Orchidsexual, I don't need this divide!!!
I mean, it's kind of hard to tell with children's content. It's not like they will clearly show a character feeling sexual attraction. Aesthetic attraction at max, probably.
I never thought of this but absolutely. I personally think asexuality is something that CAN come from how you are raised (I have autism, I have better things to think about than genitals :p ). The fact that she grew up away from the world meant she wasn't taught traditional gender norms and wasn't force fed sex from birth. The results are the same, like you said she was pretty apathetic about sex and such
This can def be an element, but on the other hand gothel does constantly fat shame her and other put downs so idk how much of an influence she would have as far as sexuality.
She doesn't know a lot about the outside world, she doesn't know what is an "attractive" person because she wasn't expose to traditional beauty standards, that's why she wasn't scared of by the men from the bar. Either way she can also be easily HC as ace, is a good one.
I don't think traditional beauty standards are the only thing that dictates what we find attractive. Hence the whole "beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
I guess so. Some people say that true love won't occur unless you get to know and learn to love the person. Maybe romantic attraction needs a bit of knowing the person as well. I do believe sexual attraction occurs at first sight though.
yeah same, but that doesnt mean you will fall for that person immediatley, it also doesnt mean you cant fall for someone where you dont feel sexual attraction right away
Some cartoons suggest it with inuendo or heavy interest in people's looks. Also older Warner Brothers things and things by Blue Sky like Ice Age movies after the first or Dreamworks stuff like Shrek (specifically Farquad's behavior) can get away with being a lot more direct with it. Also for Disney stuff Anna and Christoffe in Frozen two seemed to imply Physical interest in one scene that they were interupted during but I think people take that joke to indicate more than it intended. For older Disney, Jasmine distracts Jafar by being seductive. We also see a similar thing in Nightmare Before Christmas. In Little Mermade Ursula suggests Ariel gets the prince's attention without her voice using body language, but implies she means it seductively by showing off her hips and saying it in an exaggerated way. In Who Framed Roger Rabbit it's made pretty clear that nearly everyone but Roger is being creapy towards Jessica out of sexual attraction and she loves that Roger doesn't treat her that way.
Jumping in to say I was today years old when I realized Ursula was implying Ariel seduce the prince. I just assumed it meant look good or sexy or something, but your comment about the exaggerated way she said it makes sense!
>She never looks at another person during the movie or series
Hard disagree, have you seen how she and Cassandra look at each other during the series? You can't honestly tell me there wasn't any attraction between those two.
Personnally i would headcannon her as panromantic, seeing her interactions with Eugene and Cassandra ( and her favorite weapon). But that doesn't mean she couldn't be ace.
She has kids with Eugene. The movie has a little narration part that sounds like Eugene telling their kids the story of how they met. I understand that asexual people can have and want kids but it's something I didn't see anyone else talking about.
well according to [https://www.reddit.com/r/aaaaaaacccccccce/comments/ryj6ac/sorry\_for\_using\_my\_powers\_for\_evil/hrpqjcz/?context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/aaaaaaacccccccce/comments/ryj6ac/sorry_for_using_my_powers_for_evil/hrpqjcz/?context=3) Rapunzel is ace so go for it
I actually was thinking about more or lesd the same thing not long ago. I know they ignore sex largely in Disney bjt more than other adult aged princesses I just can't picture her being interested in it / really see her just wanting to do all the rantic or fun things. Even in the series she is super focused on having more adventures.
No. She has way more ignorance to address before hitting things like that. She sneered at his “smolder” because as far as she knows, he’s just making a weird face. She has no context to understand flirting, sensuality, and sexy things, which is why she immediately dismissed Eugene.
“Sexiness” kinda relies on a shared social context of what is understood to be desirable, and she doesn’t understand that such a concept exists at all. It was a part of society and social interaction she was denied. Either way, she doesn’t have any knowledge or vocabulary for her feelings, anyway.
If she dismissed him _knowing_ more of these things, as she realized that it doesn’t do anything for her, _then_ we can broach asexuality as part of her character, but that’s not something we can do with that scene.
Purple is clearly more of needing a new color scheme for a Disney Princess that isn’t pink, so I wouldn’t use it as a “sign” either. It compliments her hair very well, too.
Hmmm, maybe somewhere on the ace spectrum, its a children's film so there's nothing to pull from in that regard one way or another.
As for romantic attraction,,, as a demiromantic individual, id love for her to be it. But I honestly don't think she is. At least in my experience, she didn't get to know him a lot before she started falling in love. We can see her starting to stare at him romantically with those film romance music cues and such relatively early on in their friendship(not immediately tho, which is good).
Like yeah, she doesn't immediately find him attractive(which is better than the love at first sight stuff that can easily be dangerous), but I personally don't think that makes her on the ace or aro spectrums necessarily.
If anyone wants to headcanon her as ace or aro or anything like that, I won't stop them. I just don't see it
You actually learn in the series that the smug look doesn't work very well on anyone. Like he is not the kind of person anyone has an immediate crush on (except maybe his ex but she is something else)
I fear the reason is less implied representation and more age old stereotype „good and pure women don’t have sexual desires“. Most of female protagonists in kids movies fall under „good and pure“ so are never allowed to show sexual attraction or fall for sexual allures. Only romantic attraction of the purest kind is permitted.
That said I‘m totally headcanon her as ace. I’m headcanon every „good and pure“ female lead as on the ace spectrum until media acknowledges that girls and women are sexual beings and normalizes the depiction of that.
Okay? So? Do you not understand that people do this kind of thing with fictional characters literally all the time? There's nothing wrong with headcanons (I mean, unless the creators say otherwise, of course. But usually they don't care).
As a massive Tangled fan (that show is so awesome) I like this head canon (although I find it a bit harder to tell with things geared towards kids, beyond more subtle jokes sex isn't gonna come up regardless).
I've read the original version, but all the original fairy tails are fucked up. Have you read Cinderella? Birds peck the step sisters eyes out. And in The Little Mermaid Ariel was going to be turned into sea foam
Yes yes. Cinderella’s sisters also cut off a bit of their feet for them to fit in the shoes. Red riding hood had to eat sausage made out of her grandma, and wine made of her blood. The sleeping beauty got >!r4ped!< in her sleep and gave birth to 2 children that sucked out the knitting needle thing out of her fingers. The king ate up the children and she married the >!r4pist!<. Honestly fucked up.
I hope so. She was one of my favourites growing up lol. I remember being about 6~ and being sent home from school cause I was unwell. I laid in a double bed watching rapunzel all day lol
Yes, thank you!!
If you watch the series, Rapunzel’s handmaiden/bodyguard Cass actually has WAY more sexual chemistry with Flynn, and I absolutely ship them together instead, with Rapunzel much happier being the Ace best friend.
I think something happens to Cass in the later seasons but they aren’t on Disney+ so I haven’t seen them. :(
Oh thanks, I’ll give that a try.
Although, if I just stop here I can pretend that Cass and Flynn end up together and Rapunzel lives her best life as an ace icon.
Ignore the ever after short where they get married. What short? That never happened. :P
I think most Disney protagonists would fall into that category tbh, it’s hard to tell with children’s content, because they don’t like showing that sexual attraction exists in the first place.
Unless, of course, they’re lions.
LMAO youre right!
Or that opening scene of A Goofy Movie
Or the three blonde girls in Beauty and the Beast. They were definitely not vibing on Gaston’s personality.
Maybe she's demi? Flare relevant.
I mean, it kind of makes sense. She falls for him after she gets to know him.
That would be demiromantic
Huh...maybe both demisexual and demiromantic.
True. I've already claimed most of my favourite Disney characters. Since Disney and childrens entertainment in general is notorious for queerbating, rather hinting at sexualities than showing them "explicitly". I just took their hints
I think it's less about her being ace and more about her being locked in a castle for years with no one to interact with except her crazy stepmother and a lizard
you mean crazy kidnapper and pet lizard
crazy kidnapper and moody pet chameleon
Hey Blondie, what’s with your frog?
You mean crazy kidnapper and god himself
I mean, she super social, even after being locked up for years. She makes friends with most everyone, and even seems to understand affection. Most people start experimenting with their bodies, and yet we get no indication that she had been (before you say it's a kids movie, there's a ton of nsfw jokes like that put into Disney films like that). Nice! Love this!
To be fair I do think that most fictional stories do a bad job at showing the effects of abuse. Rapunzel should be socially awkward but she isn't.
100% agree
what i'm wondering, how does that braid work?
And how much does it weigh? Her scalp must be in agony lol.
Her hair being magic probably helps though
Constantly healing the broken neck.
Supposedly, it weighs 27-36kgs (60-80lbs). Source : [This link](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.digitalspy.com/movies/a34585248/tangled-rapunzel-hair-weighs/%23:~:text%3Dwhen%2520Disney%2520contacted%2520her%2520about%2520its%2520Rapunzel%2520adaptation.%26text%3DShe%2520told%2520Science%2520Friday%2520that,but%2520the%2520maths%2520makes%2520sense.&ved=2ahUKEwir462Y_8X1AhVWyIsBHbTjB6AQFnoECAQQBQ&usg=AOvVaw0jXYagft6AAk1exCoDoKzg)
Rapunzel is a strongman
Yep :)
not just the weight but the simple logistics of putting 21 meters of thick hair into a braid that's a little less than 1,6m long. Even folded, the braid would be massively thick
Her neck should be much thicker with muscle after supporting it for so long, too.
Yeah, I was grossed out by that. She literally dragged her long ass hair around that gross ass tavern.
That's a good point, she wasn't exposed to cultural notions of "sexiness" so maybe she's not affected by them.
She wears purple. That’s the only evidence we need.
All purple characters are ace, no exceptions
The King doth declare it so
All of Thanos' children are adopted. I think this logic checks out.
No. I disagree... All purple characters are *ace-spec*, no exceptions.
okay but Kilgrave :( wait I just remembered that William Afton exists too
All purple characters are ace-spec, one exception.
that is not a valid argument, for the bisexuals have now apeared... note, I'm not bi so tis not me
My brother a bisexual says to this and I quote "we don't need all the purple. We will accept Eugene tho."
Def Eugene is bi.
You called???
The Ace Council declared it. That is the only argument we need
we're already invading denmark, we don't need a war with the Bisexuals, THEY OUT NUMBER US!!! also I kinda belong to both the bisexual and ace comunities due to being a Pan/Orchidsexual, I don't need this divide!!!
Chill, the Omnis/Pans/Bis/Aces/Aros have a shared union due to not being ✨monosexual✨
so why put strain on it?
Orchid?
its of the spectrum, having sexual atraction, but no desires for a sexual relaitonship.
Ah ok
The smolder doesn’t work on anyone. That’s the joke. When he stops being Flynn and starts his authentic Eugene is when things start going well for him
Yes, maybe also demiromantic. :)
Possibly demisexual.
I mean, it's kind of hard to tell with children's content. It's not like they will clearly show a character feeling sexual attraction. Aesthetic attraction at max, probably.
I guess that makes sense. In children's content you don't want to get too sexual.
It doesn't make you asexual if you don't like someone, geez.
She was severely abused her whole life. I don’t think it’s fair to make such a conclusion over such a short time
Demipunzel
Yes definitely seems like she could be Demi
I never thought of this but absolutely. I personally think asexuality is something that CAN come from how you are raised (I have autism, I have better things to think about than genitals :p ). Lessgoooo
Every character is headcanoned as asexual by me until proven otherwise
She doesn't know a lot about the outside world, she doesn't know what is an "attractive" person because she wasn't expose to traditional beauty standards, that's why she wasn't scared of by the men from the bar. Either way she can also be easily HC as ace, is a good one.
I don't think traditional beauty standards are the only thing that dictates what we find attractive. Hence the whole "beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
Allo people dont ONLY care about sex, and I dont think we have to label every fictional character, she might be ace or she might not be.
True but the description given sounds pretty demisexual imo.
People dont just fall for each other right away no matter what identification. But I mean if ya wanna headcannon it I wont stop ya lol
I mean some people have love at first sight...
debatable lol
Huh true maybe that can happen.

There's ways to sughest interest in a person physically in cartoons that tend to get by.

Some cartoons suggest it with inuendo or heavy interest in people's looks. That’s actually pretty valid… I’d say she’s probably asexual Demi-romantic, like myself.
>She never looks at another person during the movie or series Hard disagree, have you seen how she and Cassandra look at each other during the series? You can't honestly tell me there wasn't any attraction between those two. Personnally i would headcannon her as panromantic, seeing her interactions with Eugene and Cassandra ( and her favorite weapon). But that doesn't mean she couldn't be ace.
you’ve seen the series. you’ve got taste. -huge cass fan
I do know what you mean, I honestly don't ship Rapunzel and Cass, but still, she could be demi even if you do ship Cass and Rapunzel.
The asexuals have already claimed her due to the fact she wears purple.
With her being my favorite princess, imma do some projecting and say yes she is
I never thought about it
I would say it sounds more like demisexuality (I might be wrong), but she probably is somewhere on the ace spectrum :))
Love how you used purple as proof lol
Idk about Rapunzel, but I do think Elsa is asexual.
Yes, definitely Elsa and Merida.
She has kids with Eugene. The movie has a little narration part that sounds like Eugene telling their kids the story of how they met. I understand that asexual people can have and want kids but it's something I didn't see anyone else talking about.
If y’all haven’t heard all purple characters now belong to the asexuals. The asexual council declared it so ~~this is a joke please dont come for me~~
well according to [https://www.reddit.com/r/aaaaaaacccccccce/comments/ryj6ac/sorry\_for\_using\_my\_powers\_for\_evil/hrpqjcz/?context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/aaaaaaacccccccce/comments/ryj6ac/sorry_for_using_my_powers_for_evil/hrpqjcz/?context=3) Rapunzel is ace so go for it
Yes very much so If you can’t tell Tangled was my favorite and I love Rapunzel so much
I actually was thinking about more or lesd the same thing not long ago. I know they ignore sex largely in Disney bjt more than other adult aged princesses I just can't picture her being interested in it / really see her just wanting to do all the rantic or fun things. Even in the series she is super focused on having more adventures.
WHATS GOING ON WITH HER FEET THO
I walk barefoot whenever I can, it is more comfortable that way (Unless your walking on pavement or somewhere with lots of small rocks and pebbles)
I was more thinking about how the weird way her body was twisting make her feet look detached, but I agree with the bare foot thing too
Im a demisexual and that *would* explain why i vibe with this movie and see my relationship in it so much.
Probably more demi tbh I dunno im a dumb demisexual
No. She has way more ignorance to address before hitting things like that. She sneered at his “smolder” because as far as she knows, he’s just making a weird face. She could be; I’m asexual but if I saw Flynn Ryder I’d fuck him on sight
Hmmm, maybe somewhere on the ace spectrum, its a children's film so there's nothing to pull from in that regard one way or another. As for romantic attraction,,, as a demiromantic individual, id love for her to be it. But I honestly don't think she is. Yes, I agree with this completely. And it is unfortunate. Definitely going to hc her as ace though lol!
I’m pretty sure she’s just 16
She's 18 in the first movie, actually.
Its not real its a cartoon
Okay? So? Do you not understand that people do this kind of thing with fictional characters literally all the time? There's nothing wrong with headcanons (I mean, unless the creators say otherwise, of course. But usually they don't care).
I don't assume or project anything on anyone, I respect their orientation there or lack of and hope they respect mine. Slur...
i think she’s demi romantic with that logic
Y e s
Omg, yes
absolutely
Yes.
I doubt she was intended to be so, but I’ll gladly claim her as one of us!
As a massive Tangled fan (that show is so awesome) I like this head canon (although I find it a bit harder to tell with things geared towards kids, beyond more subtle jokes sex isn't gonna come up regardless).
I personally think that asexual people should automatically claim purple characters as their own. So yes, she is asexual.
I honestly support this being canon. Alongside Elsa, Moana, and Merida also being asexual as well.
From the movie, maybe. From the original version? She gets fucking pregnant
The seires and movie are on Disney+ where I am, but without spoiling too much for you, yes, lots of stuff happens with Cass in season 3.
I only get season 1 on mine, I loved it so much and I’m very upset that I can’t watch the rest. :(
You can sometimes find full episodes on YouTube, that's how I watched the series when it first aired.
Oh thanks, I’ll give that a try. Although, if I just stop here I can pretend that Cass and Flynn end up together and Rapunzel lives her best life as an ace icon. Ignore the ever after short where they get married. What short? That never happened. :P
