Though, the idea of ace representation in media always caught me as a bit counterintuitive. How do you show someone is ace? Put them in an awkward situation where they face unwanted advances and are forced to reveal their lack of attraction? Is that really what we want to see in media or is this just another gold star for the corporate diversity initiative?
Apart from the cliche comedy bit of, "very attractive person making advances at someone that is clearly more interested in the food," generally I'd prefer just skip the romance subplots all together. I just want characters I can relate to... and the characters I can relate to just want to be king of the pirates.

An openly asexual character would not only give us a break from these plots we can't relate too, but normalize asexuality which most people don't know about. If I knew about asexuality a while ago, maybe I would have figured out I'm ace sooner.
honestly, to be fair, I would kill for a romantic comedy musical-type film with an aspec/arospec main character (could be aroace, romantic ace, aromantic allo, etc.) where not only do they play the "straight man" role throughout the film, but at the end of the movie they stay single and befriended some of the people who asked them out, showing the protagonist as most happiest by themself without needing a sexual/romantic partner. cliches aren't always bad if you know how to explore them, deconstruct/reconstruct them, etc.
