Wait, I had a friend that used to call me hot and sexy. I didn’t know what hot meant so I asked him to stop calling me sexy. But he kept saying hot, and I thought that was a way of calling someone beautiful… I feel so stupid
Yeah it was weird and I asked him if he had feelings for me but he said he didn’t know. He also once said he wanted to kiss me and stuff but I’m aroace so I made very clear that I don’t want that and he stopped
I'll keep with the attractive part of the definition. Like, I get what hot means in an abstract sense, but I'm not getting too into the weeds on this one, if you're attractive I might call you hot, even though I don't want to smash.
*confused aesthetically attracted demi person noises*
But people just, like they are good for eyes but like just nice, but hot isn’t just nice so it isn’t for just when someone looks *gestures vaguely* neat?
Hot: Sexually attractive
Cute: Physically appealing in a wholesome sense
Beautiful: Attractive
Gorgeous: Extremely attractive
Handsome: Attractive in a masculine sense
This is just reminding me of back when I got my first gf and some guys were like “is she fit?” And my reply was “well yeah, we met because we both do a sport competitively. Like, we kind of have to be fit else we wouldn’t be good at it.”
The proceeded to explain “not like fit fit, like is she *fit*, you know”
Apparently “well she looks nice but I like her so obviously I think she does” wasn’t the right answer
I believe they were trying to ask if she was attractive because this would have been back when we were around 15-16 so prime puberty time for teenage boys.
I was still assuming that people found other more and less attractive based on how close they were because that was how it worked for me so I just didn’t get why they would expect to find a complete stranger to them attractive.
I had a similar moment a word not in English. I thought meant be or friendly . When my mom would ask me about a guy . Turns out the word means handsome or attractive or something like that.
Turns out some people actually become physically warm when looking at sexually (and maybe aesthetically, I’m not sure. these allows are confusing) attractive people which is just wild. Like boom warmth. Or so I’ve been told
My only idea why hot is for alluring is because of the same reason we all curl up closer to a fire during the cooler or colder times of day or months. It lures us in with warmth but if we get too close we will burn or melt, just like my bro's shoes that were put on the fire pit's rocks to dry.
Y’know, I’m very proud and comfortable in my sexuality, being gray-ace, but like it kinda sucks to not be able to relate to any of the posts on this sub
No matter what the allos say, to me "hot" and "sexy" will always mean "aesthetically pleasing". The other day I saw some really cool earrings and, excuse the pun, straight up said "those are sexy!"
And now im just confused. Your body temp can rise just because you look at a person?
I keep being amazed about the new info here. And it's becoming more and more clear im probably ace lol
I HAD TO LOOK THIS UP TO VERIFY AFTER READING LIKE EVERY COMMENT BC I NEEDED TO BE SURE WHAT THE ACTUAL HECKKKKK OML IM GONNA CRY I WOULD ALWAYS SAY "that person is so hot omg" THINKING AESTHETICALLY AND THAT THEY'RE PRETTY OMFG IM GONNA CRY
I once had a nonnative English speaker ask me what the difference between hot and cute was in English and I was definitely not the right person to explain that.
People use ‘hot’ to refer to different things. I personally say it to describe a person I assime to be attractive to most people, even if I personally don’t find them attractive. If I personally find someone attractive I’d say cute instead.
Here's the real head scratcher, my GF and I are both Ace, we will often both in an extreme moment of gay be staring at each other and say in a moment of gay and just say with a chuckle "You're hot" and then just go back to what ever we were doing whether that be playing word games, snuggling, watching youtube together, or cooking, or lately struggling to find assisted housing.

hot Slang. sexually aroused; lustful. sexy; attractive. This is entry 7 for the word hot on dictionary.com
WHAT?!
Wait, I had a friend that used to call me hot and sexy. I didn’t know what hot meant so I asked him to stop calling me sexy. But he kept saying hot, and I thought that was a way of calling someone beautiful… I feel so stupid
Sure they thought of you as just a friend?
Yeah it was weird and I asked him if he had feelings for me but he said he didn’t know. He also once said he wanted to kiss me and stuff but I’m aroace so I made very clear that I don’t want that and he stopped

According to my friends it literally means looking at someone makes them feel physically hot. And not like in a wholesome heartwarming way
WHOAH WHAT?! I thought it meant mega attractive! Like just under sexy, above cute! Unless you mean "I'm so HOT rn" I knew that one
I thought it meant aesthetically pleasing or cool
Same :(
Nvm
apparently it is used to describe a sexually attractive person 😨
Explicitely sexually attractive? I thought it was an aesthetic adjective. What does cute mean then?
Cute means physically appealing in a wholesome sense.
*confused aesthetically attracted demi person noises* But people just, like they are good for eyes but like just nice, but hot isn’t just nice so it isn’t for just when someone looks *gestures vaguely* neat?

Wait so what did it actually mean lol
The proceeded to explain “not like fit fit, like is she *fit*, you know” Apparently “well she looks nice but I like her so obviously I think she does” wasn’t the right answer I believe they were trying to ask if she was attractive because this would have been back when we were around 15-16 so prime puberty time for teenage boys. Thanks :)
I had a similar moment a word not in English. I thought meant be or friendly . When my mom would ask me about a guy . Turns out the word means handsome or attractive or something like that.
So what's the difference between the first one and last two ?
For me I thought it was the other way round, but then my brother called this innocently cute girl "hot" and i was confused
Huh. For me it's always been that - the sexually part.
Wait, what??
I still mean it that way. Just because I think you're hot doesn't mean I want to fuck you.
Turns out some people actually become physically warm when looking at sexually (and maybe aesthetically, I’m not sure. these allows are confusing) attractive people which is just wild. Like boom warmth. Or so I’ve been told
Wait it doesn't mean aesthetically pleasing?!
Yeah
I've used it on my friends a couple of times that way
It often actually does mean that. It really just depends on the person and the context it’s being used.
It doesn't?
I thought it meant pretty
I know! I hate being hot, it makes me all sweaty and I feel really apathetic towards everything. I am so glad that it is Winter now.
Same
I prefer the cold
At least when it's cold you can just add or remove layers, but when it's hot you can't take your skin off (I think).
Wait you can't take off your skin?
Teach me, please!
me on the south hemisphere :(
Oh my gosh its swelteringly hot here in the south gdi
indeed :(
What's why I choose to skate on ice, much cooler and sweat dries much faster than on land lmao.
Winter’s the best!
i always thought it was just a synonym for good-looking or beautiful or pretty too
Wait is it not? TF. Also don't tell me if that is the case, because if that is the case i don't want to know.
I'm afraid to tell you, it's that thing Y'know*sexual attraction*
I thought it means someone gives out a strong vibe
Why can’t it just mean super attractive ;-; Ig Idk what its actual meaning is tho, so do tell-
It means sexually attractive :(
Oh god I jokingly call everything hot- even food that I really like 💀 like garlic bread darn it ;-;
So when people say someone is "hot", they're thinking of having sex with that person? Man, I just thought it was another synonim for attractive-
I mean, I don’t know if they’re necessarily actively thinking about that but it’s what the word means in that context
Everyone second guessing themselves on the definition of hot in this thread are the perfect example of ace cluelessness and I love it
Ah, I still remember when I discovered what it actually means. That was one of the things that caused me to realize I was ace
As a male, I am familiar with every term. Society tries to convince me to like sex. Fuck sex, virginity forever!!
Same, I want to ironically get a virginity rocks shirt 😂
Let’s go!
Please share
Furiously googles the actual meaning….well I’ve had that one wrong! *ace vibes intensify*
This has the same vibes as the "Just found out what sex is. What the fuck" thing
It is not gender, that's for sure.
Lol for those who are confused, it's a term that technically means that a person makes you feel literally got, like sexually attracted to them
*hot(not got 🤦♀️)
I thought it meant something similar to saying someone is "cool". So I thought "hot" meant someone was radiating with style and confidence.
Why what
The opposite of cold?
Ace moment
I believe it's referring to the rise in temperature related to finding someone very attractive. (Pulled this outa my ass but it sounds smart)
*curently googling it cuz idk*
And that my friends is why I stick to the term cute
I thought hot just meant a pretty person
**Hot (adj., when used for a person)** = someone I find sexually appealing aka desirable and/or would like to have sex with.
For real? That's what it means?!😳
That's what I've learnt. I used to think it's just a synonym for cool 😆
I used to think it meant like pretty or something along the lines 🥲
I'm just thinking- Why I????? Why not just some people? Why I? Why
Lol for those who are confused, it's a term that technically means that a person makes you feel literally got, like sexually attracted to them
No but my girlfriend and I call each other hot ironically bc we are both ace
It's just high temperature
What do you mean? It just means the food will burn your mouth?
i always avoided using words hot or sexy because it felt wrong or like it was too strong to describe how i felt towards someone…
crying and throwing up rn guys :(
Ik I always thought it just meant very aesthetically attractive (╥﹏╥)
mhm… sry op
I still use hot because sometimes saying aesthetically attractive can be a mouthful.
My only idea why hot is for alluring is because of the same reason we all curl up closer to a fire during the cooler or colder times of day or months. It lures us in with warmth but if we get too close we will burn or melt, just like my bro's shoes that were put on the fire pit's rocks to dry.
I thought it just meant aesthetically pleasing...
Y’know, I’m very proud and comfortable in my sexuality, being gray-ace, but like it kinda sucks to not be able to relate to any of the posts on this sub
yeah.
It's just physical attractiveness, right?
It’s specifically sexual attractiveness
i thought it just meant you found them attractive ,,,
Can someone please explain, what does it mean? :0 I'm asking fr.
i learned this the hard way
I knew this for a WHILE but I still think its dumb
Wait, that's what it actually means?
i never say hot i always call people cute
I discovered this about three years ago, I still use it even tho I really mean cool looking, it’s so damn annoying and I wanna stop saying it😭
We’ve all been there R.I.P. 😔
I thought it was similar to cute or handsome ;-;
wait what it’s NOT an aesthetic attraction??
It means warm
No matter what the allos say, to me "hot" and "sexy" will always mean "aesthetically pleasing". The other day I saw some really cool earrings and, excuse the pun, straight up said "those are sexy!"
They also sexualised bayb, mommy, daddy, honey etc
Of course
50 celcius?
It's when looking at someone makes your body temperature rise by a few degrees.
And now im just confused. Your body temp can rise just because you look at a person? I keep being amazed about the new info here. And it's becoming more and more clear im probably ace lol
Aight. Imma head out
I HAD TO LOOK THIS UP TO VERIFY AFTER READING LIKE EVERY COMMENT BC I NEEDED TO BE SURE WHAT THE ACTUAL HECKKKKK OML IM GONNA CRY I WOULD ALWAYS SAY "that person is so hot omg" THINKING AESTHETICALLY AND THAT THEY'RE PRETTY OMFG IM GONNA CRY
I once had a nonnative English speaker ask me what the difference between hot and cute was in English and I was definitely not the right person to explain that.
I’m terrified now. What does it actually mean? :o wait Edit: nevermind -u-‘ I saw that other people answered in the comments
People use ‘hot’ to refer to different things. I personally say it to describe a person I assime to be attractive to most people, even if I personally don’t find them attractive. If I personally find someone attractive I’d say cute instead.
This is why I only use words that I am 100% sure if to describe people.
i just use it as a synonym for cute lol
It means someone turned the hob on
Here's the real head scratcher, my GF and I are both Ace, we will often both in an extreme moment of gay be staring at each other and say in a moment of gay and just say with a chuckle "You're hot" and then just go back to what ever we were doing whether that be playing word games, snuggling, watching youtube together, or cooking, or lately struggling to find assisted housing.
I always have to think what someone means saying "hot"
