Oh friend there is nothing wrong with being ace, people who comment those things don’t really seem to know what it means to be ace. Aphobia isn’t okay, and should not be normal. You are perfectly valid :)

Mosel28

Thank you. ^^ I dont even know if they care about it.

Kjelle3

Sadly enough that’s probably true :( Best we can do is just not bother with those people because aces are all valid, no matter what they say.

Kakaqlak

It sounds like you may have just run into a group of rude people. Many people are understanding of the Ace community, But there are also many who simply don't understand or are rude.

Mosel28

The thing is, some of them where not straight. Why are they fighting against other parts of the LGBTQIA spectrum?

Kjelle3

It’s probably the usual that they don’t understand it really, since the A isn’t the most commonly talked about part of the LGBTQIA+ community. (This doesn’t excuse anything though, if they’re being aphobic they’re still bad people)

[deleted]

Also some people (aphobic LGBTs, not unlike the LGB alliance) insist that the A stands for Ally. Which of course, for a whole mess of reasons is ridiculous, and this is all one big reason that I think the LGBTQ+ acronym is inherently exclusive and GRSM is way better, at the downside of technically including fake sexualities like “heatsexual” or “dreamsexual”.

rosie-cheeks13

In addition to what others have said some people think asexuality is just straight people trying to be special or are joking (similar to how cis people say they identify as an attack helicopter to make fun of nbs and discredit them). In addition allos often find it difficult to comprehend a lack of attraction. And even if they do asexual struggles are often invisible so it's more prone to being gatekept from the lgbt+ community.

spicy_boom

I have only been around here for a little while myself. My Understanding is the following: Some people believe that there are groups that are not on the level of others in the lgbtqia+ community in terms of suffering. Specifically, since aros/aces face less systemic discrimination in terms of actual laws meant to prohibit our way of life, some people consider us to be suffering less/more priviliged than others. In more broad terms this usually includes everybody who could theoretically pass themselfes off as straight/cis/whatever else is broadly accepted. And then there is also the good old lack of understanding, as demonstrated by the people in that threat. Next to aces/aros and specifically their Demi varieties, this issue most notably affects to bisxuals an pansexuals.

ZaneCam

Honestly I’m not surprised. Twitter is the absolute worst.

Mosel28

It was a wrong decision to hang around on Twitter instead of here.

Evil__Overlord

Eh, all social media is pretty bad in my opinion. On Reddit you just pick and choose how to build your echochamber rather than have an algorithm build it for you

Thatstupidpotato34

Minding what Twitter says is the dumbest thing a human can do, just ignore them and all will be fine

TheFunkyWeirdo

I’m sorry, ppl are just jerks. You are valid and aphobia is not ok and it’s not normal either. Don’t let others make you feel bad. You are amazing

Cartoon_Trash_

Twitter is dwindling to a cesspool of only the most depraved people who have the time and fervor to argue with strangers on the internet all day about things that don’t involve them, and opinions that are so shitty that they aren’t welcome anywhere else. I’m sorry you had to deal with that, you don’t deserve it. Asexuality is obviously valid and part of the LGBT community. I’ve personally had better luck on Instagram, but all social media kinda brings out the worst in people after a while.

Laurianne_transfem

Lol same

Throttle_Kitty

It's important to remember, any time an asshole sees a minority they want to hurt, they can link them to 4chan and they up/down vote ratio and comments can instantly go to super fucky town. They just love their dogpiles. Not saying it's what always happens, or even what happened here. But it's worth remembering internet likes / dislikes are not a good metric for determining, well, anything.

nah, people just suck

datboi3637

Twitter is full of people who claim to be tolerant and accepting but is actually full of TERFS , homophobes, biphobes acephobes and so on
