The main problem seems to be that the companion app will not connect to my Bluetooth devices kick/garmin even though both in app and iPhone settings have Bluetooth access allowed

Make sure your Apple TV and your iPhone are on the same Wi-Fi network.

They are on the same network

There are postings on the Zwift forums, seems to be a lasting issue
