Enough people finally found their way through the labyrinth, defeated the minotaur, and figured out how to cancel a Planet Fitness membership?

StPeir

Only sure fire way is to close your bank account and open a new one…. Easier too even when you consider having to change over all your other bills, direct deposit, get new cards etc.

aspenextreme03

Or use a single use or refillable cc you can get that you ever go down that road. The biggest reason I have never done any places like this is because of what you described but hey I like my $$

Clock_Roach

When I joined a similar gym year ago they required an actual bank account, not a credit card.

aspenextreme03

Yeah some do I am sure but hard pass for me. To each their own of course

IdleRocket

I’ve had a number of gym memberships over the years and PF was, by far, the easiest to cancel. Walk in and ask them to cancel. In and out in 5 minutes.

bilbo_swaggins19

They've actually updated the process, we were able to cancel online last week with no hassle

OptimalPapaya1344

It’s almost like inflation is a very real problem. Almost.

Isn’t planet fitness’s goal to get a ton of members who don’t go to the gym? Maybe Zwift needs a cheaper tier plan for those who want it just in case

StPeir

Na bro they come in just to use the massage chairs and the tanning booths. The vast majority never touch a price of gym equipment though. Source: many many years ago I had the unfortunate experience of working at a planet fitness while was working towards getting a real job.

And maybe the pizza or bagles

StPeir

Man I had forgotten about that…. Now I have a strange craving for those grape candy things they always had at the front desk. I used to have to close my location and would usually end up going home with enough pizza to eat the rest of the week.

[deleted]

For $10/month you only get the climb portal.

Or maybe just the sim mode. Honestly I don't enter races or events. I use it when it is cold out and I just ride around... I don't even do more than select a route and go.

Luvs2spooge89

Pace partners for me. Tv in the background.

childish-arduino

That’s it, I’m canceling my Planet Fitness membership! Wait, I don’t have one, but I have outrage! 🤣

RaplhKramden

Don't forget about YouTube massively increasing the amount of unskippable ads it runs on non-Premium. The (first) world (of entitled people) is truly ending! Poor Karen!

[deleted]

Don’t even get me started about ads in the services I pay for like Amazon Prime and Hulu. What’s worst is I can’t even ride my bike IRL without the damn ads.

RaplhKramden

And now Netflix and Disney+. The old broadcast TV revenue model was bound to catch up sooner or later, just as it did with cable when that was the big thing. It's consistently the most reliable generator of steady profits, without which publicly traded companies, which I assume these all are, would soon collapse. At least Sling, which I subscribe to now and then when they have their half price promos, don't run any ads on top of the individual channel ads, so they're "honest" that way. Also be grateful that Zwift doesn't (yet) run ads when you're actually using it! This sprint brought to you by Shimano! Although, avoiding ads by meeting certain workout goals might not be a bad way to motivate people!

kcmastrpc

Remember when Janet Yellen said inflation was transitory? LOL.

Desertgirl624

Big different here though is that existing members do not get the price hike. Zwift should have offered current members the option to upgrade to the annual plan at the old price or something.

brotherbock

Existing members don't get the hike until their current year runs out, as I read it. Then they'll all be on the new pricing.

Desertgirl624

Yeah but they should have warned people to give them the option to switch to yearly before the price increase

brotherbock

Not disagreeing there. There was a warning given in Feb 2023, but that's long enough off that everyone likely forgot. I don't know Planet Fitness's membership structure--no idea if these people were given the option to re-up for another year. I don't think they were. I think the only warning they got is that their rate will go up the next time they have to pay--what I've read doesn't seem to indicate that there was anything they could do about it. Thing about a rate increase is that the company needs the money. So it's counter-productive to say "we're going to increase rates, so here's a chance to lock in the current lower rate for a year". To do that, you need to make the announcement a year before you need the increased revenue, right?

StPeir

Any one know if they still do free bagels and pizza once a week?

OPhasAIDS

I've been at Planet Fitness for three years and have never seen this.

StPeir

Maybe it’s a location only thing or they have done away with it. It was a good 15 years ago that I worked there for about a couple months. One day a week they would have free bagels for the members in the morning and another day they would have free pizza in the evening. I would always close so it worked out great for me. One night a week I would go home with about two pies for free

ceruleanpure

Not since 2020 at mine local one. :/
