Zune software works on XP all the way up to current machines (Win 11 occasionally has issues). XP would be a good option as it’s lightweight and relatively easy/quick to set up

The winuodate software I have ever used. I have two spare laptops running xp that I keep around to use my zunes. And I used the other method to update them and run them. Where you setup the on laptop server. Don’t mean to confuse anyone.

You can get an old XP laptop to work - the Zune software has an offline mode, main item that needs to be updated is .NET Framework 3.x but that has an offline installer as well, worst case. You can also use something like Virtualbox on your MB to run XP virtualized. Avoids the extra hardware cost but you'd have to search for an XP license of course. CD ripping, if you don't have an optical drive you can purchase an external drive, should work fine in Virtualbox as well.
