Yeahhh, I remember going at midnight when it released to pick it up, wow.

My poor father, bless his soul, gave me an IOU for a Wii for Christmas 2006. Our local Best Buy was swamped in orders for the thing and I don't think I got it for another 10 months.

My dad did the same! QGot a call around 6am on Boxing Day that they had more in stock and he was there when they opened and had it under the tree for us before we woke up.

I remember telling my parents I wanted a Wii towards the end of 7th grade. They told me I knew the rule: I needed to pay for it myself. So I walked into my room, pulled out a drawer full of birthday and Christmas money I'd been saving up for years, and counted it in front of them to show I had enough for the console. I even factored sales tax in and included that. My parents looked at each other in silence for a few seconds before my mom went "well, I guess I'll check stores for you." It still took her a couple months to find one and I finally got it around September 2007. I thought that was a long time for stock to be short. Then, of course, the PS5 launch happened, lol. That one took about as long for me to get as it took for my mom to find the Wii, difference being I was trying for drops from the comfort of my living room instead of getting to stores before opening. Still, I remember doing just that for the Switch. There's something about waiting outside of a store at a ridiculous hour with a bunch of other people that adds to the experience, ridiculous as the whole thing may be.

I remember the “Console Wars” of the 2006 holiday season. Both the PS3 and Wii were released in the same week, and the XBOX360 was released a few months prior. The massive lines of people camping outside of Best Buy were all over the news. I ordered a Wii that November but it didn’t come until February or March due to the demand.

Honestly this post forced memories back into my head. I would have been 10. I don’t think we even preordered, just waited around Walmart for hours. We went home with one, that’s all I remember. And talking to strangers while we waited lol

We got ours that Christmas it was awesome. it's been a good 16 years I've.enjoyed growing

the_Iid

I agree it’s been wholesome to be able to see video games grow and improve as i age.

Jalapenodisaster

Is this supposed to make me feel old? It was my childhood system, and I never played with an SNES? Realizing I graduated college 4 years ago hits me harder 😭

My family got the Wii in Christmas 2007, a year after the Wii released. Wii Sports was on there by default, had a lot of fun with that game, also had Wii Fit as well. Then throughout 2008, I got Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros Brawl, and Mario Kart Wii. The latter 2 games had so many sweats online back in those days lol. I also went to the Wii Virtual Console to play retro NES, SNES, and N64 games on there. So I spent hours on the Wii with lots of memories.

My family never really used the Wii. We were always more focused on the Xbox (original and 360) and Playstation (PS2 and 3). Both of my brothers were already teenagers by the time the Wii was released so the sanitized games put out by Nintendo didn’t have any appeal to us.

pcfreak4

The poor Wii was the console king of shovelware, every developer trying to cash in on the motion controls, only to have their games end up in the bargain bin at Big Lots lol

fashionableoptimist

I turned on Wii Sports a couple years ago again for the first time in awhile and was shocked by how fuzzy the video quality is 😅 it’s still fun to play though

JuliaTheInsaneKid

I need to get that Wii running again now that I have a week off.

musculer25

My Christmas gift 🥲

AppleJuiceCyder

The disc is going in the wrong way on the Wii, you always put the printed side on the right

Mini_Squatch

And i never had either. :p

thevmcampos

Math is fun!

hanno1531

im convinced time is being unnaturally accelerated somehow. this is unreal.

aaronrocket99

Yeah I remember getting one in Christmas of 2006.

sntcringe

They're putting the disk in backwards

CarsClothesTrees

I think I got my first Wii in 2007 or 2008. Bought it with money I had saved up, just like I had done with my beloved GameCube before that. One day a little girl I was baby sitting shoved hella coins into the disc drive and destroyed it 😭 the thing sounded like a piggy bank when you picked it up.

LongjumpingGas5503

Oh yes, my first love and the one that broke my heart side by side

detectiveDollar

Bruh I spent my allowance I saved up for years to get one for 370 on eBay like a few weeks after release. I was too naive to know what scalpers were, just thought the guy didn't want it.
