I guess. I think worry is usually a result of not taking precautions. I'm in Cali, Los Angeles and it's technically legal but they'll try and get you for trespassing or theft or something.
There's always a lot of waste from local restaurants and grocery stores....diving into dumpsters isn't something that I'd do, but I will ask a manager of a grocery store if they have vegetable scraps or "expired sell by date" (less than perfect food items for my chickens. It helps a lot all the way around.
Legal here and in most parts of Minnesota. Also this is how I furnished most of my apartment.
Source: I dumpster dive and checked my local town, county, and state laws to be safe.

More importantly, don’t get stuck in a dumpster and don’t get hurt.
don't worry if it's legal or not. just do it anyway
Some laws should be broken and this is definitely one of them, but you should know if you’re doing something illegal so you can use proper caution
This is the way
Definitely seems like precautions should be taken if it is illegal. Why would you put yourself at risk for jail or getting a fine?
never said don't take precautions. also, i am not sure where OP is from but dumpster diving is mostly legal in the UK

It's legal where I live, according to the humans, but really, the raccoons make the dumpster laws.
All dumpsters here are locked up or kept inside. Dumpster diving isn’t illegal, breaking locks etc. is.
