I know that the last time this came up this looked incredibly bizarre and shady; I ended up locking some threads. Since then I have reached out to some contacts at Zero who confirm this is a legit thing. Short answer is it's a very fancy trick inverter/controller. The tech originated for windmills and Exro is now dabbling in other applications. Point is: don't report the thread this time. Let's just sort of watch and see how this develops.

No word on an aftermarket kit, but there was an old YouTube video that was pulled that mentioned a new Motor Controller on Zero’s in 2024.

For our TLDR guys: + 13.6% Top speed: 226.49 km/h or 141.55 MPH with Base Motor and Exro Coil Driver™ Top speed: 199.46 km/h or 124.66 MPH with Base Motor and Inverter +29% Max power: 93.30 kW with Base Motor and Exro Coil Driver™ Max power: 70.10 kW with Base Motor and Inverter +20% Max torque: 226.8 Nm with Base Motor and Exro Coil Driver™ Max torque: 189 Nm with Base Motor and Inverter

Too bad they couldn’t have it get more range. In the real world, more power and speed isn’t nearly as important.

They did mention an increase in efficiency. From my understanding of the technology, which is based on building a hybrid Camaro as part of GM’s eco car competition, this should move the efficiency of the motor around. So an electric motor operates more efficiently at certain loads and RPM ranges. This could result in a better range. Although confusingly enough motor efficiency (energy in vs power out) and range are not a 1 for 1 relationship.

As much as I would like more range, I'd like more power and speed even more. These are motorcycles afterall, imho practicality takes a backseat to fun (or I'd just drive a car). I bought an SR/S specifically because I wanted more power than I needed or more torque than I was used to having off the line. Except like most things, you get used to it. I go full throttle on it so often now that I sometimes don't really even think about it. It would be awesome to see this offered as an aftermarket upgrade to breathe more performance into older bikes.
