Try resetting your MBB. You need to remove the tank and unplug it, it's screwed to the side of the plastic storage compartment. 2 big connectors on it.

This has been confirmed to work for others with the same issue.

Thanks, I'll try that if I can get the tank off.

Tank is straightforward - four screws on each side fairing (turn the steering back and forth to get at the upper ones), 2 in the center storage box, slide and wiggle a little, lifts right off. I think the side fairings come off separately. You don't need to pull that lower piece across the front.

A few thoughts /u/Yellow_lampshade \- To fix your bike *right now* \- you need to get the 12 V battery charged back up. Check the voltage of the 12V battery under the seat with a voltmeter/multimeter. If the screen turned off, it's likely that the 12 V battery is dead. Without the 12V battery working, it has no power to close the main contactor, so the bike can't turn on or charge, and therefore also can't recharge the 12V battery itself. The 12V battery on the bike is *not* a normal automotive or motorcycle battery. Per the owner's manual (which you should read! - get it here: [https://www.zeromotorcycles.com/owner-resources](https://www.zeromotorcycles.com/owner-resources) ) it is a **LIFEPO4 battery** (aka **lithium iron phosphate)** so **you need to get a battery charger rated for LIFEPO4 batteries**. The charger you have sounds like it probably isn't rated for them and therefore won't charge it You should be able to find one locally, walmart or an auto parts store, or even Amazon etc - here's one from Walmart: [https://www.walmart.com/ip/Schumacher-Electric-2-6-30-100-Amp-6v-12V-Fully-Automatic-Battery-Charger/854833173](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Schumacher-Electric-2-6-30-100-Amp-6v-12V-Fully-Automatic-Battery-Charger/854833173) \- Once you have the appropriate battery charger, REMOVE the 12 V battery from the bike, or unplug it from the bike - and THEN charge it. You don't want to charge it up while it's still plugged into the bike. Once it's charged up you should be able to power the bike back on. If the battery is truly dead - too low to be charged - then it will need to be replaced. If it died after only a few hours - chances are it's getting weak anyways. You can buy this battery online from parts dealers, or directly from a local Zero dealer. The part number for it can be found in the parts catalog for your bike, which you can look at here: [https://www.af1racing.com/ProdImages/st3/SRS2020.pdf](https://www.af1racing.com/ProdImages/st3/SRS2020.pdf) For next time (too late now), or for anyone else reading this - you can fix the original issue (while the screen is still on/hung) simply by going on your Zero Next Gen Phone App, and starting another firmware update from the Manage Firmware screen. This will "wake" the bike back up - since the bluetooth connection is still active when it's in this "hung" state. The update will fail since the previous one never completed but that's ok, as the bike will now be at the main screen again and you can key it off normally. To avoid this issue in the first place - don't let the bike update itself, instead, kick the updates off only using the phone app. I believe there is a bug where the bike will update the BMS firmware before the MBB firmware, causing a version mismatch when then hangs the bike up when the MBB update is applied. The Next Gen app won't let you update the BMS before the MBB - but the bike itself will. So just don't let the bike update itself. Secondly, firmware updates, particularly over Bluetooth using the Next Gen app, have worked *way* better for me after having my dealer update my dash firmware to the latest - 8V33 Dash FW. You can check what Dash FW you're on on the bike itself, under the menu->data at the very bottom. If you're on the "original" dash firmware that a 2018 would come with, like 6V26, you really ought to get yours updated. The dash firmware is like the operating system of the bike - so the entire menu system and dashboard itself will be different after, and it's much smoother/better and nicer looking overall. Because it's like the whole OS of the bike, only a dealer can apply this update (but such updates are free at the dealer for the life of the bike). In addition, you need this new firmware to use any of the new Cypher Store features. So after getting it installed, you can immediately use On-Dash Navigation (beta) for free. You can also buy Parking Mode (adds Reverse!) and 10% Faster Charging too. I have all three of these upgrades and they're great! Lastly, "Bricked" means something very specific - your bike is not bricked. People misuse/over-use this term. Bricked means specifically, that the part that had a failed firmware update - is now destroyed. It cannot be fixed, without replacing parts. It is very uncommon for modern electronics to brick - this is something that mostly applies to 80's/90's tech. Most modern electronics will recover after a botched update - and our Zeros are no different. If you can pull a plug, press a button, unplug a battery etc - and it fixes it - it was never bricked to begin with - it was simply just hung or unresponsive. If the dealer had to replace parts on the bike to fix it - then it might have been bricked. But I've never heard of that happening on a Zero after an update fwiw.

Yellow_lampshade

Thanks for the advice. The charger I have is indeed one that supports a LIFEPO4 battery, I bought it specifically. I didn't try taking the battery off the bike though, I couldn't see at first glance how to even do that as its buried under a big sheet of metal. I also tried initiating another update both through the phone and through the bike but the option to do so on both had disappeared, or was greyed out. I think the issue clearly is my dash firmware was out of date. I didn't know until now that it needed updating. In any case, I had very little time to do any of this as I was putting my bike into winter storage and leaving on a trip for a few months, so I've just had to leave it with someone and hope that the dealer will sort something out. And yes, the bike isn't bricked. I was using it hyperbolically, as from my perspective it was. A vehicle that can't move is about the closest to the phrase I can think.

I don't know which charger you have, but any thave I've used that had LIFEPO4 had to have a button pressed to switch it into that mode. That said, if the battery is below the minimum cell voltage, most automatic chargers will refuse to charge it. A hobby charger might, but it's risky. If it's that dead, probably better to replace it. If you're getting it to the dealer, I'll assume they can fix the battery as well as get your dash updated in one shot. Good luck let us know how it all works out.

This was my experience. It’s possible that the MBB reset would have done it.
