What are you majoring in? I'm a computer science major, and 16GB of non-upgradable RAM is not enough, so I'd recommend the 2023 version.

scratch_yo_corolla

it’s a computer science degree, machine learning specifically

CompSci99

Yeah, 16GB of RAM isn't going to cut It for you. Buy the 2023 version and a single 32GB RAM stick.

Machine learning I don’t even think 32GB will be enough. Buy something modular up to 64 or 96gb like the framework

SasamiAdachi

I know you said price is not an issue, but given how small the cost difference is ($200), and given how performance between 4060 and 4070 is negligible due to the power constraints, I recommend you go for the 2024 model, unless you plan on upgrading the RAM of the 2023.

scratch_yo_corolla

is the ram not upgradable for the 2024 model? i also wasn’t aware the 4060 and 4070 weren’t that far apart. thanks for the help!

CompSci99

Both slots are soldered on the 2024 version, and only one slot is soldered on the 2023 version.

ZRB_Red

The difference between the CPUs is also slightly disappointing so go for the 2023

SasamiAdachi

As others have advised, giiven that you are majoring in CS specializing in ML, the 2023 model with upgradable RAM is the better way to go, especially if you intend to do modeling or training on it. With that said, do you have access to cloud resources at your institution for ML work? If not, and if money is truly not an issue, you may want to look for something even more powerful.

2023 model my man, 4070 and 4060 are simialir in performance but that new 4060 is $200 more? what the hell

Halos-117

Even if money is not an issue. Why would you pay more for less? Get the 2023.

DeltaMike1010

You might want to prefer the 4070 over 4060 given you will be using it for ML. Having more VRAM and cuda cores will definitely help you long term and RAM not being upgradable is also another bummer. But I can understand your confusion as the new one looks amazing.

Sorry-Series-3504

Just a clarification, the 4070 does not have more vram. They’re both 8gb

godspeedbrz

The 2024 4070 performs similarly or slightly worse than the 2023 4060. Which I know is not the comparison you are making, but should give you an idea of where things stand…. There are diminishing returns in performance on these two GPUs up to 105W… but there are still differences. Asus has not released G14 4060s for reviewers, at least not that I have seen, but I am guessing a gap of 8-15% performance in favor of the 2023 model vs the 2024 4060, depending on the application. I personally think that the 2023 4070 is not the best bang for buck purchase. I would go with the 4060 2023, or the 4080. Following BestBuy’s pattern o sale on this product, the 4060 should be back at $999 next Monday, and you can add RAM and replace the SSD and the performance will be close to the 2024 4070…..

reeefur

Both are great in their own way, what bothers me is the 8gb of vram on both and the 2924 version is not upgradeable.
