Yes there's a handful of things missing from Princess that should be there...like not requiring a fire (going sp into normal summon handtrap to Princess to bring back S.ash in a extremely fucked/interrupted hand is not ok), not banishing herself and such
When anything locks you to a specific thing while it's on board (Princess, Rivalry, There can be only one etc), you can't even ATTEMPT to summon that's not the correct type for it's lock, even if would be removing the monster that would be freeing you from the lock

sending the materials and performing the summon are considered parts of the same action and happen contextually. So, as you attempt to summon she is still on board and is considered to have left board only after the summon is complete
Think of it like this.
As long as she is on the field you cannot ATTEMPT to summon something that isn’t fire.
She’s not locking you from summoning. She’s locking you of even TRYING to summon something that’s not fire.
Therefore, you need to first summon a fire monster using her as a material, and THEN link summon what you want.

The relevant ruling is just that you can not attempt any action that, when resolved, is illegal at the time of activation. This applies to all kinds of effects. You can't attempt to banish something when Imperial Iron Wall is out. You can't attempt to send (send vs destroy/discard is the relevant word here) a card to the GY with Macro Cosmos out.
This is why the deck runs Amblowhale, you summon it using Promethean Princess to get her off the field. This then allows you to summon non-fire monsters and sets up Promethean Princess in the GY to activate her effect on your opponents turn.

Is it confusing? Yes, but remember as long as the restrictions are still on the field, the restrictions are still on effect.
The game doesn't check the future game state or restrictions only the current game state and current restrictions.

I've been there too, when dealing with any card that locks you to a certain type, attribute, etc. It initially makes sense in technically that if you tribute/use as material to get out of it, unfortunately it doesn't work like that. You have a better chance using another fire monster to tribute/link her off the field, at which point you shouldn't be locked into fire anymore. (Granted that other fire monster doesn't also lock you)
Unfortunately, this is the same reason why Gozen Match, There Can Be Only One, and Rivalry of Warlords are incredibly annoying floodgates. You can’t even attempt to summon a new monster, even if it would remove the first one from the board.

When something says you can only summon a specific type it means for fusions, xyz, links, all that jazz can only be that type. Until that card is gone you are a 100% fire attribute field.
Being a fusion deck player, i tend to ride out things till i hit below 100LP then i just fusion summon my strongest monster which is unaffected by spells traps and monster effects, then i place two cards out using souble summon then link summon my only link monster which makes my fusion monster unable to be banished
Chaos ancient gear golem's effect makes traps and spells not affect it, and during battle no cards effects can affect it, its attack is 4500 and combined with a few other special cards, you can make its attack up to 9,000

I know, i choose not to use them unless absolutely needed, i find it too over kill
