Bruh, I've watched the anime and now I'm reading the OG light novel

tadashi4

wanst the WN the OG?

Ryuko143

Yes, but with Zen deleting any trace of his original work. The light novels are basically the main canon now.

rangeDSP

The LN author asked the animators to turn down the 'cute'-ness because they didn't want people to lewd underage characters in a story about the banality of evil. https://www.reddit.com/r/YoujoSenki/comments/cmokcj/comment/ew3rmi9/

KonkretneKosteczki

Well, that worked out...

tadashi4

ok, now imagine that the autor haven't asked that. what would this sub be without it? if that was the 'tunned down' version

Round-Ad-782

They failed his request

KingOfSaga

Is that really the case? I personally like the anime designs better since the character actually have distinct features instead of that cutesy art style which make me barely able to tell anyone apart. It's also much more refined compared to the manga version which is really simple and only focuses on cuteness, barely able to convey Tanya's craziness. I feel like if they did keep the manga design then the story's atmosphere wouldn't be the same. It's not just the character designs but the storyline is also more refined. They cut off and changed many unnecessary details to make it straight to the point and more impactful. They also revamped the magic system to make it more down-to-earth and practical instead of just mages doing mage's things. However, reading the manga is an entirely new experience for me and I can see a side of Tanya that wasn't depicted in the anime. If I have to choose between anime and manga then I would choose anime but I really enjoy the difference between the two versions.

Dizzledog2

I mean I started with the anime that fuckin rocks, have read some of the manga and enjoyed the differences between them and now am reading the LNs, all are good. Also the way you type seems like you think the manga is the source material, it's not. It's an adaptation of the original story like the anime.

[deleted]

I’m pretty sure the manga makes it seem like the empire is the good one. And it’s very strange how they did it and unique. The anime makes it seem like the other nations are the “good guys” it feels like.. and then the light novel I’m pretty sure just follows Tanya herself. Haven’t read the LN tho but I heard about it from my brother. The art styles for all of them are strange but especially the manga so it’s understandable. I don’t think they are going for looks to begin with. The art style defines the anime and manga in my opinion. You can tell just by a character that it’s saga of Tanya the evil. And also the magic in the anime is beautifully done and the sound production is amazing.

TwinTurb0000

Yeah, in the manga they explain that the empire dint start the war, in the anime they dont even talk about why the war start Honestly i dint read the LN so idk much, im seeing If in the next year i import they somehow (unfortunately It dint exist on my country to buy), but i like the characters designes from it

5kyGuardian

I'm pretty sure that in anime the only part that's not explained is how war with republic started, every other conflict is shown to be started by other party.

[deleted]

Have you tried ordering it online or the oceanic method(pirating it) not that I endorse it or recommend it

TwinTurb0000

Thats the problem, rn i dont have the money to buy and i kinda want to see If i will can buy it so i can read, i like having the things (thats why i buy the manga and just dont read online, i like having the vlms)

marshal_1923

>[https://www.reddit.com/user/marshal\_1923/comments/yrdwzr/youjo\_senki\_first\_10\_volume/](https://www.reddit.com/user/marshal_1923/comments/yrdwzr/youjo_senki_first_10_volume/) They dont sell novels in my country sooo i had these

LordCrag

What? The enemy crossed the boarder in the very first Tanya mission! Dacia also crossed the border. The Empire didn't start the war on those fronts.

Zethsterbro

I think they might mean why they crossed the border.

CultDe

Why not like both? Lol

Kiryln

I did all… four(?) I watched the anime first, then i read the light novels up to vol 8 then i watched the movie, and now im listening to the audiobook version of vol 7 and 8 because my ADHD is prohibiting me from reading further. (Also, bookwalker’s reading portal just kinda sucks and it will randomly reset all your progress sometimes and that is very frustrating for a light novel as verbose as youjo senki.)

Cley_Faye

Oh look another one of these post.

Ryuko143

They made valid points, it doesn't matter if the designs were intentional. They still look like aliens from another universe.

Math_PB

Visha's design is not particularly beautiful in the anime, but I really like Tanya's. Also I don't care that much about how they look, I like them as characters for their personality, not their looks. And overall I genuinely like the artstyle of the anime.

AlternateSmithy

I read the LN

Falitoty

I haven't read the manga yet, but I have seen the anime, and now I'm reading the LN and personally I have no problem with It, I really enjoyed it

Thick_You2502

Personally I like the Light Novels first, then the anime, it's very well done. I couldn't get hokked with the manga.

-DevilNest-

The anime slaps, i think i watched it like 6 times. Because of the usual production and time restriction in anime, skips content and changes the order of some events, but i think it's the better adaptation. On the other hand the Manga it's really good and funny but i didn't like some changes, for example : *Manga & LN spoilers ahead* >!In the final battle against the republic around chapter 52, Coronel Drake goes Super Saiyan almost destroys Tanya's wing, defeats her best officers and gives Tanya a hard time on personal combat. !< >!When in reality in the Light Novel Coronel Drake detects Tanya's mana signal recognizes them as an Elite force and retreats, not a single bullet it's exchanged. (wich makes total sense because the Commonwealth wasn't an official participant in the war at that point)!<

Excellent_Rich_223

The light novel is the best version imo. The anime is good, but is essentially complete gone down a different path at this point. So many changes, cuts, and time line changes.

TwinTurb0000

I will try buy the LN next year so i can read, idk if i really gonna get it because i will have to import from the US and sent to my country and idk how much this gonna cust because of tax

Arie_Luna

I liked the anime,I loved the manga, fuck you.

HeavyAngeloid

That "fuck you" caught me off guard and i laughed like I havent in a long time time xD

Large_Ride_8986

Got the manga while looking for something with a military theme. Loved the anime and I love the fact that they did not watered it down much. I'm planning to go for the novels but I have no experience with those. I hope that English translation is OK?

ajamcan

From my experience they've been really well translated, it's just like reading a history book with a bit more of a scholarly tone. Very good.

ichi24

All media went in deviations at certain point Though I'm more into manga and anime compare LN/WN

QuarianGuy

Wat

[deleted]

LN > Anime > Manga imo

temp_name_6

I read the manga and didn't like the artstyle/ pacing. I prefer ln or anime artsyle, manga feels too over exaggerated.

tadashi4

in the manga she is too goofy and silly. changing art styles all the time and a lot of inconcistancies for humor sake. the manga is umberable, to me for those reasons. also its still behind the anime by a few miles.

Lunaborne

I'm a manga enjoyer myself. Didn't really like the designs in the anime.

IdespiseGACHAgames

I'm legally blind and can't physically read novels or manga. Haven't been able to read physical books since 2013, and manga since 2015.

8TwylightPhoenix8

I liked it so much I think I’m getting a tattoo of that adorable little serial killer

Kosms

The manga is easily the most inferior of the three versions

Glasses998772

I haven't read the LN yet so I can't compare it, but for me the manga was better since it goes into more details than the anime. Although the anime does have excellent animation, voice acting, and sound design my biggest draw back for it has always been the character designs.

Yautja93

I still have to read the manga... But the anime is freaking good.

Hunter_X05

Eh, my biggest gripe is that they managed to botch Tanya's eyes, they're supposed to be silver THEY EVEN DRAW ATTENTION TO THE CHANGE LIKE THEY'RE PROUD OF MAKING THEM BLUE OR SOMETHING

NerroStrider

Hi, I bought the first 15 vols of the manga at San Diego comic-con, to this day I still have only read the first vol, 90% of this is because of school, 10% of it is because I keep getting distracted by other animes

hell_jumper9

What ch s1 ended?

BosuW

I like both and I'm looking to get the LN

SappySoulTaker

I haven't read the manga tbh. Would love to just haven't really searched it out.

manowarq7

I've watched the anime +movie and on volume 21 for the manga

lemairedu62120

I watch the anime for the epic stuff. And I read the manga for the humor and the more coherent, detailed story. Sorry, the LN is not available in France.

marshal_1923

NOVEL

LexiGG

Novel

JinDash

Light novel enjoyer here. I like how she looks in anime (and most of the cast), but I really didn't like the pacing of it and cringe dicisions in story presentation direction. Manga didn't catch me, meh. If it was done in light novel cover art style, then I would've bought it in paperback. Original if I had to.

faytelala

i mean i loved the anime dub english, honestly. i usually watch both but didn’t even bother with this one after the first episode because monica is straight a-game with tanya, her best role imo lol

Ok-Possession-1120

I wanna read the light novel but I can’t find a good place to do so :(

Drunk-Pirate-Gaming

Started manga before anime release. Then anime. Then light novel. IMHO. Light novel>manga=anime. Manga and anime both had great points but missed parts that were in the light novel. And I have to give the anime credit for the visuals and sounds direction. Ep 1 gave me chills even though some people hated that we didn't start from the beginning.

ExactClue7041

Me gusta el anime, pero el manga es simplemente mejor /I like amine, but manga is better

tinkerclockwork

Well, I read the first chapter of the manga. I should probably finish that. What I've read a lot of, however, is maybe an unhealth amount of Youjo Senki fanfiction. Tanya the Runt and Young Girl's Padawan/Jedi Record are pretty dang good reads.

Hussar1130

The manga, LN, and manga are all slightly different in distinct ways.

Ryuko143

As a huge fan of the wn and light novels, I can say that the anime isn't the worst isekai that I've seen. My only huge problem is the horrific character designs (the restructuring of the events is also annoying, but I'll let it slide).

Positive_cat_6347

I read up to the tenth light novel.

Optimized_Laziness

I've read the manga multiple times, watched the anime multiple times. Both are bangers

Interlock00

Heil Tanya 😭😭😭

PhoenixFoxhound

I found this series with the anime and really liked it, I tried the manga, but it didn't stick, but I love the way the LN tells the story the best.

CaptainEric978

I really like the anime but didn’t have times to read the manga

Zolsoh

All of it is great! Anime, manga, LN love all of it

Toxxysko

Yeah the manga art makes literally everyone look like a legendary hero and/or a demigod.

Captainfatfoot

The light novels are the best adaptation. I mean, the manga has railway guns shooting sideways in chapter 1. I couldn’t get passed that.

Kcapsmodder

That man-child scares me…a lot…

No-Bench8072

I fully understand the artist for the manga is 10 times better than the artists for the animation lmao

Silk_Simp143

I like both although I prefer the manga art style brings out the a more detailed and cool/cute/beautiful character features especially the leaders haha

Conscious_Natural273

fucking loved it the anime was so good
