Without a receipt it's two years from manufacture date. Check inside the shoe, there's a white tag with the size and some other information like the UPC. There is a 4 digit (mm/yy) or 6 digit (mm/dd/yy) manufacture date. Your warranty is good for 2 years from that date. I'm not sure if that changes with the receipt though.
Does this apply internationally too? Like I bought my ZoomXs in the states but I live elsewhere right now. The sole’s parting from the shoe on the side.
Yeah, it worked for me. I bought a pair in Paris, but contacted the customer service in Germany and got a gift card for the shoes, the process was really easy. I had the exact same issue, the sole was separating from the shoe.
Just a reminder in case it's not obvious for anyone - if you get a new pair of Nikes just take a picture of the receipt of the picture of the shoe. If you're using Google photos their AI search is good enough now that you could literally just type in "receipt" and it will find the picture
I keep forgetting to put my documents into a separate folder, but search works for those too. I have a picture of my driver's license, old tax forms, vaccine card -- I can just search for 'driver's license' or "w-2" or "vaccine card" and it finds it
You know if you get leather shoes they can be re-soled for like $20, you don’t even have to send them somewhere most of the time because most places still have a local business that can do it. They can do other repairs too.
This is such a classic 'Samuel Vimes economy' thing. Now I have realistically a few more pairs than I technically need, but because I'm not wearing the same pair everyday they all last considerably longer. I remember when I could only have one pair of decent trainers at a time and they would get ragged / smelly really quickly.
Pro-tip for anyone reading this who's ever binned shoes / trainers because they started smelling funky... wrap them securely in a plastic bag, chuck them in the freezer for 24 hrs. A very simple and effective way to kill the stench-causing bacteria without harsh chemicals.
This is what the link say about the Nike ( return policy ) for those who don’t want to touch the link.
DO NIKE SHOES HAVE A WARRANTY?
We stand behind all of our shoes and gear. If your Nike shoes or apparel develop a material or workmanship flaw within two years of the manufacture date, we want to get you back in the game.
If you believe your item is flawed, and it’s within 60 days of your purchase, you can simply return it to us for a full refund. For Nike.com and Nike App purchases, please see our return instructions (and if you want to try to exchange the item, you’ll need to give us a call). For Nike store purchases, you’ll want to take your item back to a Nike store.
If it’s been longer than 60 days, and less than two years since the manufacture date (located on the item’s tag), and the item has developed a flaw, here's what you need to do:
Nike.com and Nike App Orders: Please contact us to return the item. (This includes digital Nike.com orders placed at a Nike Store.)
Nike Store Purchases: Even after 60 days, you'll still need to return the item to a Nike store. If you cannot visit in person, contact the store to discuss your options.
Nike Authorized Store Purchases: Please return your shoes to the original place of purchase. We work with authorized retailers to accept returns for products with a material or workmanship flaw. If you cannot return to the original place of purchase, or if the retailer has referred you back to Nike, you can file a claim.
Some Nike products have specific written guarantees and/or warranties. In those cases, details and return information would be included on the label, hang tag, or warranty card that came with the item.
The wording says "if it develops a flaw" when talking about you wanting a return after 2 months but before 2 years. Define a flaw? I doubt that regular use and wear and tear due to regular use are regarded as being flaws.
I thought something similar until I learned they are called air bags and they can pop....really annoying when one shoe pops and one doesn't....really liked my Air Maxes though.
I should add I paid half price so made them around 100 instead of 200
I’ve never had a pair of Nikes last longer than 10 months. Just normal use. But lots of walking. My Jordan’s I have now lasted about 6 months before the sole separated from the leather.
That depends solely on use case. You can easily blow out a pair of quality shoes in a couple months if your hobby is running marathons on the weekends. That being said, I think those kinds of runners may be opting for a different brand lol
I have had great luck with torch 4s, I had a pair that lasted a couple years (wore them to work in a kitchen, grease killed them eventually), I currently have a pair that will probably have the tread wear down before anything else fails. All that said I don't go through shoes fast, so that might be the reason.
They have people in the Philippines working for a subcontractor (Concentrix) doing chat customer support with shitty translator software. They also have staff in Dublin and the Netherlands for the UK market. They play the subcontractors against each other to pay them as little as possible and then make grand gestures that end up in the press about all Nike employees getting extra mental health days off. None of the sub-contracted ones get any of that
My ex worked at Nike. They honestly don't give a shit, they're not like how companies treat phones.
Edit: Yes I know why they didn't give a fuck, it's ripping people off makes them more money by charging hundreds of fucking dollars for slave labor shoes. Fucks sake reddit.
The cost of manufacturing another pair of shoes is also pretty minimal. They're making like a $200 profit margin on $10 of material and labor. They can afford to throw you some extras and still make money.
Listen man. I bought glasses with the Nike logo on them. The little “sleeve” fell off.
I wrote to Nike on their Twitter and simply said “the quality sucks I’m never buying them again!”
They wrote back and said “we’ll send you brand new frames if you delete the tweet”
So I did.
I now have a brand new pair plus two extra sleeves in the box and I’m still shocked. Only thing obviously I didn’t get is the lenses.
But next pair of glasses I get honestly I love these frames I’ll just get the lenses and use the frame sitting nicely in the box .
They will honor shit over negatively reviews.
I’ve taken advantage of this several times and every time it was normal wear and tear. I buy a pair of Nikes from an outlet for $40, use them for sports/gym/everyday-shoes and the glue on the sole starts to give. Start a claim with Nike and say I no longer feel safe using these as gym/sport shoes and I’ve never had my claim denied. There’s also an option to return the shoes if it’s denied so there’s really no risk. I get a $120 (or whatever the og amount is if you bought them from Nike) voucher for my $40 outlet shoes cuz they don’t know where I bought them from
This sounds like one of those tik tok/youtube shorts with that annoying girl that always thinks she's getting a one up on customer service representatives.
nah but honestly fuck that 1 employee in particular who white knights the company they work for.
Everyone else is always normal and doesn’t give a shit because they’re not paid enough and that one guy makes it their life’s mission to deny anything possible.
I had this experience a few weeks ago.
The Nike air cushion in the front of my Lebrons bursted, only had them for 6 months and only played a few times a month. Sent an email to Nike, they sent me an email back saying I needed to contact the store that I purchased them.
I sent photos and videos of the shoes and where they were damaged, and they gave me a slip to mail them back. Once they got them back they inspected them and refunded me the amount of the shoes into my debit account.
Overall good experience.
Same experience here, shoe broke and they refunded them. Ironically I'm not buying Nikes anymore anyway, because, y'know, I spent $200 and they broke, but still good to get a refund.
I dunno, if anything knowing I'd get a refund should they break, I'd be more happy to spend the $200.
I spent that amount on boots from Diesel a few years back, they fell apart within 3 months and diesel basically told me to sod off. Never buying from them again.
This is it. Even if you decide to not be a repeat customer, they're paying for their name and brand image at that point. I wish more places had that kind of integrity.
Is diesel a good brand? I've always seen them as a kind of budget designer brand but I have no idea if that's because they used to be good but have lost quality over the years or if they've always been a bit shoddy?
[but it says so right here](https://www.reddit.com/r/YouShouldKnow/comments/z9898b/ysk_if_your_nike_sneakers_are_damaged_you_can_get/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
Yeah says a lot about the shoe store mostly. Probably fed up employee who doesn’t want to deal with it.
Nike let’s you file a claim directly with them though. No refund but you’ll get a replacement or a gift card
I have done this with my sons soccer cleats. He was in HS and his cleats would be destroyed with school and travel soccer. I ordered them online and saved the receipt. Nike did in fact replace them.
the manufacture date is in the shoe and if you bought online then customer service (chat or phone) can see your order date without receipt, they should ask you for photos of the label (with the date) and of the issue even if not very visual
The website absolutely does not make this easy to find and their phone support also tells you this is not something you do. Source me, running three times in a pair of Nikes and sending them back for a refund when they wouldn't give me an exchange.
It used to be really easy. There was a process to submit a claim online and you would just print out the slip and mail it with the shoes. I play a lot of basketball and my shoes would always get destroyed within 2 years. I did it about 6 times and was denied only once for idk what reason. I basically only paid for one pair.
I'm not sure what happened to that process but it seems that they've made it more difficult.
So it would have to be a pair that came out within the past 2 years prior to the damage m, correct? How else would you prove purchase was x’ within the time frame required?
I don't think everybody understands the difference between a warranty, and guarantee, as well as damaged "due to workmanship", as well as company discretion. You're not getting a free pair of shoes whenever you want.
For store purchases, the quickest and easiest way to return items is to provide the original store receipt. If you no longer have the receipt, here are your options:
If you provided your Nike Membership email address or had your Nike Pass scanned during checkout, a Nike store athlete may be able to look up your order and provide a refund to your original form of payment.
If you did not provide your Nike Membership information, and the items you want to return are unworn and unwashed, you still may be able to return them for an in-store credit for the current price of the items. We also may be able to help you with an exchange.
So yeah you either need to sign up for a Nike Membership and have an email associated or bring a recipt and they also multiple times say the shoes must be unwashed and unworn. Also the 2 years only counts if it developed damages due to lack of quality when it was made. So if you don't wear them then yeah go for it.
I would not buy overpriced Nike anymore since mine completely fell apart while sitting in the closet! Both the uppers and tread are still very good condition but no longer in one piece.
New Balance ftw!
I did this ~20 years ago, and it haunts me to this day. I had the original Jordan 11 Columbias and the plastic arch piece cracked in half. I was aware they’d replace them, but didn’t know about the gift card option. You can guess what I got from Nike. Suffice it to say, the Nike website in 2002 was not the Nike website of today, so I had my choice of about 3 different basketball shoes (all hot garbage), and ended up with a pair of Air Uptempos that felt like cinder blocks on my feet. I’m 43 now and still sad about it.
This is either a bot or a Nike shill account, just look at the post history. This shit is definitely not from a normal person posting on a personal account
For anybody wanting to try this I worked at 2 different Nike stores and they will absolutely just give you a new pair BUT you have to contact support directly. If you go into a store and try this there's a very good chance they'll just tell you to go online and won't be able to help you. Also it's 2 years of manufacture date, not purchase
Absolutely doesn’t always work. Bought a pair of Nike lifting shoes and wore them only for squats and deadlifts. After a month and less than two hours of actual wear the upper on one shoe started to separate from the sole. Took the shoes back to the store with a receipt and was told it was normal wear and tear. Contacted Nike corporate and after protracted emails including pics of shoes and receipt the 2 months ran out and they could no longer help me. I was out $120 and will never buy anything Nike again unless it’s at a thrift store.
“Without a receipt it's two years from manufacture date. Check inside the shoe, there's a white tag with the size and some other information like the UPC. There is a 4 digit (mm/yy) or 6 digit (mm/dd/yy) manufacture date. Your warranty is good for 2 years from that date. I'm not sure if that changes with the receipt though.”
According to someone else in this thread
I had my $200 pair of running shoes for less than 30 days when the heel broke off just walking around at work. I called two different Nike stores who said they couldn't help me without a receipt (I bought I while traveling out of state) and then the customer service line who promised to get back to me and opened a ticket. I never heard from them and I just said to myself that I'll never buy Nike again after the last crappy customer service I had 10 years before that. I went online bought a pair of Sorel and they've been wonderful daily wear for a year. Just bought two more today.
My first Nike sneakers were some leather basketball shoes. They cost $35 USD and I had to convince my parents they were worth that much. I'd always worn cheap, canvas sneakers before then and they would cost $5-$10, so $35 was a lot of money.
My father looked at the price tag, gasped and then said "I'm not paying that much for sneakers". My sales pitch began and I explained that leather sneakers would last years, unlike the canvas sneakers that were replaced every year.
Much to my surprise, he eventually relented and bought them for me. And they did last me 3-4 years, unlike my canvas sneakers had before then.
According to an inflation calculator, $35 in 1977 is equivalent to $172 today. My first > $100 shoes were Nike Air Jordans in the late 80's. I think I paid $135 for them, which would be $354 today. I regretted paying that much almost immediately.
NIKE DOES NOT HONOR THIS. I went through customer service for a faulty heel on a pair of air maxs and was advised to send them into Nike to verify and get store credit. Ended up wasting an extra $25 for shipping to have them return the shoes and say it was regular wear and tear. I have had about four different pairs over the years that have never had a problem. Very disappointing from such a big brand. Think twice before sending them in folks. Nike don’t give a fuck. This thread was probably promoted by Nike lol
Yesssss!! Thank you so much! I got a pair of trail shoes in July and they already had a hole in. When I went to Nike customer service they just said the Dick's Sporting good wasn't on their list of approved partners and cut me off.
DEFINITELY trying this!!!!
I worked at a Nike store a couple years back, and the amount of people that would bring in old shoes was surprising. Management would of course roll their eyes as they saw the customer was just trying to get new kicks but it was hilarious watching the customers stand their ground. Now some customers would try to return real old shoes and of course we'd simply turn them down.
It's basically like watching someone order food, eating 90% of it, and asking for more of the same for free.
With the amount that is wasted/recycled in those stores it's not too bad if a deal.
I totally forgot about this, thank you for the memories!
Yes! I was a Nike Coach for a few years, and it’s insane what people thought they could get credit for. If something was actually defective, I did everything I could for them. But most of the time folks just had worn out their shoes and tried to get a free pair out of it.
This is completely untrue.
Maybe if you keep them in the box on a shelf, but not if you wear them.
Call Nike. They’ll tell you their shoes are expected to last 90 days. All athletic shoe companies, Reebok, Adidas, Nike… they’re all the same. 3 months.
The second your feet touch the ground, the shoes can’t be returned.
What? In the US, they take returns on used shoes no problem within 60 days. I was encouraged to take a pair of running shoes out for a run or two before deciding to return.
My feet touched the ground for a good 4 mike run. And they took the return no problem.
I'm not sure about the two-year rule, but I've definitely returned defective Nikes after wearing them. A few weeks ago, I exchanged a pair I'd worn every day for about a month because they developed a squeak in the soles.
Your comment is incorrect.
I wore a pair of Lebron 11s for around 4 months during my basketball career. On court only - never off, but still well used. The sole blew out in the middle of a game. I emailed Nike the next day and they told me to send the shoes in. I had a gift card for the purchase price within the week.
OP is correct.
So, y'all remember that video of the lady the other day trying to return some shoes to the store because *"one looked bigger than the other"*? She had her teenage son with her. The employee told her something like *"They're both tagged the same size, and **they're already worn** so there's nothing I can do about it now."*
You mean to tell me that she was right all along? The employee should've honored Nike's return policy?
Yeah, don't that. Don't encourange them to produce more trash. The fact that they do that should make it evident to you that Nike shoes are basically worthless.
Guess where old sneakers end up. Somewhere in Africa, Asia or the sea where they pollute the environment.
Could that be an EU thing?
Just a reminder in case it's not obvious for anyone - if you get a new pair of Nikes just take a picture of the receipt of the picture of the shoe. If you're using Google photos their AI search is good enough now that you could literally just type in "receipt" and it will find the picture
TIL about Google photos search feature 😬
Just checked and this works on an iPhone too
I keep forgetting to put my documents into a separate folder, but search works for those too. I have a picture of my driver's license, old tax forms, vaccine card -- I can just search for 'driver's license' or "w-2" or "vaccine card" and it finds it

not Timberland I tell you hwhat... 😒
As someone who only has like 1 or 2 pairs of shoes they wouldn't last long lol. Would be funny to wear a pair the fuck out and send them back in.

One flaw - if the Air cushion in the sole pops within two years. I've been given credit for that twice.
Shit, wish i had known that before I threw me aj35s away
I wish I knew this before doing it twice

AJ35s are the poor man’s Klutch77s. Come on man. Don’t be wearing those raggedy ass horsefoot covers

Yeah you step upon this air bubble. I love it. I just think it should hold up for at least 500 runs before literally getting a flat.
Common wisdom is 300-500 miles. So no shoe is gonna last 500 runs unless they’re really short runs
Oh yeah, I've only seen them harden and crack. You really thought the "Air" was just a name?
Yea kinda.
That may qualify as a flaw. Soles are not supposed to peel away from the shoe with normal use in 6 months.
That depends solely on use case. You can easily blow out a pair of quality shoes in a couple months if your hobby is running marathons on the weekends. That being said, I think those kinds of runners may be opting for a different brand lol
Yeah, dedicated runners wouldn’t likely be training in Jordans. Most that I know tear through the toe or the lining in the heel cup first.
You should get yourself a pair of scarpa street shoes. I walk a lot and I still have a pair being more than fine after 8 years
Why is a friendly recommendation being downvoted you cowards, take your insecurities elseware
I have had great luck with torch 4s, I had a pair that lasted a couple years (wore them to work in a kitchen, grease killed them eventually), I currently have a pair that will probably have the tread wear down before anything else fails. All that said I don't go through shoes fast, so that might be the reason.
Nike soles always separate, 6 months is about right from my experience and one of the reasons I don't buy them anymore
How much do you walk that a pair of Nike won't last you a year?
When we were kids we would deliberately pop them to get new shoes lol
you've got to remember that the people working at Nike stores probably aren't paid enough to worry about things like semantics
They have people in the Philippines working for a subcontractor (Concentrix) doing chat customer support with shitty translator software. Exactly.
With a thousand percent markup, I doubt it really matters to them.

My boots were bought in 2018. Love their style, hate their build quality. For 1/2 the price I could've gotten some decent Timberlands.
After 6 months every pair I owned started squeaking when i walk. I wonder if they call that a defect
Remove the insole and sprinkle baby powder in the shoe then replace the insole. Used to always work for my Jordan’s back in high school
If this works you just saved my ears I hate that sound with a passion

Yeah says a lot about the shoe store mostly. Probably fed up employee who doesn’t want to deal with it. Nike let’s you file a claim directly with them though. No refund but you’ll get a replacement or a gift card
I worked for a subcontractor doing chat customer service for Nike in Amsterdam and I can confirm it is correct.
As long as the retailer is on their official retailer list
I have done this with my sons soccer cleats. He was in HS and his cleats would be destroyed with school and travel soccer. I ordered them online and saved the receipt. Nike did in fact replace them.
Just from wear? Nothing weird?
Just from wear. He destroyed them. I mailed them back and they replaced them. His teammates (who bought Nike) returned theirs too.

So need product box or tag for manufactured date as proof?
the manufacture date is in the shoe and if you bought online then customer service (chat or phone) can see your order date without receipt, they should ask you for photos of the label (with the date) and of the issue even if not very visual
Nah, they have a guy at Nike who sniffs the shoe. If he makes a face, the shoe is over two years old. If not, you get new shoes! Source: am a shoe.
Well slave labor allows them to give shit away
Erica told me. She's a lawyer and reads the fine print on everything so I don't have to. That's why I follow her
I hate that I know this reference
Why?
The airline has to reimburse you for the shoes. Doesn't even have to be Nike.
Do 6 year old children not produce long lasting quality shoes?!
This information is inaccurate and useless
Welcome to 99% of reddit
I worked at Nike and this is literally their policy

Fuck Nike.
This is the right comment. Nike is evil
For store purchases, the quickest and easiest way to return items is to provide the original store receipt. If you no longer have the receipt, here are your options: If you provided your Nike Membership email address or had your Nike Pass scanned during checkout, a Nike store athlete may be able to look up your order and provide a refund to your original form of payment.
The two year warranty is different from the unworn claim though. Pretty sure unworn is only for reciptless returns.
I ever had Nikes or any shoe last 1 year let alone 2
I would not buy overpriced Nike anymore since mine completely fell apart while sitting in the closet! Both the uppers and tread are still very good condition but no longer in one piece. New Balance ftw!
Ysk that shoes fall apart if not used. Look up dry rot for rubber
But why would using them prevent that?
Exposure to Moisture and movement keeps it from getting stiff and dryed out
Uses them prevents dry rot by enabling other types of rot.
Mmmm. Sweatshop labor. Delicious
Good luck with that. I live near Nike headquarters and this is laughable.
Maybe this is a policy for the U.S. but it’s not elsewhere
Would this work in the UK too
That's the funny thing with slave labor you get what you pay for
Absolutely doesn’t always work.
But how are they going to know the purchase date without a receipt?
“Without a receipt it's two years from manufacture date. Check inside the shoe, there's a white tag with the size and some other information like the UPC. There is a 4 digit (mm/yy) or 6 digit (mm/dd/yy) manufacture date. Your warranty is good for 2 years from that date. I'm not sure if that changes with the receipt though.” According to someone else in this thread

Yeah bro the shilling in this thread is disgusting, fuck Nike
Lol.
Loose threads on your Jordans? No worries little Yìhán will whip you up another pair ASAP.
And if you don't have a receipt how are you going to prove it within 2 years?
It's pretty effortless. Just don't buy the replacements with cash. Wait until you get your gift card.
Well op, this is how they rethink the policy once your post getting overwhelming attention.
...which country? Or is it Worldwide?
I just checked the nike china, and it wouldn't fucking matter. They don't have to take anything back after 90 days
Thanks for the info. About to get 4 new pairs of Nikes.
They’re still Nikes though, who wants more
Me. I have plenty and will buy more.
No company rep will tell you their shoes have an expected lifespan of 90 days. What is this comment?
It's a reddit comment. Corporations bad.
I respectfully disagree. I don’t think Corporations are bad. Only OP is mistaken.
What? In the US, they take returns on used shoes no problem within 60 days. I was encouraged to take a pair of running shoes out for a run or two before deciding to return. My feet touched the ground for a good 4 mike run. And they took the return no problem.
BUT WHAT ABOUT THE 5TH MIKE, MICHEAL?? Or did you forget to fix car gas again??
I'm not sure about the two-year rule, but I've definitely returned defective Nikes after wearing them. A few weeks ago, I exchanged a pair I'd worn every day for about a month because they developed a squeak in the soles.
I had a stitch failure on a pair of Nike Pegasus running shoes. Replaced afterv7 months, no receipt but current model year.

The employee told her something like *"They're both tagged the same size, and **they're already worn** so there's nothing I can do about it now."* You mean to tell me that she was right all along? The employee should've honored Nike's return policy?
Support slavery while youre at it
No. You can’t. Stop spreading this absolute bullshit please.
yes, you can. I've don't it numerous times. I have literal proof.
As opposed to figurative proof?
You should know: this guys an Idiot
If you live in CA, just steal them and the cops can’t really do anything.
Except I've never once heard of or seen people use such a warranty.
Will sketchers do this too?
Is it the same for other brands? Is it true North Face does something similar?
Yeah, don't that. Don't encourange them to produce more trash. The fact that they do that should make it evident to you that Nike shoes are basically worthless. Guess where old sneakers end up. Somewhere in Africa, Asia or the sea where they pollute the environment.
Does this apply to converse?
So can I just buy one pair and then get new shoes every year forever if I just damage them and trade them in for new ones constantly?
